I think a lot of us watch you for comfort, and I believe that if you ever wanted to wander off and create more non-book content along with some book content, most of us would be pretty happy with it. Just in case you found yourself running out of book content ideas, I think your non-book content would be just as well consumed.
Keep smiling and stay safe :)

One hundred percent with you on the whole "consuming as many stories as possible" thing -- I can only hold so many stories _truly_ close to my heart, and being able to do so is what I find the most fulfilling about reading. That goes double for fictional stories, because in the best case scenario with a fictional story, I connect to and cherish the characters the way I connect to and cherish friends, and I'm a very introverted person who only feels the need for so many friends. The idea of not having space for more makes total sense to me.

i get this so much! i read 60 books in 2020 but sometimes i feel like i barely read anything because a lot of the books i read were in the 3 star range (not bad, but nothing special) and they won't stick with me for very long in the future. i think watching booktube and creating goodreads challenges for myself has definitely decreased my love for reading in some even if it has made me read more. for example, after immediately finishing a book i think to myself "hm, how many stars would i give this on goodreads and why?" instead of just reading it for the fun and joy of reading. while i still love watching booktube and am so thankful for the amazing books i've discovered that i maybe wouldn't otherwise, i miss the carefree nature of preteen-teenage me who would just read whenever i wanted and whatever i wanted.

Yay!!!! I love when booktubers do and read what they want! We want to watch whatever you want to create! I think most viewers would feel terrible if we knew you were upset and suffering because of booktube pressure :( we want joy and ease for you above all else. ♥️

honestly this video made me feel so much better about not reading a lot in 2020 because it sort of felt like I had so much time on my hands YET I didn't read excessively, when honestly its normal to not enjoy the things you usually enjoy when your routine isn't "normal" anymore. Thanks Hannah!

i read the least of amount of books i've read in a year in 2020 and honestly seeing you and other ppl in comment section is strangely comforting ? sometimes you just can't do things that you usually find joy in and that is okay

I can relate to what you said about pressuring yourself into reading for the sake of creating content, although I'm not a content creator I do the GR challenge every year and I always feel frustrated when I see other people reading hundreds or even thousands or books every year when I can do 30 if I'm lucky. Which leads me to hit some really awful reading-slumps way too often because I try to read more and so I have up to 7 books at any given time and if I finish two of those that's a lot. Anyway, I think you've expressed exactly how I feel most of the time about books and you're absolutely right: no one should read for others because that doesn't make any sense. So I'm taking your words to heart and I'll do my best this year to remember why I love reading so much instead of streaming over how many books I'll be able to read. Thank you so much! It's great to have you back! 💜

This video is exactly what I needed to hear so thank you so much! I’ve felt discouraged these last two years because I’ve become so overwhelmed with the sheer amount of books I feel like I have to read to be apart if this community and I have never been able to keep up because of school or just money. My only goal for 2021 is to read what I actually want and stories that I genuinely love instead of what the book community thinks I should read.
Much love and happy new year!! ❤️❤️

i! love! this! video! and i support you so so much. i've only been in the book community for like, three years, and in those years i've read more than i've ever read before with 80+ books per year - and that's with me always having been a bookworm. and this year my goal is to read 50 books, but i'm looking forward to not hitting that goal, to be honest. it really is time to move away a little bit. anyway! i"m! so happy to see you being so open about this. MUCH love!!

I had the exact same reading life as you in 2020, Hannah. I read I think 76 books in 2019 and I stopped using goodreads to track my reading in 2020 (because I felt unmotivated, pressured and that it was unnecessary). However I predict I read between six-ten books last year, several being for school. I picked up sooo many books and read the first chapter of all of them, because I felt trash that I wasn’t reading and doing something I loved, but none of them stuck. I think I’ve finally kicked this reading slump now in 2021, but you know what, I’m not going to hold it against myself that 2020 got the best of me.

I really felt what you said about reading even though I don’t have a booktube channel, but often seeing people talking about reading 100+ books a year makes me feel like i need to be reading that much? When for me i read for the experience of it and i like taking my time with reading and letting the books marinate in my head and then move on to the next one.

I think I read like 57 books this year, but I genuinely don't remember most of them. For years I have pressured myself to read at least 50 books every year and at some point I stopped reading the books I liked and just started reading what I saw everyone on booktube reading and I think that really altered my relationship with books for awhile. I suddenly did not want anything to do with reading or books and took a really long break from reading. HOWEVER I did read some great books in 2020, including Chain of Gold!! I loved it so much and consider it to be my fav Cassie Clare book of all time. It honestly is THE perfect book. I also really enjoyed reading Where the Crawdads Sing, My Dark Vanessa, Anxious People, Little Women, Get A Life Chloe Brown, and the Avatar comics. Happy to see your gorgeous face and can't wait for more content from you ❤️

oh man, it really hit me when you said you felt like you were consuming so many stories that you were running out of space. even though i was doing the hobbies i loved (reading, playing video games, etc), why was it getting harder and harder to get attached to the story and characters? i think you just gave voice to and validated what i've been feeling for a very long time (and especially in 2020) so thank you for that

Love hearing your voice its so nice and I will say I will watch what ever you put out so no pressure to do just book stuff. Also dont feel like you have to post so many times a week or month because speaking just for myself it gives me so much anxiety trying to keep up with all the booktube people posting all the time that I am trying to just keep up with wrap ups and TBRS right now and watching everything on 1.5 speed to get through them, so its nice that like you and a dash of ash have been taking a more laid back approach to uploading.

I’m so glad that you pinpointed what made you stressed out about your reading. It makes me understand you more and I hope that this year you will read just the way you want to. You go, girl!! For me you could talk about The Night Circus or Six of Crows and your other favorites over and over, and it would still make a great video. And if you don’t want to make (as many/at all) videos, it’s fine, too. I just want you to have the best time possible here. Also, I’m really happy seeing anything from you, thank you for this video 💜
