This video makes you see what was really happening inside the tool and gave the idea of what to do. Just as a reference because it is not said in the video, to take that external cover out, you have to unscrew 3 things; 2 close to the power cord, and one hidden under a circle the dremel decal. After that step, and checking up the carbons, you have to check the black plastic box electric switch and then LUBRICATE the plastic hole that is moved under by the external switch. That was helpful and my dremel worked back again. Thank you michaeljp86
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm pretty confident this will fix my Multi-Max. I'm really glad I decided to check RUclips for a fix before tossing my Multi-Max. The reason I feel confident about this fix is because after watching the video and how simple the fix is, I tried squeezing the handle of the Multi-Max about the same area where the tower-to-switch connection is, with the external power switch turned on, and it starts to run. Yeah! Thanks in advance MichaelJP86.
My two year old quit. Did exactly what you did except used 5 small strips of duck tape and layered them over the post. Re-assembled and it works just fine. Thanks for making the video.
My 6300 went into a coma a couple of days ago. Your video helped resuscitate it. I just used a dab of hot glue to increase pressure on the switch. Seems to work fine now. THANKS.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, I went to move my tools the other day and noticed that my Dremel case was half full of water. I still haven't figured that out yet. After drying out my tool... I tried it and it didn't work. Thought for sure I was looking at dropping another $100 plus. It turned out that I had the same problem as you and that it was the switch. Put a little electrical tape on the tip and we're back in business. I have no clue what the unit getting wet had to do with my problem but it working fine now. Thanks again.
Dude, spot on!! That was it--good eye on that tiny switch. I fixed it with two layers of duct tape on top of the switch. The entire tool becomes inoperative due to a tiny plastic tooth 1/4 size of a grain of rice?? Really Dreml??!! I sent them an email to this affect. Again, thanks so much.
Thank You so much! I was about to trash my dremel for this exact problem in place of a Bosch! Your fix worked great!! Now I can hold off and keep using my Dremel!
Perfect. Used a spot of 5 minute epoxy mixed with cornstarch as a putty on the retaining post, waited until it was stiff , and put the motor housing cover on with switch in the on position. Verified it worked and put switch in off position to allow final hardening. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. You pinpointed the problem that will affect them all eventually as that tiny piece of plastic in the switch wears down. After repair it will eventually wear down further and then the switch will need to be replaced. I used a drop from my glue gun on the "pillar".
Thanks for a simple solution! I just dismantled my MultiMax. It seems that the switch is a very common problem. Follow-up: After testing the switch as you showed, I determined that the speed control appears to be my problem.
That's it buddy. Thanks for posting this video. I pulled my switch, cleaned the whole inside with electric parts cleaner and it's good. Maybe using a bit of glue to hold the switch in place will help?
Thank You! Had to fix my switch also. It seems mine had just loosened up from where it was suppose to be, causing it to turn on amd off randomly. Your Video Helped. Thanks Again!!!! 👍
Nice job Mine just quit on me today. Same exact symptom. I shut it off and that was it. Won't turn on again. Looks like an easy fix. I'll open mine up tomorrow. Did it look possible to shim the switch up instead of gluing that piece on the pedestal? How long did your fix last? For the amount I've used mine over the last several years it really should not have failed. Shame on you Dremel.
Found my switch is bad. Switch was clicking but still not passing current. Jumping the wires confirmed this. I got my switch working again by blasting some electronics cleaner into the switch plunger area. Cycled it numerous times and it is now working again. I don't expect it to last though. I will try to source a new switch.
I attempted to fix before watching this video wish I did. Started with a frayed cord showing the copper wiring but still worked. Liquid taped the wires and electric taped it up didn’t work. Took it apart missed the bottom screw under sticker and tried prying it until. Cut the cord hoping to splice it back, but now I’m getting nothing. Tried overriding the switch with direct power so may be I burnt it out? Any help on troubleshooting the electric fail would be appreciated but starting to think I just need to buy a new one.... thanks
Not the case with mine. What a let down. mine also about two years old. Don't think I will trust dremel any more. Third dremel product bought, used properly and they still ended up as junk. Very disappointed.
OdinsCloud a simple switch needs such a complicated design? i wouldnt think so. but on the plus side i still use this tool today and never had any more trouble.

