For a GOOD example of dark humor in SpongeBob, watch Nasty Patty. A plot literally about trying to cover up an assumed murder, but the jokes are actually funny and varied, and the characters actually act true to themselves.
I love that episode!! Best dialogue: Mr. Krabs: HIS HEADS STICKING OUT!!! SpongeBob: sorry Mr. Krabs, I thought he might need some air Mr. Krabs: they don’t need air where he’s going👹
i watched the baby clam episode when i was a child and i never thought twice about why spongebob and patrick were raising the baby clam. gay or straight never even crossed my mind, it was just a funny episode of two friends raising a baby clam. adults were the only ones with the problem.
Well its obvious enough that marks are made by society. No child would consider 2 same gender people being together not normal if they didnt know what the normal is. This brings us to the conclusion that normal and not normal don't exist
This is not true. Voice actor Tom Kenny reveals in the description of this episode in the iTunes collection, SpongeBob SquarePants: Tom Kenny's Top 20, that they actually improvised fake profanities that would be censored by the humorous sound effects later. He adds jokingly, "I was laughing so hard [recording this episode], they recorded me while I lay on the floor of the sound booth."
It amazes me how sensitive people can get over the most harmless jokes in a kids show and yet they still air House Fancy where Squidward gets his toenail ripped off
That and the infamous splinter episode and face freeze one. I still shudder like someone's walking over my grave with those episodes. But nah, cussing with dolphin censors and raising a baby clam as two consenting adults who happen to be male? Won't someone please think of the children?! 🙄😬😂😂😂
Midlife Crustacean and Salior Mouth were episodes my parents thought were hilarious. Heck they made a game from Potty Mouth. Where we made up words that weren't even curses but we would say them like in the show. Heck we still do that when we don't want to curse. How the Butt Cake are you. Also I have a video tape of that deleted scene of One Bite and I thought that was insane because I thought I learned something amazing!
If they really wanted to be ahead of its time, they could have had Patrick as the stay-at-home spouse Since spongebob is the only one out of the 2 that's actually employed
Wait now i just thought of something spongbob is still employed during this episode does mr krabs just let him have days off back then for him to do this?
@@superboy1200 it's inconsistent. One minute, he only has Sundays off, the next minute, he suffers while taking a forced vacation, the next minute he goes to Ukulele Bottom for three days for a convention
Fun fact: The car deleted scene in "Procrastination" was removed due to the Episode airing at a time when Racing Fatalities were at it's peak. And it aired at a time when Famous 7 time NASCAR Cup champion Dale Earnhardt SR. Passed away in a crash and they didn't want to connect to the scene to the death of many Racing drivers passing away in crashes at the time. So they removed the scene for Spongebob commiting Vehicular manslaughter
“Wormy” is another banned episode of Spongebob. Aired during the second season, it was banned in multiple countries due to the closeup of Wormy, which was deemed to scary for kids.
Do you know that the dolphin sound that censors out the profanity in Sailor Mouth didn't came from a dolphin? This "dolphin" sound that is used in Sailor Mouth, along with other many instances of dolphins in cartoons is actually the call of the kookaburra sped up and put into high pitch. Also, the kookaburra's call is used for jungle ambience in cartoons regardless of the geographical location. By the way, kookaburras can only be found in Australia in the wild.
I was looking for a comment about this! I knew it wasn't an actual dolphin since they actually squeak and kinda chirp, but i couldn't remember what animal they supplemented! Thanks!
The Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan films introduced fellow Non-Australians to an old and fake sounding Hollywood variant of the crazy Kookaburra call that we Australians have all known and loved to bits. But even then, such a ‘kookaburra’ calling sound was made and recorded by a guy born without legs.
I always loved how Spongebob has some dark episodes that are fine for kids and appeal to adults. I'm growing up and watching cartoons is getting harder but shows like Spongebob Glitch Techs Trollhunters Digimon the Thundercats Anime Ninjago Avatar and TMNT 2012 are shows that have dark themes and more or less mature tones. That helps me get into a show when It's more mature and has some darker themes.
