This Chromebook I suspect has a bad emulator or it needs an update from Lenovo. This unit does not run apps from play-store very well. most crash, or lockup or never load. the ones that do, do not run very well. I had a n23 yoga and it ran every app well. I could even play COD mobile. This unit got my account banned from PubG and was stated in message box that my emulator needs to be updated. I tested this by watching a 4k Aquaman movie trailer on RUclips through the browser and it played flawlessly with no freezing. I watched same trailer on HBO Max app and it just kept freezing every few seconds. I continued this test using Netflix app and got the same result. I love this unit but for the price I paid $749, should run any app from play-store with no problems and the the quality of playback should be much better. *QUESTION:* With these "2-in-1" tablet/laptop machines, does the keyboard turn off when you fold it into tablet "mode"? It seems like it'd be a bit awkward having the key tops on the back where you grip it. Or that it'd require more cleaning because of setting it down in tab mode with the keys on whatever surface.
For $850, I would expect the speakers to sound spectacular, almost on par with MacBook Air, and the cameras and microphone to be on par with high-end Smartphones. I WOULD pay over $800 for a Chromebook, but ONLY if it has *uncompromising excellent hardware package* , beyond just a minor build quality upgrade. C13 Yoga clearly doesn't have it all, and not worth its asking price.
Chromebooks aren't intended power users. I don't see the point in paying more than $300 for a better than entry level Chromebook. I have a C330I paid $55 for in used mint condition, which does all the daily things well. If you want high frame rate/resolution video editing and such, get a mid-range Windows notebook with lots of RAM, a decent multi-thread processor and A serious GPU.
I just got one of these and the touchpad has this big threshold that isn't configurable (at least via Settings). At show speeds, the cursor basically moves up/down/left/right (not diagonally) unless you move the touchpad quickly... After waiting like 3 weeks for something that ships "next business day," I'm probably going to just return it. The speakers sure are terrible. They sound like those free headphones you got with cheap cassette players when you crank up the volume and listen from a few feet away. If I got the touchpad working right, I'd be a lot happier.
Interesting to hear about this touchpad issue. I have exactly the same problem with the (Windows) ThinkPad Yoga I was given for work, and I thought there was something wrong with it. It's so laughably imprecise with small movements that it's basically unusable for me. The material it's made from is terrible as well - horrible tacky plastic. I got the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2. But I acknowledge that this C13 is an early candidate for Chromebook of the year. It's a Chromebook in a corporate ThinkPad X1 suit. It has the best keyboard of any Chromebook, too.
And the worst of it - it's using AMD Processor - Chrome OS Linux / Crostini GPU Acceleration is not working for it (and likely never will, since they don't care), so you'll be running your IDE super laggy with really simple tasks, like just typing in VSCode ...
It's really yaw-droppingly bad performance for Coding (as it is for Multimedia Consumption due to the Speakers)!
I wish someone told me before!
F*ck you Google, and somehow Lenovo too ... for releasing a Thinkpad with a Ryzen Chipset not making QA sure beforehand.
@@simons.5442 Hey, I consider buying this Chromebook with the ryzen 5 and your comment made me think. Just that I get it right: ChromeOS AND Linux are running both poorly on it? I know that ultimately Chrome OS is Linux, still I am wondering if Lenovo is bringing Out a Laptop with a CPU for an OS that is Not really Supported?
@@tobias5444 just don't.

Just bought the base model on a whim during cyber monday sale for $149, thats only the 4gb ram and 32gb storage...if it's awful at least it was cheap lol...but I'm hoping it'll work fine for my casual needs and actually be a steal!
I did too and just got it. As Robbie said, speakers are a low point but IMO still ok for voice. The only thing I really don't like is the plasticy feel of the trackpad as this version's is definitely not glass. Otherwise this is a ridiculous deal.
I just purchase 3700c model. The only problem I found was that when I use note taking app with low latency ink feature (such as squid and nebo the others are fine but very delay) the screen is super mess up. I assume that it is compatibility issue with ryzen and low latency ink. Do you have the same problem?
Did you get 4k screen, I did and I have < than 4 hour battery?
@@pdxcitizen1260 I have 1080 and battery is around 4 or 5 hour but definitely not 8 hour. Can you try writing on android Squid app. I would like to know whether people have the same problem. the screen will be super messy.
