Ben A I can personally atest to the part about refined sugars and carbs. I've never had much of either of them in my diet and I've always had a difficult time putting on weight. Whenever I see anyone cut down on those two dietary components they suddenly seem to shed off the weight.

Jeff, you were the motivation that helped my change my life around a couple years back with your old weight loss tip videos. I lost about 40 pounds and got my life together. (I'm 16 btw.) What I'm getting at is I know you're able to do this, just work hard and don't give up. Good luck my friend, and have a happy new year!

Happy for you, homie. You got this! I'm starting my own journey as well. Had back surgery on September 30th, and have gained a lot of weight over the past couple of years. 6'3", 330 lbs. My goal is to be back at 245-250, where I was when I was powerlifting. Looking forward to seeing you progress!

I wish you the best Jeff! My wife and I have decided to change to a paleo diet this year (not necessarily for weight loss, but that will hopefully be a side effect). I know it won't be easy, but I'm very determined to make a big change this year.

You have now given me the motivation to lose weight and shed my belly fat! The point that you got through to me was when you were talking about "following through". Thanks for the motivation, and I hope to see progress on the weight loss journey!

Hey Jeff, I know everyone is throwing in their two cents, but I have an idea worth trying. Every morning, no matter what, walk for an hour. This will not make you lose tons of weight on its own, but starting off your day actively, doing something that is good for mind, body and spirit will get your day off to the right start. If you come back from an hour long walk, I guarantee you will be physically and psychologically motivated to eat better and move more. This lifestyle change worked for my dad who was also fat for a very long time. All of these popular cleanses, challenges, diets, etc. simply don't work. They demand too much too soon. Going cold turkey (as in eating super clean and exercising a ton) usually burns you out. I challenge you to try this out for a month and see how it makes you feel. How it changes your life. Seriously, what do you have to lose? Wake up tomorrow, put on your boots and jacket, and take an hour-long walk. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good it makes you feel.

I had vsg surgery November 10th 2016. Starting weight was 293, my current weight is 235. I'm on a low carb, high protein diet. My goal weight is about 170. Its very hard work but I would do it again. I used to think surgery was the easy way out, I was very judgemental. I was ignorant. Its not. At your weight, you might want to consider it. Holler at me if you have questions.

    • @tonymengela
      @tonymengela 7 лет назад +1

Carter not at all that simple, you have no grasp and your comment is evidence of it. whole lot more than the calorie bullshit. It has to do with the food itself. I eat tons of calories in coconut oil avocados, dates, dried fruits and juices. I has to do with probiotics, enzymes and toxins in your body. That is just the tip. I have reversed heart disease and diabetes so far in this three months and yes I have a ways to go but I am completely different and it had nothing to do with fucking calories

Jeff, 3 years and 2 months ago I was 420lbs. I'm also very mobility limited and have lots of very serious health problems. I'm wheelchair dependent and must depend on hooking up to a machine every other day for dialysis to sustain my life. With all this I have lost 100lbs and now weigh 320lbs. I don't exercise hardly at all, I can't. But I do watch what I eat and that's the trick for me. I have trained myself to enjoy the feeling of being hungry. I know it's weird but that's what I did and I'm still loosing weight.

  • @Bobster709

Jeff, I think what would help you most is finding other ways to deal with your stress. Everybody has it, some worse than others, and I had very bad stress and anxiety years ago. But what helped me was doing things I loved and talking to a psychologist. That may not be in the best interest for you, who knows, maybe give it a try. But once you take control of your stress, you can focus more on losing weight. Cheers to 2017 man, keep up the great work. I love your reviews.

Jeff. A couple of years ago I lost 40lbs. I felt great wanted to loose more weight. I hit a road block. Life got in the way. From time to time I would exercise. Eat crap. I still wanted to beat my goal. But I couldn't. My goal kept getting further from me. I had lost all hope in trying to loose weight. I kept telling my self its easier to nothing than it is to try and lose weight. I am ready. To loose it. We can do it together. I know what it takes. We have what it takes to lose it.