Trollhunters, imo, is a masterpiece. I'm 17 and it had me hooked enough to binge the whole series! Trollhunters, 3Below, Wizards, and Rise of the Titans. It appealed to me well and I embarrassingly have been extremely hyperfixated on it since the movie released, the story just appeals to me and the humor is amazing.
Yeah people are far too easily offended and the reason why these episodes are getting banned is because of the lack of parenting it must be When I watched the raising the clam episode I had the brains to perceive it as harmless unlike other people who put it into a category straight away without considering the different possibilities. The world is messed up man and I hate it greatly as you may tell. People seriously need to wake up.
WhAt AbOuT tHe ChiLDRen!? Even as a child, I understood the lesson from Sailor Mouth and most of the suggestive lines, I didn't understand. It's hilarious how "adults" wage war on SpongeBob. I remember being told that pediatric nurses couldn't wear SpongeBob scrubs, because they were "too controversial".
I have a headcannon for why Krabs' alarm clock calls him old. I think Plankton made a "Free alarm clock" to insult Krabs as petty revenge. Krabs doesn't get rid of it because it's free.
"Mid Life Crustacean" being banned has really pissed me off. Given by the fact Nickelodeon banned it over the panty raid scene (a scene that shows kids why you shouldn't break and enter other people's houses for panty raids) goes to show they clearly think children would pull the same stupid stunt SpongeBob, Patrick and Krabs did in that episode. This ban was completely unnecessary and it's them pulling out that move just to say they don't respect children's intelligence.
Tbh as a kid, I saw the deleted scene with gasoline and a match, I thought it was honestly the scariest thing I’ve seen despite the gorilla episode. Like we see no one in the Krusty Krab, it’s dark, and suddenly a scary robot claw is seen holding a match as well as the chilling music when he realized it was gasoline.
Yeah, I saw that and it gave me the chills because of all the episodes being goofy and enjoyable, that one was more dark. I still get creeped out just thinking about it. It kind of reminds me of "Red mist" but that's my mind being weird.
Tom Kenny actually convinced Nick to let them curse for real and they can bleep over it, so it'll feel more natural when they said their lines. XD SOOOOooooo..... There is an audio file out there SOMEWHERE with the cast cursing and no dolphins bleeping it out.
Apparently, the world is so twisted. I feel like most of those strict parents/adults that criticize things like this just want an excuse to not like it, so they twist the overall meaning of something to validate their opinion that’s completely biased. Idk how someone could see this as promoting swearing, it’s literally means the exact opposite, SpongeBob and Patrick keep getting in trouble for swearing. How do they not get it
Listen I'm all for swearing I do it alot myself but if you don't think a kid is more likely to swear when they see it on TV then you're just fooling yourself you think I would havd such a potty mouth had it not been for Beavis and Butt-Head Family Guy and South Park?
I imagine SpongeBob’s Last Stand was controversial because *some* people in the US are very against anything promoting environmentalism, especially if it portrays business as the enemy.
As an environmental science major this episode missed my impression but I believe the environmental movement shown in this episode just holds truth behind the main issues regarding the connection between capitalism and the state of the environment. Yet, like this video mentioned there should’ve been a perspective of sustainable business incorporated in this episode in order to make a greater impact
Alternative title: "usa parents too sensitive to most cartoons list." Although, a few episodes like the disgusting pet episode are definitely flipping terrible
It's a good video, as always, but as a follow-up to the whole thing about "stereotyping people and them disliking it," Jacksepticeye recently did a video where he was reading reviews of his channel on a website that tells parents about content for children. Most of the negative reviews for Sean's channel (and even some of the positive ones) did nothing but bring up swearing and he was basically like 'I spent all of this time promoting focusing on your mental health, raising all of this money for charity, and trying to be a good force in the world...and all anyone remembers about me is the swearing.' I had started watching this before I saw that video from Sean, but seeing him come up as the image for "swearing in the RUclips gaming space" after seeing him talk about how that's anyone seems to know about him hits a little differently than it probably would have before.