@@sarunkhunapinya7917 Ew what the heck 4 ... 5 hours is REALLY bad for a Chromebook. Now I wish I just didn't order mine ... I'll give you a heads up about the pen issue's when it arrives tough.
@@sarunkhunapinya7917 absolutely no issue on mine with squid and a pen ... that said overall performance is really beta on this even compared to an dual core celeron chromebook ~_~ ... software wise thats impressive for google in regards to getting such a shit performance out of it
@@simons.5442 Could you test this for me? In Squid app's Setting / Note editor, there is a checkbox call "Disable low-latency ink". When I check this box everthing works fine but when I uncheck this box my screen will mess up when I write.
This Chromebook also had the longest name of any Chromebook on the market
The Ryzen 5 model was just $589 for the last couple of weeks. Was sitting on it for a while debating whether to pull the trigger. It's now $609.
Are you gonna go for it? Because I was gonna pull the trigger on it too, but the Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook is almost the same while being $250-$350 dollars less.
@@domvitorocco I did but I actually dropped it off at UPS to send back to Lenovo today. I have ADP at work and there's a benefit that offers discounts on enterprise accounts, so I got it for $569 last Thursday and it arrived Saturday. Frustratingly, the price was lowered to $539 on Monday. I called to see if they'd be willing to price match and I had to jump through a bunch of hoops. The computer is nice. The build quality and weight reminds me of the original Chromebook Pixel from 2013-2014. The display was also very nice. The trackpad could be a little better but the keyboard is a proper Thinkpad keyboard. The speakers really are as bad as everyone says. I bought it to upgrade from a 2017 Pixelbook and I just don't know if it's as much of an upgrade as I was hoping. I may wait out for a C13 Gen 2 or maybe even just get an M1 Macbook Air.
now I want a thinkpad
First consideration for a Chromebook is its Camera. And sound
You can make the hardware better and better every year. But the software needs to catch up.
Now the spin 513 is out in the UK I’m looking forward to a full review. I’ve really got my eye on that one.
Great potential, but the lack of 16:10 is kind of a bummer.
Awesome review!
the privacy shade is a gimmick. a microphone hardware cut off switch would be much better (I assume it has a mic) as well as an LED that's connected to the power going to the webcam. how do I know some background app isn't recording me? privacy shade is a placebo, that makes you less secure
You shouldn't be using Chrome OS if these are your concerns... Try a flavor of Desktop Linux, instead?
Me sitting here with the duet
Thank you so much for your thorough, honest evaluations. God bless you.
Fantastic honest review well done
Really wish it had rj45. sometimes you just need it.
Where is the Asus Cx9 is it real ?
The performance issues with this AMD chip was a huge bummer and still is not fixed years later. Huge bummer purchase
Great review, thanks. argh! If my Pixelbook wasn't still going strong, I'd get this in a NY minute.
Pixelbook user here -- my PB is still going strong also but I found out that through work (ADP portal), the Ryzen 5 model is only $569. Was debating between the Pixelbook Go and this, and decided to go for it based on the great keyboard and build quality.
13 inches with 16:9 ratio, nope. New lenovo laptops will be with good 16:10 ratio.
gen 1 doesnt have fingerprint scanner!! :(
c13 64 gigs with athlon is around 300 Euro tax (19^%) included.. sounds like a good value
Ok, sold.....nice work
Still like the Acer Spin 713. Best value in my book.
As soon as I saw the Rubik's cube on the background I hit subscribe😅
It's Rubik's brand but still I get to watch reviews from another cuber
im honestly considering running linux on it and whipping chrome os! mainly for python coding!
This item will be returned as I wait for the ASUS CX5.
Tested mine last night. It’s true. Runs VERRRY poorly, despite overpowered cpu/gpu
Nice. Would prefer a lower price. But other than that.
How ms word excel snd goigle sheet and docs smoothly in offline and save to sd card folder???? Please sir.

Anyone else have the HP 14a chromebook? Just bought one on sale and im curious how everyone likes it
Yes! Aside from the screen I'm pretty happy with my unit so far.
@@sanjaylord nice, I managed to get one with 1080p and an IPS panel so its probably better then the standard.