I suggest you don't look at this as a new years resolution. this will have to be a life long lifestyle change to achieve. eat a balanced diet and have several "healthy" pre made snacks for when your in those moments where you really need one. I also suggest a gym and looking into some weight training. what helped me was starting off very light weight and focusing on form.(squat!) progress in weight after you fully understand the proper movements. I went through this and found the change was extremely rewarding and worth all the work. I wish you the best of luck, long time viewer.

Good habits are learned by repetition and reinforcement. Like brushing your teeth as a kid, your parents told you to do that and kept on you until you got it done (hopefully.) But for most of us, nobody pushed us to exercise or guide us in our diets. So here we are as adults doing what comes easy because life is hard enough as is and we don't want yet another thing to worry about (we make excuses). I believe in you, Jeff. You can get this done, and you've inspired me to start exercising again too. If we learn it, we can do it.

I'm glad you are finally trying to be serious about loosing weight for your own benefits. I struggled with my weight and made excuses for it and always wanted to lose weight but never found a good way to do so, I did much research and found the paleo diet. Usually when I hear diet I don't like the word however there are many advantages to a paleo diet because you eat when you're hungry don't count calories and lose the weight very fast. I lost 32 pounds in three weeks simply just by eating, no exercise what so ever. Best move I've ever made its super simple rather cheap to do and it's actually enjoyable. It may be worth a try

A method I use to beat my love for junk foods is to limit myself to two cheat meals a week, not cheat days but two cheat meals, I usually eat them saturday night or sunday night. I do that so I won't go crazy thinking about junk food and feeding into the temptation, its like a treat for doing so well during the week. If you learn how to limit yourself properly and make sure you are dieting and exercising properly throughout the week, it will work everytime.

I can tell you what worked for me: Moderate protein, low carbs, moderate to high saturated fat. Translated: Zero added sugar (read labels), minimal bread, NO carbs for breakfast. I usually have a cheeseburger (no bread), bacon, OR some variety of eggs, or broiled fish. Having no carbs for breakfast will satiate your appetite, carbs make you hungry again in an hour.
If you have a sweet tooth like me: plain yogurt (which alone tastes like wallpaper paste), but with added Xylitol (a non-sugar natural sweetener), loaded with berries of any kind and crumpled dark chocolate (minimum 80% cocoa) and whipped cream (which is surprisingly low carb and very low sugar). The dark chocolate is an acquired taste, it IS NOT sweet, but very heart healthy.
Chicken, farm-raised beef, any kind of fish or salad rounds out the menu. I cheat one day a week, but don't over do it. My weakness is pizza and I allow myself a few slices one day a week. No booze, or VERY LITTLE.
And of course: exercise. 4 days a week in the gym: 2 cardio, 2 weights. I've taken off 25 pounds, kept it off for three years. I'm 5'10" 170 lbs.
This is not a diet, it's a lifestyle. Good luck with your efforts. You're a young man; banish your bad habits now before it's too late. I'm 70 and full of energy. Wasn't always like this.

dont let it pull you down. 2016 was a harsh, harsh year for many people. Just do what you like and have fun while doing it. I have the opposite problem of you, since years and years I fight to gain a couple of pounds, and believe me, it is hard to do, too. I guess you tried many things, from what I experienced, cutting sugar and carbohydrates in general in good. Instead of carbs you eat vegetables, steamed or cooked or baked in the oven. And be ready when the sugar cold turkey hits, it lasts around 6 weeks.

thanks man, I don't want to giove unwanted advice or anything, especially eating is a very strong habit to change and many people get really defensive about it, like politics or religion... and every body is different and needs different diets to work well. But it is a fact that carbs become fat from the process of how the body works, and cutting carbs will let the fat melt, or at least does not build up new fat. Of course, dodging carbs, especially sugar, in food is hard and leads to the need of cooking yourself pretty much always.