Merci beaucoup! Mon Dremel 6300 vient d'être sauvé. Réparation très simple et qui évite un autre "serpuarien".

Thanks for the repair info on the switch! I opened up the dremel and didn’t know where to start.
Shimmed up the switch and bingo! Works great!
This is exactly the tool and problem I have. Thank you so much for posting this video.

Excellent! I was ready to scrap my dremel, but fixed easily thanks to your video.

Well, that sorted me out! Thanks man! Very informative, and you just saved me from going out to buy another. The fix works great!!! Cheers!

Thanks for the fix. I would like to make a suggestion that it is easier to glue something to the switch because it is a flatter surface.
Thank you! You saved my tool also. One of the 2 "connectors" to either side of the rotating axle was also loose and not making the right connection.
I had the exact same problem,
I followed your instructions and it
Worked
Thought my multi-max was dead. Watched this video and saved it. Thanks
Same issue but not completely dead yet. Hope this fix takes care of my dremel switch as well. Thanks for the Video!

Thanks for the tip. Just fixed the switch on my dremel Multi Max.
Thank You!
Had to fix my switch also.

Your Video Helped.
Thanks Again!!!! 👍
Mine has the same problem. Going to fix it thanks to you.
Thanks! This video help me fixing my tool.
it worked for me. thank you.
Just fix mine thanks alot man
Fix worked for me, thank you!

Hi Michael, Nice video.
Learn how to use Volt.Ohm meter. Will save you a LOT of time troubleshooting electrical stuff.
Thanks. You just saved my tool.
Mine still turns on but does not fully oscillate as it did when new. It just vibrates. The tools are not effective with just a vibration.
mine was acting up and i never really use it that much...i use my cordless one mostly ...gonna try this fix

thank you i repaired mind the same way
thanks a lot. fixed mine.
We miss half of the video because the camera wasn't showing the tool when he fixed it
mine shuts off while using then it will eventually start again.Thought it was the brushes?Maybe getting hot? Will have to check the switch out.
About how hot should a Dremel oscillating tool get? Mine gets pretty warm and i was just wondering if it was normal.
Mine always gets hot also
Mine won't oscillate . Any ideas? Can't seem to find any information .
I never made it past your second commercial. Hope you enjoyed your ad revenue.
I dont make any ad revenue
Unfortunately the switch itself is no longer available. Please tell me if I am wrong.
Search KW11-3Z Should be able to get it for well under $1/each.
How the heck did you get it apart? Two screws and then after a half hour or so of trying to pry it off, I smashed the s*** out of it with a hammer :)
Rallou Clark there was a screw under the sticker
Mine stopped oscillating. It still turns on but only vibrates. Tools are ineffective with just a vibration.
1Fly Guy Hi there. Did you ever find a fix for your Dremel Multi-Max?
Mine just did that too and I'm on the job and I need the damn thing! Just vibrates pissing me off! Looks like nobody answered
How long will the fix last tho?
It still works 5 years later
Not the case with mine. What a let down. mine also about two years old. Don't think I will trust dremel any more. Third dremel product bought, used properly and they still ended up as junk. Very disappointed.
This is by leaps and bounds THE very worst, most unreliable, worthless tool I have ever owned.
Dremel sucks!! How long have they known this switch design has a very high failure rate? What have they done? NOTHING! Same switch in 2018.
OdinsCloud a simple switch needs such a complicated design? i wouldnt think so. but on the plus side i still use this tool today and never had any more trouble.
That did not fix my dremel.
Connect the wires end of problem put your own toggle switch on the cord