Strider is definitely the Mr. Rogers of this generation. He’s not afraid to talk about important topics and talks about them in a very detailed, yet easy to understand manner. He doesn’t talk down to anyone and respects his audience. Plus, he’s just so naturally funny and entertaining. He was one of the very first RUclipsrs I ever came across and I’m still here to this day about 8 years later. 🧡
Tbh, I kinda thought some of the episodes were pretty much teaching kids about adult things. For example, the "sailor mouth" episode was just telling kids that cursing is bad and that they shouldn't do it otherwise they will get in trouble. I can see how it can be controversial to some parents but to me, its just teaching a very valuable lesson to kids.
Selling out imo is way better then sailor mouth because its way ahead of its time for big corporations. You sell out your work and if they don’t like it. They take it away from you and you can’t do anything about it. The funny thing is that this episode was by C.H Greenblatt. Creator of Harvey Beaks and the same thing happened to C.H Greenblatt except Carl (based of Greenblatt is the Mr.Krabs/Nickelodeon and the workers are Greenblatt and his team) and things falled apart resulting in his show being cancelled. Quite the scary harsh truth that happens to hard working show creators on big corporations selling out their soul only to get short term attention.
@@BlindmanPepperspray Personally I agree, it is a shame how some shows had so much effort put into them just to have them be shut down. But, I was just using sailor mouth as more of an example than a statement. There are probably better interpretations out there but I was just trying to make an example.
@@BlindmanPepperspray Yeah. I actually find it sad about what happened to Harvey Beaks. I don't want to jump to conclusion that Spongebob is behind all of the cancellations of the Nickelodeon shows, whether they are good or not, but I kinda wish Harvey Beaks should deserve a second chance. Loud House is considered to be lucky enough to survive the Russian roulette. That being said, I think the "tradition" of cancelling shows that are not as popular as Spongebob in terms of ratings should be ditched out and fired the executive producers for being held irresponsible.
@@BlindmanPepperspray I kinda liked Harvey Beaks and pretty sad about the show's cancellation. I tend to hate some actually good shows that cannibalized by SpongeBob, like that show and Mighty B for some reason. I mean they're legit good and actual hardwork is there by then killed by execs
You know I never understood exactly what sparked the “SpongeBob promotes homosexuality to children” opinion before this, so thank you for answering a question that I have wondered for many years. I actually had a pretty real issue with this so-called controversy about 9 to 10 years ago when my son was around kindergarten age. Both my husband and I at the time Lived next-door to his parents and our entire family went to a pretty conservative church. Well just by chance my son got very into SpongeBob and I frequently let him watch it at our home. However when many of our church friends and family found out after my mother-in-law found out, I was hit with all kinds of backlash for allowing him to watch this and buying him SpongeBob clothes and toys. Now I had never heard anything about this controversy before. Suddenly I had all of these people telling me that SpongeBob was homosexual/promoting homosexuality. And I found it almost comically absurd that any reasonable adult could argue that a cartoon Character could even have a Sexual Orientation. And if there was any direct or overtly sexual messages of ANYKIND in the cartoon, I would never allow my young child to watch it. Even considering the episode you discussed that apparently began this misinformed ignorant opinion, The episode does not show anything such as them getting married, setting out wanting a baby together, or anything overtly romantic between them. I mean even when they are living together it does not show anything as suggestive as them sleeping in the same bed, I mean yes they do share SpongeBob‘s bed but not snuggled up together actually it shows them trying to do it in a comical way Without even any physical contact. I took a lot of heat for refusing to ban my son from watching the show. And even when I repeatedly asked, what or where can I find some kind of direct reference of content of any sexual nature at all, The same individuals could not tell me but simply gave me ignorant statements along the lines of” just look at how he talks and acts” or “everyone knows that’s the message Nickelodeon’s intending to portray”. And I choose to be a good Christian by loving all of my fellow man and extending kindness to my fellow man By judging them on the kind of human being they are and understanding I have no right to pass any judgment on them further than that. So despite My personal and religious beliefs, I know that I have no right to pass judgement nor look down on the LGBTQ+..or any other community for that matter. (Anyone who reads and believes in their Bible like me, should know that we all fall short of God and are sinners by nature in one form or another and he directly