@chloe 121 Well you see, the Black Panthers made natural afro-hair acceptable by the Late 60's, and then most black folks ditched their big afros in the Early 80's for perms or shorter hair when Disco was going out of style and Michael Jackson got a Jheri Curl.
MJ & The Jackson 5 singlehandedly popularized Disco and made afros iconic, and then practically put a stop to it all when he was ready to move on to a perm and Rock & Pop.
(Black celebs like the Jackson's & Eddie Murphy were a major influence to black folks at the peak of their career. White folks were also getting *reverse* perms in the 80's for that floofy Rockstar look like Rod Stewart, Tim Heintz, David Lee Roth, Flock of Seagulls, etc...)
And then Jheri Curls died off in the Early 90's to Will Smith fades, Jay Z type Caesar cuts, cornrows, stark bald head like 2pac & Michael Jordan, and flat-ironed perms for the Rachel/Clarissa Explains it All look. Same trend for the 00's, except fades were out of style by then until Drake & Kanye West introduced taper fades in 2009. When Will Smith stopped rocking a fade by 2000, so did almost everyone else.
Big afros didn't even *start* to make a comeback until LMFAO arrived, except *these* days, it's all about twistouts and people aren't using aerosol salon hairspray anymore to make their afro stiff, sheened & perfectly round like Bernie Mac, Al Jarreau, George Benson, etc...

I just want to say thank u for this video. my hair texture is 4c and I never really understood why I had to change my hair texture in twist outs in order for it to "look" nice.( look like I'm mixed race) Cough cough. I'm so happy that I ACTUALLY came across a video that embraces the texture of natural hair. I mean how it REALLY is supposed to be. I'm a 30 y-o white woman with fine, flat hair that will *not* hold curl and would probably break off if I tried to perm it. Because of this reality, I'm obsessed with watching 4C hair videos. Also I had been doing my Afro with extremely wet hair which causes all of the hair to become very compacted with no movement whatsoever. The style would last but detangling was a beast!