Jeff, I have left similar comments in the past but I really hope you see this one. Im a long time watcher, having won one of your first giveaways. I lost 100 lbs and found a way to take the guess work and stresa out of losing it after trying multiple times. The myditnesspal app and a food scale takes the guess work out of losing weight. You learn what your total daily caloric needs are and eat slightly below maintenance. Its not fast but it is steady and as clear as looking to see if you have money in the bank account. The app has fast food, sit down reataurants and regular ingredients so even if you are out you can calculate your calories.
I know not everything works for everyone but this combo was my lifesaver. I hope you have great success with your weightloss and an excellent 2017.

Your words will be motivation for me as I continue on my journey to achieve my goals. I've been told by many people that a positive mindset does wonders. That is why I will also be trying very hard this year to make a conscious effort to be positive. You don't have a weight problem. You have a stress problem. Until you figure out a way to keep your anxiety in check, or whatever else is bothering you in life, you'll never lose and keep the weight off. If the weight were the actual problem, you'd address it, then move on with your life. You can't control everything in life, but you can certainly change your outlook. What has helped me tremendously is living in the moment, not thinking too much about the future, and not worrying about things I can't control.

Hey Cutlerylover. Its not about not failing. It's all about keeping yourself accountable and taking an extra step forward for each step backward that you take. Physical activity is always going to be key. Then control your portions. Only purchase good foods to fill up your cupboards and fridge. Don't lie to yourself, get healthier options for dessert or for snacks because you're going to want them! It's a marathon not a sprint man and you have to focus on taking a step at a time and not getting it all done in one month or one year. It's about changing your mentality along with your life style! Best of luck to you in this new year and don't forget to build yourself up and keep the fire burning! We can all go much further than our breaking point but we don't realize that until we actually step past that threshold! Happy New Year! Make 2017 your bitch!

Jeff, I have been watching for about 6 years. I have seen you get bigger and smaller over and over again. You got this shit, dude. You've done it once and you can do it again.
My biggest was 257 pounds (6 foot tall) just 4 months ago. I knew stuff had to change. I am now 228 pounds. It takes a long ass time, but you just need to stick through it!
You're much older and wiser than me, but the best advice I can give is make your goal "weight loss" not "achieve some number on a scale." I don't have an end goal; I just have a goal.

i don't know if you've ever thought of it this way but you love being prepared, it's why you carry a gun and knives and why you stock up on food and ammo. If you think of it in the sense that if something happened where you had to run, climb or swim would you really want to be in that shape? I got beaten up a few years ago and it made me go into the best shape ever. i now do a lot of kickboxing type shit. I know thats what you're gun and knives are for but it isn't always an option. You are the only channel that I have subscribed too since i made my account! be strong man! respect from England

You seem to really understand your own barriers and have clear direction, giving yourself a bit of grace and counting your achievements and maybe planning for times you are stressed might help- if you have to eat fast food pre plan healthier choices, make a plan re what to do when stressed and give yourself a break- aim to walk three times a week for 30mins- build from there. Walking is excellent for your body and mind. Love your videos and I can't wait to watch your success.

Jeff, been following you since the forums. I wish you the best of luck!! I'm down myself from my heaviest 309 to 209 lbs. I had high blood pressure, and spent 2-3 months a year on crutches because of gout and arthritis. I saw a nutritionist, a trainer a weight loss specialist, and none of that shit helped! Then one day I woke up and said:
I'm gonna eat oatmeal for breakfast every day. Three weeks later I said:
I'm gonna eat vegetarian one day a week.
Three weeks later I said, Im going to eat red meat once a week. So I ate Only salmon, pork, turkey and chicken.
Then one day I stopped eating products that had more than 15 grams of sugar per serving.
And finally, I said no more dairy. No butter, no milk, no cheese. And holy hell!!! I lost nearly fifty pounds with that alone. I use the godairyfree website to find fast food without dairy. And because of my schedule, still eat fat food 4-6 times a week
I'm now off the blood pressure meds and haven't touched the crutches in almost two years.
    I don't exercise.
I saw the greatest weight loss cutting the dairy
cutting the sugar is probably 100 times harder than cutting the dairy.
My diet now looks very similar to Paleo or the SCD diet.
    -no dairy
    -limited sugar
    -refined wheat
-no nightshades, but potatoes are ok
-lots of chicken turkey and fish.
-nothing fried (but occasionally will murder some curly fries and egg rolls at jack in the box)
Doing things incrementally like this helped me figure out what was helping...
Ohh and I threw out my bathroom scale. You don't need the daily stress of... "oh man I gained a half a pound yesterday... was it water weight, that cookie, or maybe I need to take a spin class!"
I weighed myself every three weeks... and if I didn't see any weight loss, I stopped doing whatever b.s. it was that I changed.
You'll lose the weight when you're ready. And it will fall off you when it happens.
Do or do not ... there is no try.