tells us that judging others puts them closer to heaven than us). Adults should also be smart enough to remember with shows aimed at small children, almost all kids that age just see the humor and direct message presented,And take it at face value, most cannot possibly understand the complexities of adult issues and apply them to their cartoons. I remember when my little boy watched the episode in question, he never even made any kind of mention to me about the baby having two daddies, or about it being wrong or even strange. He simply saw it as two friends working together to help the little scallop. He laughed more about SpongeBob growing so many arms to do all of those chores and Patrick pretending to go to work but going and sleeping under his rock all day and Remember those parts well enough that that’s what he mentioned afterwards. And it was things like that that he enjoyed the show for even when there was a little bit of social commentary here and there it was pretty much lost on him. Because he was a child, he was still simple innocent and naïve to complex or adult issues. I wish more adults realized that when we take children’s cartoons (as long as they don’t contain clearly inappropriate material), we are the ones who make children aware of grown-up topics instead of doing what we should do as good parents and protecting the time they have to enjoy that period of carefree innocence, because the world will take it from them soon enough. In the end I told all of my detractors that I frankly thought they were acting less educated than my kindergartner by arguing to me that a cartoon sponge can be a Homosexual 🙄. I refused to put a stop to him watching it at my home, and although his grandma and grandpa did all they could to try to deter him from wanting to watch it, and went out of their way to get him to find a new “favorite cartoon”. But in the end when he asked why he wasn’t allowed to watch it over there, they couldn’t give him a good explanation. Because when they were interacting solely with my son, even they didn’t fully buy their own argument. If they truly Believed that this cartoon portrayed some kind of homosexual message that my child was capable of understanding and picking up on…they could’ve simply said just that. But they knew in their hearts that my son didn’t have any concept of sexual relations or matters, and they didn’t want to be the ones to actually do what they were accusing a cartoon of, and put an adult message he was way too young to hear in his head. Parents……if instead of us picking apart everything our children may see & hear for some kind of perceived Political Incorrectness or Argument. Then fighting constantly to block out, sensor, and wall off, all subject matter, even if imaginary, that conflicts with our values. Maybe put that time to actual good use, Like I used to. Actually sit down and watch the shows your kids like, Watch or play their favorite video games with them, and talk to your kids while they’re engaged with things they enjoy, ask them about why they like that particular thing and ask them to Explain a little bit about it to you. This grants you an actual understanding of how your child sees this content and what makes it attractive to them. To many parents in the world today are forgetting the importance of maintaining an actual dialogue with your child. They enjoy the convenience of having technology too act as a surrogate parent, and assume enough censorship eventually will be enough to protect all children. I know it takes a little more time, but look at and evaluate your child as an individual. Have conversations every now and then, allow them to ask questions, and despite any personal feelings you may have allow them to speak and listen to them even if the topic is uncomfortable or something you strongly disagree with. No matter how hard you try there will come a time when you cannot keep total control of outside influence. And if you only allow discussion and understanding that lines up with your views. That is the point where we fail them as parents. As their age and understanding permits we have to allow them to be exposed to real world issues. And if you don’t foster and nurture this open dialogue, and let them know you will always be there with understanding and an open mind if they need to talk. You will just hurt both yourself and your child in the long run. Because you will not stop them from finding out about a topic if they are curious. You will just cause them to seek advice elsewhere, that may not be from someone good or may be incorrect altogether. You may also prevent them from coming to you for help if a serious matter arises and they’re life or wellbeing may depend on it. Preventing children from vulgar language, obscenity, sexual material, violent movies & video games, sensitive topics, inappropriate music or anything else, will never take the place of an involved loving parent. You can teach your child what your religious or family values are on certain matters, while still responsibly educating them on those issues and teaching them that we don’t have to agree with others beliefs, but we I have to respect them as individual people and we have to respect their right to have their own beliefs.
