  • My friend lent me these Apple accessories to unbox and quite frankly, you shouldn't buy them. Take a look at why I feel so strongly and why I think you should consider Logitech's MX lineup instead.

I recently bought the Apple Magic Keyboard and Trackpad. I love them. I’m not a gamer however but when I left a mouse behind years ago for a Trackpad, I’ve never looked back!

The black mouse is to match the black/silver option they now offer for the Magic Keyboard.

TLDR - It's a sleek looking keyboard but the MacBook keyboard removed from the MacBook falls short. Thanks for the video!
So the reason the mouse has the braided lightning cable is because it's the current Magic Mouse. Your loaner Magic Keyboard is the old model (per-Touch ID). The newer Magic Keyboards with Touch ID also include a braided lightning cable. I've never used the Magic Mouse, but I did purchase the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID (non-numeric keypad version) to use with my Mac Mini. I thought it would be like typing on my MacBook's keyboard. While the Magic Keyboard has the same look and feel as the MacBook keyboard, it is a completely different experience. I'm not sure the reason, but it just doesn't feel to use the Magic Keyboard on a desk vs virtually the same keyboard integrated into a laptop. The only redeeming quality of my Magic Keyboard is the Touch ID, but I'm using my Apple Watch more and more to unlock my Mac Mini these days, so Touch ID is less important.

Good review, despite the snark. I feel better about buying a Keychron instead of the Magic Keyboard for my new Mac mini.
As a Mac user you ought to know how prevalent the eject function is in macOS. I'm surprised you "called this out". If I recall correctly, there's actually a video on Keychron's web site demonstrating how to bind the eject function to a key.

I was almost going to pull the trigger and get the magic mouse, but…. It is so thin it really looks like it is uncomfortable to hold. I would say that I am sitting on the sofa the majority of the time when using my iPad. So using a hard to hold mouse wont work that well when you are moving it around on the wide arm of the sofa or your leg. A cheap optical USB mouse works great for me, I just want to lose the cord. I do like the trackpad idea so overall that might work the best. Great video. You have a new subscriber. 😁

Hi Cameron. Im a gamer and I love to play games with my Magic Keybord and the Mouse. Im so happy they added the arrows to this product, since no other keyboard has it (at least I didn't see any info on a official website of other keyboard brands) .
So nice that the keyboard is so light because I always carry it with me in my pocket, definitely love it. The mouse is also amazing,. You know these days black paint is so expensive, that's why they charge you additional 20$ for the color. For the next model they should remove the buttons, just to sell the plastic piece so we could buy it for 79usd and use it for upside down charging and ability to purchase an extra buttons and the sensor if you need them. Definitely my recommendation, but sometimes I don't recommend it

Not sure about the arrow keys but I do know that using WASD can be very inconvenient when using some keyboard layouts such as AZERTY keyboards. Especially when the game doesn’t allow you to rebind the keys.

I couldn't believe that Apple actually wrote those things in the description of the magic keybord, so I had to check their website.... Well they did....:D
I had the opportunity to test the magic keyboard today at the office actually, even though I am a windows user. Your review is on spot once again. +1 for the mx keys, it is a totally different level. I actually find the typing experience even of the mk470 better than that of the magic keyboard.

@@CameronDoughertyTech checking the specs of that keyboard, there isn't actually much that they can emphasize on. But sometimes saying nothing is simply the better option. It does a good job at making people laugh though.

In my early teen years I did use the arrow keys. I would play the likes of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on it. Doing Zangief's spinning pile driver on it was wild. I don't even know how I managed since I'm right handed, and traditionally movement is handled with the left hand and action buttons with the right hand. None of it makes sense!

Have you had the chance to use the Logitech Craft? Looking to buy one but hesitant due to price.

Haven’t used the Craft but check out my video on the Mx Keys. They’re very similar, the Keys just excludes the wheel that the Craft has, otherwise I believe they’re basically identical.

I have tried the Craft and it's exactly as Cameron says, exactly the same typing experience except you don't have the dial at the top which you can use for some creative apps. But honestly, considering you can customize the keyboard using the Logi Options application, it doesn't even matter since you can program buttons on the MX Keys to do the same thing.

I have the smaller Magic Keyboard without keypad. I love it, it is a great keyboard for an iPad. It fits nicely in a backpack and still has plenty of room to type. The full size however I don't see the point, it is not great. As for the magic mouse, this is such a disappointment. I love the idea of gestures on the mouse, however this could have been done much better. To me it feels like Apple is refusing to admit that they are wrong and pretending like consumers opinions don't matter.

When you were talking about the black Magic Mouse to match the MX keyboard, I looked down and that’s exactly what I’ve done 😂😂 It’s a good setup though, best of both worlds - with macOS I definitely think you need some sort of gesture input, but I’m not paying £200 for a keyboard without a backlight, end of story 😅