How's the speaker quality? Couldn't find any good answers online
@@chiichenghetsis5482 Speakers sound great since they're upward firing and the quality is more than acceptable for the price. Glad you went with the 1080p configuration because the standard one has terrible screen but it was the only model available here so had to go with that.
@@sanjaylord Nice, love that they face upwards, one of the reasons I bought it, and the fact they're good qualityis amazing. Thank you!
Love the 14a
*QUESTION:*
With these "2-in-1" tablet/laptop machines, does the keyboard turn off when you fold it into tablet "mode"? It seems like it'd be a bit awkward having the key tops on the back where you grip it. Or that it'd require more cleaning because of setting it down in tab mode with the keys on whatever surface.
Yes, they go into "tablet mode", disabling the keyboard.
C13 Yoga clearly doesn't have it all, and not worth its asking price.
this video made me make up my mind , im loving this chromebook
Chromebooks aren't intended power users. I don't see the point in paying more than $300 for a better than entry level Chromebook. I have a C330I paid $55 for in used mint condition, which does all the daily things well. If you want high frame rate/resolution video editing and such, get a mid-range Windows notebook with lots of RAM, a decent multi-thread processor and A serious GPU.
I really want to get a chrome book but I don’t like the fact that I can’t fully disable incognito mode on it.
Do any of you know how ?
To expensive in my opinion im looking for the CB Spin 513
eu assitindo o video com meu lindo chromebook c13, adorei e estou gostando. sensacional 😍
I don't know if it's just a ThinkPad thing and they're trying to push you into using the trackpoint, but I can't get on with that either. I've tried touchpads on other Lenovo laptops and they're fine. With this I just have to carry a mouse with me everywhere.
@@tmb8807 I've had many ThinkPad and Lenovo machines over the years and none of their trackpads were like that- they've all been great. I got rid of that thing recently because I never used it... The battery had 0 cycles on it when I put it on eBay.

Only 2nd gen Ryzen in here, so not 7nm and far from current 4th gen. A shame.

Oh Yeah! Come to Brazil???? Tks n' Congratulations!!! Hey, Google come to Brazil the Pixelbook's, please!!! rsrsrs
Would be better to start asking others manufacturers that already have plants here to start bringing their ChromeBooks to Brazil than asking Google to bring their PixelBook.
I wouldn't spend over $500 on a chromebook. I love them but for $600 you can get a Zenbook 14 which is better than any chromebook for the same price and for $1000 you can get the M1 Macbook Air which is way better than a chromebook. Chromebook's sweet spot is $300-$500. i3/M3 with 8gb of ram, good hardware and battery life. That's what you need from a chromebook. Otherwise get one of those other two laptops.
I get what you're saying, but the ZenBook Flip 14 starts at $1,200, not $600.
In fact, it's very difficult to find a portable convertible Windows laptop for $600.
@@mini9503 the Zenbook 14 is the non convertible version, it starts at $600 with better specs and a full operating system. I'm talking laptop in general, I don't think a lot of people are buying convertibles for their form factor, I think most people use them as normal laptops.
@@brett2396 Then it's not equally comparable to the C13 Yoga. People who buy convertibles generally are looking for that specific 2-in-1 form factor that fits their usage.
Also there are multiple models of the ZenBook 14. The $600 ZenBook probably has more compromises in the hardware department than a $600 clamshell Chromebook.
@@mini9503 I don't think a lot of people are buying 2 and 1s. The $600 Zenbook 14 is on beat buys website. It has great specs, build and insane battery life. It's a very solid laptop, comparable to some $1000 windows laptops. It's definitely a better $600 laptop than a $600 chromebook
Try an Acer Chromebook Spin 713 when it goes on sale for $559. Its pretty great as far as Chromebooks go. Intel i5, 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB NVMe hard drive. A 3x2, 2256x1504 screen, back-lit keyboard and MIL grade durability. Its a steal at the full pop of $629. I have one and its a beast.
I just tried to purchase this computer on Lenovo's site... In fact I ordered one, then had to cancel it so I could add the fingerprint scanner and pen... then I cancelled that order too because the Lenovo site said it was going to be delivered in Oct 2021. Yikes. Since I'm replacing an EOL ASUS ChromeBox I cannot wait 5 months. Short story; I found the 4K Rysen 7 16GB+256GB on Amazon cheaper than the Lenovo site.