With the banning of mid life crustacean, it shows that Nickelodeon has a double standard. They get rid of one SpongeBob episode but keep the mountain of adult jokes and innuendos from icarly, drake and josh and victorious. FYI the three shows I mentioned were created by Dan Schneider.
I find it interesting that Midlife crustacean was pulled from rotation and streaming services. My grandparents own a CD of a bunch of early SpongeBob episodes and it’s on there. My grandad loves the episode. I’m so used to seeing it that I never even realized it was pulled from the show
It’s a real bummer considering it’s sister episode is the snail race, a classic. It’s gone from streaming for simply being attached to midlife crustacean :,(

Censorship in Spongebob is basically just removing things to shut up the groups that yell the loudest. Compare the Panty Raid and "swearing" to the images in Face Freeze and the drawn out mutilation of Squidward in House Fancy.
I'm also that episode of Sandy getting her fur stolen and running around town "naked", even getting conveniently censored despite still wearing her usual indoor attire, is still up even though that's no less lewd than Panty Raid, which was a small part at the end of an episode versus the WHOLE episode.
I remember the first time finding out about the ‘Procrastination’ deleted scene. It was weird because it wasn’t deleted in my copy. Plus, that one scene never stick out to me as offensive either
I think the Squirrel Jokes episode perfectly illustrates what the late, great, Sir Terry Pratchett said about satire. "Satire is meant to ridicule those in power. If you're punching down to those who are hurting, that's not satire, that's bullying."

12:38 exactly! Dark Humor while also making it okay for KIDS is very tricky which is why you don't see that many dark humor kids cartoons out there. Although The Ghost and Molly Mcgee does have little sprinkles of Dark humor in it from the bits I've seen. So while not nearly as dark-humored as Invader Zim, Grim Adventures, or Courage the Cowardly Dog, it is sort of making a comeback
For the episode Procrastination, I don’t really understand why people thought Patrick was taking Sandy’s bra off. The only strap on her bra is around her back and it’s visible in the scene. It kind of sucks that Procrastination had so many deleted scenes in general too.
Funny about #3 being controversial for 'villifying big businesses' when... in our modern day, more and more well loved and big businesses are showing their true evil colours. Nestle, Nintendo (Somewhat), Activision Blizzard, Roblox, Walmart, Chick-fil-a, Amazon, Google, so on and so so forth. This episode aged really well considering how its becoming more and more true
Strider is still one of my favorite RUclips people, he has a very down to earth Mr Rogers way of explaining important or serious issues, also while i understand some bans: Squidward being lit on fire multiple times, the cruel out of character way of spoungebob/Krabs & of course #1 being poorly based on a current serous issue. i have to agree that most of these reasons bans/controversal episodes seem to have come from stupid or overly sensitive reasons
I hope to love someone as much as Strider loves the Blandy Franchising Company. 7:50 Also, if there hasn’t been a Krusty Truckstop episode, there had better be a special 2-parter in the future.
Mid Life Crustacean: *Has a panty raid* Nickelodeon: Too inappropriate. One Coarse Meal and Pet Sitter Pat: *One has Krabs torture Plankton to the point of suicide and another has Patrick abuses someone who is suppose to be like a cat* Nickelodeon: Kid friendly.
Fun fact about Sailor Mouth: in the script, it was basically [ad-lib almost cursing]. The actors, unable to do this in a way that sounds natural, decided to just swear outright and bleep it out later. So, there exists audio out there, deep in Nick's vault, of Mr. Krabs, Spongebob, and Patrick swearing.
