  • Replacing a WATER Shut Off Valve Under Sink. Changing a shut off valve has never be so easy. I swapped a old single valve for a 1/4 turn style dual stop to give the dishwasher it's own shut off valve. Tools & material below. Subscribe here : / @thatfixitguy

    DUDE! That was so helpful - thank you so much! I'm going to have to replace my hot shut off valve after almost 25 years of service, corrosion and who knows what else. I LOVE your solution. One thing I didn't see in your tool list was the old compression puller but I'm sure I can find one at HomeDepot. Thanks again.

    Can you leave the old ferrule to replace the shut off valve? I've seen many videos and they include ferrule in replacing the shut off valve.

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад

      I know plumbers that leave them on. You may need to cut some of the pipe off in front of the ferrule, because not all valves have the same depth. If the valve has a shorter depth you will never get a good seal.

    What I'm trying to find is an angle stop similar to this for a pipe coming up from the floor, and can't seem to find anything. If I try using a product like this, either the knobs or one of the water the outlets will be facing and hitting the back of the wall. Not sure what else to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

    You replaced the hot water shutoff; did you need to empty the water heater, or was shutting off the whole water service enough?

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад

      You can just shut the valve at the water heater and that will work. You do not need to drain the tank. If that valve does not hold then shut the house main supply off. Hope this helps.

  • @jriggs64
    @jriggs64 3 года назад +1

    Is the orientation of the valve important? I had a single valve shutoff for the sink and dishwasher and it wasn't fully shutting off the dishwasher completely. I reinstalled the dual shut off valve in your video, but oriented it perpendicular to the floor where the shut off knobs are on top and bottom. Now the dishwasher has water, and the sink does not have water. I oriented it this way because the dishwasher pipe (soft copper) was lined up to make the connection from the previous valve. Can I bend the copper to come up from the bottom without damaging the pipe?

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад

      The orientation of the valve is not important. I install the both vertical and horizontal. A dishwasher anglestop sometimes may be better of facing down or to the side than in the traditional straight up position.
      You can bend the soft copper more as long as you do not kink it. If there is enough pipe to make the bend that is great, but if it starts losing shape and egging I would stop and do something different. You don’t want a kinked piece of pipe. Hope this helps.

    What do you do when you change it out and the water pressure is low?

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад

      I would try blowing it out. Take the supply line and run it into a bucket full blast, see if the helps. Do you know what kind of water pipe you have?

  • @trscsaeg
    @trscsaeg 3 года назад +1

    Do you have to turn the water heater off and run hot water until it's all out of the tank

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад

      You will not have to run all the water out of the tank. Just turn the hot water off. You will have some water in the lines that you need to drain out, but that is it.

    an 'end wrench' the correct size to snug up the flexible line nuts beats an adjustable jaws wrench...

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад

      I’ve considered that. I find a little adjustable jaw to be so handy though. Thanks for watching.

    Isnt there way more stuff you have to do besides turning off the water main in order to change a HOT WATER angle stop? What about the water in the water heater and supply lines?

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад +1

      Sometimes if the water heater valve is hard to shut off, I won't mess with it. Just shut the main off. Don't' open any other fixture and as long as every fixture is off you will get minimal water out of the pipe you are working on. You can see by the yogurt container I used to catch water, it was not a lot. I like positive shut off. Thank you for the questions.

      Thanks for response. I checked and my water heater outlet doesn’t even have a shut uff valve on top. Only for the inlet.

    Angle stop valves suck in arizona they seize when there never used and then when you get the nob to work the whole valve leaks

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  2 года назад +1

      Yeah that is the deal with a lot of multi turn stops. Valves needed exercised.
