Show creator: Hey so I just made this really cool show with great visuals, a great story, amazing characters, one of them is gay- Africa: I’m just gonna stop you right there.
So I was born in Nigeria, Africa. As someone who spent the first nine years of their life thinking homosexuality was wrong I can say that it is really hard to stop thinking in that mindset. In Africa, same sex dating is illegal and I just think that’s awful. Love is not about the gender. The person you love should make you happy. That’s all that matters. My parents are extremely homophobic which is really bad for me because I’m bisexual, but I really hope one day that they will think differently because I know it was just the way they were brought up. If I were brought up taught to embrace being different, it would be hard for me to stop thinking that way right? That’s the same for my parents.
Listen, the reason people are homophobic isnt because they dont understand Love. Its because its in their religious beliefs. Hetros are called "straight" for a reason.
I’m from Kenya and loud house wasn’t banned,at least till season 3. The Legend of Korra wasn’t banned. I watched all four seasons on Nickelodeon. Some of these are just rumors. Star wasn’t banned either, right now it’s airing season 3/4. Edit: Gravity falls has all 2 seasons in Kenya, I even recorded all the episodes. Adventure Time wasn’t banned either. Plus Steven universe has all the seasons in Kenya and it even aired the movie recently. That’s my opinion from someone in Kenya so if you want to argue go ahead
Someone might have already said this, but the gravity falls porn reference is probably from S2E2 when they’re exploring the bunker with the shape-shifter and Soos calls a room creepy then Mabel says “Not as creepy as Dipper’s internet history”
How many times do I have to say it? SEXUALITY IS NOT LIKE RELIGION! EXPOSING IT CONSTANTLY WON’T CONVERT CHILDREN! SEXUALITY IS NATURE! THE UNDERSTANDING OF IT IS NURTURE!
From Ghana, these cartoons weren't banned over here. The government doesn't have time. I remember watching the Loud House(my favorite Nick show at the time) and wondering why it wasn't banned though. Seems to be Kenya with this issue.
Cartoons: portray a happy, healthy, strong, lgbt+ relationship. kenya: now, we are going to spend our money banning this. Because people should give up their happiness to fit our expectation of marriage and relationships. Also kenya: huh? You say people are born gay? No, you're wrong. 14 years in prison for you.
I'm from Kenya. Still watch them on DStv. Nobody really takes the KFCB (film classification board) seriously. They're just a group of old farts led by an old fart. Homosexuality as an act is banned but you can still advocate and stuff and it's slowly gaining ground. Ezekiel, the KFCB boss, is just memed by all.
I'm honestly shocked that Gumball isn't banned in Kenya/Africa. The amount of times that show's evaded censors is crazy, especially with scenes that imply homosexuality to some extent. Like the scene with Gumball "blowing" Alan, Alan shoving an eggplant in himself, Gumball and the Hotdog Guy "hugging" in the tent, Gumball's almost romantic obsession with having Rob as an enemy...
I'm surprised they didn't strike against the 2010 The Looney Tunes Show, since there the Gophers are a gay couple. Then again I live in Poland, where a politician got ridiculed because she wrote a complaint about Tinky Winky from the Teletubies having a girl purse *to the Pope.* And for those curious, the reply to this was an equivalent of a confused shrug.

I think the Gravity Falls "porn" thing might be Mabel describing the Society of the Blind Eye as "not as creepy as Dipper's internet history." But, it's one line that could be easily edited out.
My friend moved back to Kenya after I met her in middle school. I was able to get her into Steven Universe and she loves it. I think I can say it had a positive influence on her. It sucks that good, influential content gets hit with a ban hammer.

@@queenpeppyclaws6676 I'd say increase caution in the capital, Praia due to crime. The country is quite poor but it's improving. I would have to further research the country but even when it was a dictatorship from 1975-1991, the human rights record wasn't actually too bad. Today, I think they are the best in terms of human rights in Africa (even compared to Ghana and Mauritius, who ban homosexuality, although it's not enforced) so by standards of human rights, you're safe. Theft is a problem but violent crime isn't (well, it is but on the same scale as home so you're not likely to fall victim). As for diseases, they have managed to avoid some of the diseases plaguing the continent probably because it's a group of islands. Women travellers are generally safe on the island but you can get mildly irritated by flirters who'd do the same to the native women there. Overall, the country of Cabo Verde is very safe so you'll be as safe as you are at home (or safer if you live in a fairly unstable nation).

Most of Africa is in no real state to abolish anything sadly, i mean half the governments are corrupt, inept or both. So I was born in Nigeria, Africa. As someone who spent the first nine years of their life thinking homosexuality was wrong I can say that it is really hard to stop thinking in that mindset. My parents are extremely homophobic which is really bad for me because I’m bisexual, but I really hope one day that they will think differently because I know it was just the way they were brought up.