I have a hard time believing that Sailor Mouth was pulled. For starters, you don't even hear any swearing; just a bunch of random sound effects (mostly dolphin squeaks). Also, the episode is all about discouraging the behavior! The only thing I can think of is that parent groups pretty much watched the episode right up to the scene where Patrick started encouraging Spongebob to use the new word that he learned.
@@phantomstrider I’m gonna be honest, I disagree with you in your other spongebob videos, I don’t like Shipping SpongeBob and Sandy, I am not a Spandy Shipper (in my opinion), I’m also not a shipping person in general either, I don’t like to watch spongebob for romance, I like to watch spongebob because it’s fun and relaxing kids show.
The swearing episode reminded me of an 'Arthur' episode where D.W. learns a "bad word" and a 'Rug-Rats' episode where Agelica learns one aswell; so I guess it's a well use plot device in cartoons where a character finds out about the certain word but is to young to know any better about not saying it, however unlike Angelica and D.W. who are little kids Spongebob and Patrick are both full grown adults so it's kind of odd to seem them act so naive about curse words.
Im a gay man myself and honestly rock-a-by bival was ironically such a sweet ep, i liked how nobody cared that spongebob and patrick were both men they were just confused about the logical of a sea star and a sponge raising a shell fish lol which was pretty refreshing from the constant “EW TWO MAN KISSING” jokes cartoons loved to do at that time
Wow, that Clam Flu episode seems so strange and atypical to me that it feels more like a creepypasta about a lost Spongebob episode than a real Episode... but it is 100% real... that's so insane.
I still don't forgive Nick for cutting out the scene where Squidward breaks into the Krusty Krab in "Just One Bite". That part still leaves me in stitches. Squidward: this isn't water. This is... *0-0* GAS!
I think it's because the episode aired in the 9/11 era. I find it understandable to remove such content, but if it's not, then the survivors who watched the show might ended up getting scarred. For me, I didn't noticed that scene as a kid until I got older.
Actually building more roads DOES NOT reduce traffic. The increased supply makes people want to drive more and the free space is quickly filled up, paradoxically causing MORE traffic. This is called induced demand and has been observed many times.
20:28 even as a kid, I already knew what they were censoring out lol. As an "adult" I still don't see the issue in cussing. "cuss words" are just words that as a society you're TAUGHT to think they're "bad" and as you get older, the cuss words are more accepted to the point it's very common for teens and especially adults, to cuss. Plus they ARE "sentence enhancers" depending on how they're used. Often times cussing is used to represent when a character is overwhelmed with frustration and reaching their breaking point. But when a character cusses almost all the time, it can make them seem less intelligent. Really, the older you get, the more cussing becomes like a balancing act
Lucky for me, I have "Midlife Crustacean" on one of the old Spongebob Squarepants DVDs. I mainly liked it, because Mr Krabs wasn't being greedy or cheap. Like you said, he was seen on the side of "relatable" when he has his midlife crisis. Also in "Procrastination," I actually got a chuckle from the second deleted scene because since we all know how bad Spongebob was at driving, I just thought it was another way of showing how bad Spongebob was at driving. Also also, "Sailor Mouth" was freaking hilarious! Yes it had excessive swearing, but the thing was that no one said actual curse words. So how could little kids learn the words, if the words aren't even being said? If anything, they would just learn how to impersonate a dolphin and that's it. ALSO ALSO ALSO, I don't know about you, but "Selling Out" might be one of my FAVORITE Mr Krabs episodes of all time. Reason being: Krabs has ran the Krusty Krab for such a long time and (for the most part in early seasons) did a good job keeping the restaurant going. But when he gets back and sees that everything has gone downhill since he left, he takes full action on bringing the old Krusty Krab back. THAT'S what I liked about this episode, the fact that he would give up on all the money he was given to go back to work at the restaurant HE created!
