The air horns are supplied with a mesh screen that provides some protection against the ingress of visible debris. In addition there are filter screens available which snap on to the air horns. They incorporate a nylon mesh which will filter out most dust and sand particles. You can view photos of these filters on the website at BorlaInduction dotcom.
The ultimate filtration is provided by an air box which can only be fitted where there is room (certainly not in a Cobra!).

Not only 20 hp, the big deal is that it allow you to get electronic fuel injection which means you have room to tune and upgrade to get way more hp.

Fuel injection is very nice, but I still love the carburetor, because it is much easier to tune than the EFI systems.

Good improvement in HP figures but a 427 with under 400hp with the carby is disappointing.

Can you please tell me where you installed the manifold air temperature sensor? Also the idle air control valve.
    Thanks

I know you have the Vacuum chamber on most intakes so did Tom tune this on Speed density with a MAP sensor or TPS based Alpha-N ? did those internal filters lose much power ?

With it mimicking the old hilborn style mechanical fuel inj it adds a talking point. And a instant throttle response and a more reliable advancement from the carb, however there is nothing I say again nothing that competes with a good solid Holley 4bbl carb. The sound the note the brutal-ness of a Holley. Call me old school but a good Holley properly tuned can dish out a wider band of performance without the chance of messing with a ECM like so many do and screw up the engine!

I put a Borla exhaust system on my '95 Toyota Corolla and it made a BIG difference. I got more than my money's worth out of it.
    BUT...
The cost vs. ROI on this upgrade (Carb to EFI), makes me say "I'll pass".
This will cost a mint ($4000+ approx.) and it only gained 21 RWHP? That's about $191 per Horse! That's ridiculous. I can do the same thing with the HollyMax EFI system for less than half and it comes with Heads, Intake, Fuel system, sensors, controller and SUPPORT for LIFE!
    Care to Comment?

So how is the intake air filtered?

And for the cost think about this! For 4k you can get a Paxton novi 2000 and get more. Or you can ebay a twin turbo setup that will give you 175-300 hp and it's still reliable and look online or on the tube at tq curves with twin turbos it's flatter and beefier and broader. The Paxton will give you a min of 80-200 depending on engine mods. A turbo setup can give a stock engine double it's power without mods. Spend your money on a system that is historically backed up! EFI is still a hit or miss

@BrutalFord >I have worked on the only two EFI systems, one since 1978 at the dealer. Electrical issues with certain cars create voltage drop on the ground side which will cause any system headaches. But, other that fuel sold with excellent filter systems, I can see your frustrations but they are not "Hit & Miss" unless you are way outside programming for street racing or tracks. Now it becomes and issue of "Garbage In - Garbage out".
In other words, your engine runs as well as the PCM /ECM programmer is. Running "Speed Density" brings a host of issues with it. Using a traditional MAF sensor are providing false readings due to highly marketed air filters that unfortunately are soaked with too much oil.
There are many variables for which type of engine you are running, but with repeat customer base at a dealership, I have several dozens who are over 300,000 miles and never had an intake leak, head gasket failure or excessive oil consumption issues with identifying the problem, repairing the root cause and correcting it using best practices and common sense.
Yes, Speed cost money, how fast can you afford to go. But EFI is here to stay, unless you are driving a 1981 Galaxy then you are one your own. Start saving nickels, quarters and dimes. I am not nor ever have been an employee of Borla, but they not owned by a big company with 80+ in their portfolio and certainly do not build vehicles. They offer high quality parts and systems that are well researched and built in the USA. As for myself, I have worked on just about every engine/vehicle combination allowed into North America as I worked in a city with a larger military population and they are bringing cars for maintenance & repair that I can't pronounce. But, glad to see carburetors for bye, bye and 99.6% are Fuel Injected either mechanical, CIS or EFI since 1977.

so how much did it cost to increase by only 20RWHP?

Badass! But a lot of $$ for not a lot of power. More for looks

Borla is a nice company but at a much steeper price then historic Holley, edlebrock,
Weiand or offenhauser. Paxton centrifugal systems were on the first Shelby mustangs. Turbos date back in autos to the studabaker and earlier models outside of the US. So history and time has made a system of choices, and options. Borla is a higher end company but the name hasn't been proven, to me at least!