One thing I didn't here you say is getting blood work done on a regular basis to keep a check on your hormone levels. You can have all the positive thoughts in the world but if certain hormones are not at the proper levels you will have more success pushing 50 feet of string up a hill. Hormone levels in we males go somewhat crazy when we go over 30. Also, a nutritionist (most insurance will pay for this) will be a big help to teach you what to eat to help deal with your stress so as not to sabotage your efforts to reach your goal. As far as moving, well, you're on your own and you said it you need to move so "follow through". Hope these things help you to have a successful journey.

Jeff, please research intermittent fasting, you still get to eat whatever you want everyday but you can't eat over 1,500 calories, and you can only eat between 12pm and 5pm, just please research it, I am very fat and I lost 5 pounds in 5 days and now I'm gonna keep doing it and hopefully I keep losing a pound a day, I feel fine, take multi vitamins, and try to be active.

I used to be 280, I'm currently down to 214. The thing that works for me is counting calories. I eat healthy, drink mostly water, but when I want some junkfood I have some, but I never go over my daily calory limit. I use an app called My fitness pal and it is amazing.

Everyone will have advice but I will say what works for me is weight lifting and a high protein diet. Hit the gym 3 time a week and lift then count your calories and protin. 3 easy steps. What make it easier is that it's extremely fun and you see and feel results quickly which is a big help.

Hey Jeff you should try taking a probiotic everyday. It helps with digestion. The main thing to losing weight is portion control and cutting intake of sugar. I weighed over 275 and in three months got down to 210 just by reducing portions and limiting sugar intake. It is a lifestyle change and takes dedication mam but you can do it...

Jeff i have watched your channel for years. When i started watching i was around 307 pounds at my max. I am 28 years old and am 5 foot 9 inches. My current weight is 175 and im super happy where i am at and have stayed at for 5 years. The only thing that worked for me was to have selfish reasons for wanting to loose the weight. If you are doing it to be healthy and all that jazz your will wont be as strong. I did it all with diet and a minor increase of activity level. I cut out all sugar other than in my coffee. I also curved how much id eat and after a while my body would get full of much smaller amounts. The eating at night thing is BS! I am always hungry before bed and i have not gained a single pound from it. People sit in a chair and watch tv for hours not moving an inch and still eat. There is not that much of a difference when you sleep. I would hang my fat pants on my door so id wake up and see them to remind me. Also i know it sounds weird but put a scale in your kitchen. You dont have to check every day but walking in to get a snack and you see that scale will make you feel guilty and maybe change your mind. People will say oh no thats horrible dont make yourself feel bad or guilty. Screw them. This is a fight for your health and your life. You have an amazing wife and a lot of people that look forward to having you around. Not just in your personal life but here on youtube. Remember try to come up with a selfish reason! Ill be honest mine was to get women!

incorporate exercise with running small local errands while taking pressure off joints and using largest muscle group: bicycle. Yes, they make bikes for big people. If you have to make a separate event of exercise, you will, as a working person, with a life, will too often not have time. Drink lots of water to add to feeling full and satisfying the hand/mouth movements of eating.
