  • Shane from Bilstein Shock Absorbers takes us through Bilstein's off-road performance series shock absorbers at their 2018 Overland Expo West booth.
    Starting with the B6 4600 series; this is an ideal gas pressure shock absorber for both on and off road use. It's built for a wide range of vehicles and the digressive valving instantly reacts to changing road surfaces.
    Next is the B8 5100 series which is designed for lifted trucks and SUVs. These perform well both on and off road, are a monotube construction, and tuned for oversized tires and different spring rates.
    An off shoot of the 5100 series is the 5100 Ride Height Adjustable designed the front of half-ton trucks and SUVs. It is a perfect alternative to coil spring spacers, using the factory coil and is direct bolt on. Most commonly used for Toyota Tacomas and 4Runners, these shocks can adjust from 0-3 inches of lift.
    Then we have the Bilstein B8 5160 series for aggressive off-road performance. It has a remote reservior which provides more control in over harsh terrain.
    Moving up to the 6100 series, we have a B8 6112; a front coilover replacement kit for late model half ton trucks. It comes with two 60 mm shocks and two springs. They're ride height adjustable, leveling or lifting your vehicle, increasing ground clearance, and installing larger tires.
    Finally the newest product is the 8100 series B8 8112 (zonecontrol CR) suspension kit for 2005-2018 Toyota Tacoma. The front shocks are coilovers with position sensitive valving and a hydraulic compression stop and rebound stop inside, with 3 separate control zones for compression, and 2 separate control zones for rebound. For the rear, this kit offers a 60 mm piston external bypass shock that is position sensitive. Expansion is in the works, and fitments for the Jeep JK and Toyota 4Runner are expected next.

    I installed the 6112’s just over a week ago, and so far I must say it’s the best mod that I’ve done to my truck.

    I put Bilsteins on my 4Runner Sport Ed, this past Summer, and the ride quality is so much better. I highly recommend them.

      @@mattg8787 I have an 06. I got all my information from a Toyota forum. I basically typed in what I wanted to do and the Toyota forums pop up almost every time. It's nice because people send messages back and forth asking questions and giving advice. That's how I found that Bilsteins were a great shock. There are so many different Bilsteins to choose from so, it depends I guess on what you want to do. I don't offroad and I could have lifted it a couple inches but I didn't have that need. Why don't you put the Bilsteins all around? A lot of people use FJ Cruiser springs when replacing them, but I don't know if they'd fit that year vehicle. I just bought Moog and I'm happy with them. How many miles are on your 4Runner. Those 3rd Gen Runners are virtually bullet proof. You see so many of them over 300,000 miles. I have 2 friends who have them and they are both around that much mileage.

      @tigergreg8 5 лет назад +2

      @@jubenehuang3971 Your best bet is to join the Toyota forum and ask people who have either one, I can only say that the 5100 is very popular, and very comfortable. It seems the ride got better over time too.

    But which is better for daily driving? Meaning more comfortable het still lowers the amount of body roll?

    • @toyotabrony
      @toyotabrony 2 года назад

      Bilstein b6 4600 are the way to go for light off-road, and nice for daily on the road. Those will give u a very smooth ride feel. And it will reduce ur body roll compare to ur current shocks.

      4600s are literally the bottom of the barrel cheapest ones they have LOL stock ride how you can run them with stock coils I'm sure they ride better than your original suspension you should upgrade to the 5100s or one of their other setups you will be extremely happy I would get aftermarket coils as well like old man emu possibly
