Calais Campbell should be a Priority as an Addition this Summer. He’d be great for Leadership purposes & someone for these DTs to look up to for guidance. Even at his age that man can still move some furniture around & make some noise 💥 That’d be a Great Signing in my opinion

The Cowboys need to accomplish two basic football 101 objectives, stop the run on defense and establish the run on offense. We all hope that the new coaching staff and players will make last year's weakness into this year's strength. Great insight, Foots.

I don't get the thinking a rookie is suppose to a be 5 year vet in his rookie season in the pros especially at dt. You get what you get, 2-3 you will get some production, 3-4 there's a leveling and more steady production, again this going against guards and center of more experience including all-pro caliber players...

@@555calex yep!!! 1000% correct. Its not fair to make the comparison to the Chiefs. Jones and their other DT make soooo many plays for those backers to be clean. They are just soo much better talent wise. Its hard to "bring the punch to them" when "they" are just bigger and stronger and can move you 5 yrds down field. Many coaches and coordinators are better than they are because of personnel.

Zim has so many skins on his wall. The conferences he has coached in and teams he is familiar with in the NFC East, NFC North, NFC South, AFC North. As well as any coaches he fought against for so many years that could still be in these conferences or those who have moved to other conferences and teams. He comes with good baggage that can hopefully help this team on D and O!

What has driven me NUTS the last few seasons especially is that this Defense was great at applying pressure and taking the ball away. But those things masked the basics. Have a good, solid defensive line AND be able to stop the run. I know offenses pass more today. But running the football is still a fundamental aspect of the game. Devalue RBs all you want. But when you have a team like Dallas who can get pressure and has great secondary play, you MUST run the ball well. Us not being able to run the ball effectively caused some drives to stall. Not being able to stop the run kept the other team's offense on the field. These are BASIC things that EVERY NFL coach should know and address properly. To me, it seems like they're not even watching their own film. How can they NOT see these issues and if they did, why didn't they fix them?

Also lets not forget just how bad this defence was before Quinn came in. Soooo many fans are blasting Quinn but he has had them in the top 5 for what 3 years in a row, at least two of the last three. Its also hard to match personnel, when guys are injured.

His college tape showed he was a step slow off the snap. Zimmer scheme and good coaching can fix that. His leverage was good strength really good but a step slow off the snap. Mazi with his weight on, shoulder healthy and some good coaching will be perfect for Zimmer scheme. That first step quickness with everything he has to offer will be just fine.

It was more of a 1 and a half gap scheme in Michigan's defence. Both McDonald and Minter have said this in coaching clinics. but, almost the same thing but, not really lol
I dont disagree agree with your breakdown, which is one of the better ones I've seen here on TY.
I think the two reps with Hankins and Mazi are just losses and they are getting beat. Yes I agree that they have to "sit and sink" to take on that double.
The rep when San Fran is in the redzone Quinn matches personell. It looks like San Fran in 11 so Quinn matches. In my opinion Parson who is taking on that pull has to lay a "bang" and initiate contact rather than letting it come to him. It makes that hole much smaller.
You right it looks like Trent gets away with a hold and so does 65. He pretty much bear hugs LVE. LVE lays the shoulder but gets wrapped by 65. Remember too that San Fran has a pretty good running game ans a couple of BIG bodies up front.
To compare Dallas fronts personnel to KC is just not fair. Chris Jones is probably the best if not one of the best defensive players in the NFL and absolutely is at the DT spot. Their other DT is very underrated. Not a fair comparison.

If has not improved his reaction time of snapp of the ball , he is huge mistake. Foots, reaction time more important than speed to have success in N.F.L. as a DT. Incredible that scouts did not see how slow he was off the snapp of the center. That's why Center and OG got up on him so quickly and diminished his strenght. When the pads go on it will be easy to see if he has improved. If he continues to be slow of the ball forget about it. Get rid of whom ever suggested Nazzi was a 1st round Talent. Because film should have shown how slow he is if ball snap. Just a big body that should have being a 5/6 round choice. FROM A PE.TEACHER AND TRACK AND FIELD COACH.

Dan Quiins entire defense was small ball with mostly safeties as LB. That works great when you get an early lead and can just rush the passer but you get run over against physical teams that you fall behind early to. That's what we saw most of last year, the cowboys looked awesome when the got early leads and rushed the passer, looked terrible when they could not get early leads against physical teams. Its was feast or famine week by week.

There are a whole lot of other coaches out there that can win the SB and the cowboys have hired a few of them like Bill Parcells and Mike McCarthy. Whether you want to admit it or not, LUCK plays a role in winning SB's. You have to get lucky in the draft, get lucky in FA, you have to get lucky with chemistry, get lucky with your health , ect.
