The Scottish recipe using a grill for toasted cheese is: take a slice of bread, spread chilli sauce or Branson pickle or sliced pickled onions, grate or slice your choice of cheese and place under the grill until it bubbles. The base being soft adds to the speed at which you can eat it. Repeat until sated.

Being a Wisconsinite, I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest using "Brick Cheese". It originated in Wisconsin in 1877. The best brand is Widmer's from Theresa, Wisconsin - family owned since 1922. Try it and you'll be surprised how good it is.
Yummy!! I grew up in California, and they have really good cheese there as well. The slogan "It's the cheese" from Real California cheese. They showed the cheese commercials all the time, haha. Personally I just love cheese, and don't care where it comes from. And I always buy brick cheese and slice it myself. Well sometimes if I am feeling lazy I will buy shredded or pre-sliced, haha. My grocery store has a amazing cheese stand with all kinds of cheeses, I will look for some Wisconsin cheese. The Widmer brand. If not, I will just buy it on amazon. :)
@@inthekitchenwithmatt "Real California Cheese"????? Remember that Wisconsin IS the Dairy State" LOL (just some friendly rivalry on my part). Widmer's is sold throughout California - Bristol Farms, Whole Foods, New leaf, Lazy Acres to name a few. Joe carries on Widmer’s traditional Brick production-to the tune of 360,000 pounds a year. He still uses the same open vats in the 12,000 square-foot facility that his grandfather bought in 1922. And he still uses the same well-worn bricks that his grandfather used to press the whey from the cheese in the forms. In fact, he’s credited as being the ONLY cheesemaker in the country to continue to use real bricks as part of the make procedure.
@@AFmedic That's awesome, yeah I will have to see if they have it at Wholefoods where I live. I was just at my supermarket earlier today Frys (Kroger). And although their cheese spread is expansive, no Wisconsin cheese. That is cool about Joe!
Brioche has a slightly sweet taste for grilled cheese. White bread is better for it because it doesn’t have a slightly sweet taste. I also heard that air fryer grilled cheese sandwiches are crispier & crunchier than if you were to pan fry them or use your griddle. For me I like the pan fried version better.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt You can make them & serve them to your family & friends & they will kindly appreciate your work for doing it for them & will tell you that they enjoyed your grilled cheese sandwich that you just made them.
My tower is only toasting one side of my toast. I make them open with cheese and tomato and spring onion. Delicious but I’d like both sides toasted. Scots cheddar yummy
When I hear 'Grilled Cheese Sandwich' I hear 'Cheese on Toast', which I love and eat often. Buttering bread on the wrong side is difficult for me cos it makes the 'Grilled' part nearer to 'Fried' (which I also like now and then). I am having a cultural problem with this but I may give it a try. Maybe.
hahaha yeah definitely will differ depending on where in the world you live. :) But try it like this sometime and see if you like it. The butter on the outside creates and awesome flavor for the bread. This is how we always do it in the States regardless if we use an air fryer or just in a skillet or grill pan on the stovetop. Of course some people use Mayo instead of butter.
@@letz-b-reel810 Honestly, I had never tried it until a few years ago when someone mentioned it on my other Grilled Cheese video. I did try it, definitely still like butter better. I am a butter addict. haha. But Mayo does work pretty well and I can see why people like using it.
hmm what air fryer do you have? I never have that problem and I have used 3 different air fryers. If your air fryer has a fan setting, trying turning the fan down.
It depends on your air fryer. The kind I have is simple, it is just an air fryer. It has a setting for Temperature and a setting for time and that is it. If you have a combo, then there should be an "air fryer" setting. As well as a time and temp setting.

Worth I think pointing out that real Cheddar comes from the village of Cheddar in Somerset England. OK it has become known as a process to make cheese and much copied around the world. But real Cheddar is something else and takes your tastebuds to a whole new level. The village is famous for its many caves in the Cheddar Gauge. The caves provide the perfect environment to mature the real Cheddar.
Yes, authentic Cheddar cheese is so yummy. I will sometimes buy imported cheddar, it is more expensive, but so worth it. One of my favorites is Aged Irish Cheddar, so yummy.
@@johnwilletts3984 If they have it where I buy cheese, then I will get it. The first slice that goes down on the actual air fryer is butter side down, you want the buttered side actually touching the air fryer. The top slice is butter side up.
Yes, same as if you were doing it in a skillet. So the bottom slice of bread is butter side down touching the air fryer basket. Then the cheese then the top slice is butter side up.

Hi Wendy, I have a Secura air fryer. This is the exact one I have: amzn.to/3t3j9oB
This saves fuel especially with the crisis imagine how long a cast iron pan takes to heat up 😮
Being a Wisconsinite, I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest using "Brick Cheese".
Why do you prefer butter over mayonnaise?
Because I like the taste of better more than mayo
Brioche has a slightly sweet taste for grilled cheese. White bread is better for it because it doesn’t have a slightly sweet taste. I also heard that air fryer grilled cheese sandwiches are crispier & crunchier than if you were to pan fry them or use your griddle. For me I like the pan fried version better.
Yes the air fryer version is crispier than pan-fried
@@inthekitchenwithmatt You can make them & serve them to your family & friends & they will kindly appreciate your work for doing it for them & will tell you that they enjoyed your grilled cheese sandwich that you just made them.
mmmm looks good!
Thank you!!
Really late 2 the party but, thanks 4 sharing😋
Never too late! You are welcome :)
My tower is only toasting one side of my toast. I make them open with cheese and tomato and spring onion. Delicious but I’d like both sides toasted. Scots cheddar yummy
Ah you turn yours
Yes turn it.
Looks delicious. What kind of Tillamook cheese did you use??
Thanks! Standard Tillamook mild cheddar, my favorite. :)
Very nice!!
Thank you!
nicely done!!
Thank you!
@@inthekitchenwithmattI’m so confused about people using mayo on a grilled cheese sandwich 🤷🏼♀️
I’m an Aussie & use butter (lots of butter) 😋
@@letz-b-reel810 Honestly, I had never tried it until a few years ago when someone mentioned it on my other Grilled Cheese video. I did try it, definitely still like butter better. I am a butter addict. haha. But Mayo does work pretty well and I can see why people like using it.
I gave up. When my sandwich is in the air fryer, it flies all over the place. Not sure how your sandwich stays in tact in the air fryer.
hmm what air fryer do you have? I never have that problem and I have used 3 different air fryers. If your air fryer has a fan setting, trying turning the fan down.
Mine flies around too, lol! It opens and cheese gets all over the drawer. I have the Ninja Foodie Dual Drawer.
@@tracyweber3683 Try using a lower fan setting if you have one.
For a good breakfast option, add bacon and halloumi filling. Works well in a panini.
Yes!
Anyone ??? I’m new air fryer & I saw those paper inserts online - shouldn’t be using those ? Is it okay to use them or no ??
You can if you want, but it depends on what you are making. If you are making this I wouldn't use them, you want the air to go underneath.
When I tried to make cheese toast in air fryer my cheese kept wantn to fly off & my bread was all over the place. Wat did I do wrong ??
That can happen depending on the model of air fryer. If you have a fan speed adjustment, try turning it down.
I'm never sure what power or setting to use
It depends on your air fryer. The kind I have is simple, it is just an air fryer. It has a setting for Temperature and a setting for time and that is it. If you have a combo, then there should be an "air fryer" setting. As well as a time and temp setting.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt ok then setting on mine would be air fry seems nothing turns out for me.
@@jeanluby4636 It sounds like you just need a bit more practice using it. Try this exact recipe, it is a very simple air fryer recipe.
"20 years in the can, I wanted manicotti. I compromised. I ate grilled cheese off the air fryer instead".
haha. Can never go wrong with a grilled cheese! lol
try crunchy peanut butter with the cheese
Interesting
Grilled cheese sandwich is my favorite with tomato soup, what do you eat your grilled cheese sandwich with?
Yeah grilled cheese sandwiches are amazing. I like to eat them with tomato soup as well, or sometimes, I dip them in a little ranch dressing.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Matt I would have to try the ranch dressing with the grilled cheese sandwich and I pray your mom will have a happy blessed mother's day
@@daisyking5656 Thank you! Yours too. :)
Do you like air fryer grilled cheese better or do you like making grilled cheese on the griddle better?
I like them both, I don't really like one over the other any better.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Do you have a griddle?
@@maxduong4537 I have several different styles of griddles but not a large electric griddle because I live by myself, and I just don't make that much stuff regularly to need one. I use my George Forman or griddle pan or standard skillet. I have used them many many times, just don't own one at the moment.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt I’ve seen several French Toast videos of yours & I always do French Toast & grilled cheese on my griddle.
Mmmm hmmm, yummy yum
Thank you!!
Did you know that I was subscribed to you before I realized Jared was your brother? 🙈 one day I was like, “mom you have to see this RUclipsr he reminds me so much of Jared Taylor!” 😂 love your vids, keep it up!
hahahaha really??? That is so awesome!! How do you know my brother Jared?
@@inthekitchenwithmatt he’s our “uncle Jared” my dad and him go way back. Maybe you know him, Carl Dobbins. They were scout leaders together. Oh you definitely know him they run the Grand Canyon together lol
@@lindseyredding9198 Ahh!! Yes I know Carl! :)
Kerrygold Irish cheese and Irish butter.
I love Kerrygold brand cheese and butter so good!
Air fryer, George F, Breville, oven grille, fire…. Evolution of the cheese toastie is Darwinian
haha
mmmmmm~~~ with tomatoes😁 & pickles..
Sure!!
I need quick cooker like that tho
Air fryers are pretty handy
This is nice with some HP sauce on
Yes!
Mayo inside, butter outside add bacon and tomatoes. Enjoy ☺️.
That would definitely taste good!
waw best chef
Thanks!
Why didn’t you preheat?
no need with that air fryer. You don't always need to preheat anyways, but if you do the food doesn't have to be in the air fryer as long, but only by a few minutes.
Irish Cheddar? Why not try Cheddar from Cheddar?
@@johnwilletts3984 If they have it where I buy cheese, then I will get it. I may have tried it before, a few times a year for special occasions we have a huge charcuterie board featuring all kinds of different cheeses. My brother is the one that puts it together, so I can't remember all the different kinds he puts. But he does do a few different kinds of cheddar cheese.
Everyone forgets a splash of Lea & Perrins, Worcestershire sauce to you guys in the US yummy
We don't forget it, we just don't use it on grilled cheese. :) And we have the Lea an Perrins brand here as well.
Butter side down? You had butter side up towards you.
The first slice that goes down on the actual air fryer is butter side down, you want the buttered side actually touching the air fryer. The top slice is butter side up.
Butter side down????
Yes, same as if you were doing it in a skillet. So the bottom slice of bread is butter side down touching the air fryer basket. Then the cheese then the top slice is butter side up.
i have a dream where I make grilled cheese sandwich inside an air fryer.
haha
Yummmy
Thank you!