(Trigger warning) I'm very surprised Nick didn't pull One Coarse Meal off the air for Mr Krabs pushing Plankton to suicide. Seriously the signs are there. Plankton gets mentally crippled by Mr Krabs and Plankton lays on the road, waiting for a bus to put him out of his misery, and all Mr Krabs did was laugh at his misery and seemed like he didn't give a shit he was pushing someone to offing themselves.
@@rodrigomontalvo910 I… So the episode that was a pretty Ok representation of depression will get pulled off the air but a greedy crab torturing a plankton to attempted suicide won’t,-
@Nevo Mizrachi Because suicide is a sensitive topic and some people aren't comfortable with reading about it. One example is people who lost someone close because they offed themself.
As a Canadian, I'm pretty certain Mid-Life Crustacean was banned from Canadian airings far before Nick banned it in America, but I don't recall exactly when. I recall watching it on tv much less compared to other episodes, so it did at least have its reruns for a while, but it was surprisingly banned in Canada before Nick banned it for America (which I would only realize when I saw that YTV, a Toronto based station, would skip it while airing the episodes in order every now and then). Canada tends to more laid back about censorship, so I always thought it was weird it was banned with no word before Nick's official statement. Probably it being paired with The Great Snail didn't help at all. Funny enough, in Canadian airings we still get other things censored in America airings, like the Just One Bite "deleted scene" and the Red Mist reference in Spongebob in Randomland. Thank goodness there's youtube for Mid-Life Crustacean because it was always one of my faves!
9:33 Something really weird happened relating to the deleted scenes My sister was watching SpongeBob while I was doing homework in the family room and that episode was playing, then I was in shock when I saw that very scene appear in the episode. It looks like they either put it back in or the streaming service (I don’t know what it’s called) possessed original cut.
That number one spot seemed like it had great potential for humor. A health inspector randomly walks into the Krusty krab, says “one of you is infected” and leaves. From its portrayal here, that seems like it would be the funniest part of the episode.
Figures that about half of these controversies are politically motivated. The "Sailor Mouth" issue clearly was just an absurd, uptight, zero-tolerance complaint with little to nothing to back it up (reminds me of "Banned in Bikini Bottom"). For that "Just One Bite" scene, I mean, the whole Tide Pods incident made me lose confidence that some kids _wouldn't_ try that. Then again, this stunt would fit right into Looney Toons and other such cartoons, and _they_ repeatedly give the impression that any number of lethal things would only give you mild to moderate injury.
The only "banned" episode I know about is Kwarantined Krab, and the only episode I still haven't seen (Ik there are ways to see it! 😉😂) Mid Life Crustacean I found out isn't on Paramount as you mentioned, (which is stupid ik) But Kwarantined Krab is the only truly BANNED episode!! 😂
@@paraskep5080 It was, I heard it wasn't banned in Canada or something? Also I think there's a non English version! (Idk if these things were true or not, but it's whet I heard!)
I’ve gotta be honest with you, about "Midlife Curstacean", which was banned in my country, I always thought it was because of the other segment, "The Great Snail Race", which I can definitely see causing controversy. And as for "SpongeBob You're Fired", that unemployment issue bothered me more because of continuity: Why would Patrick enjoy being unemployed after episodes of him being sad about not having a job, like "No Hat for Pat" or "Patrick-Man!" (That one aired in the same season too! Come on!)? But, if we’re going into controversies, I’m surprised Sandy's scene didn’t get a spotlight, of mocking homeless people. I’m also surprised "Nasty Patty" wasn’t mentioned as well, which was also banned in my country.
I don't remember which episode it is (I think it's Squidward in Clarinet Land), but there's another episode where Mr. Krabs brings his old navy locker to the Krusty Krab for Spongebob and Squidward to use, and when he opens it there's a skeleton inside. He says something like "I forgot about that prank" and disposes of the body. Mr. Krabs has canonically killed someone out of negligence before, so it's likely his navy buddies died in that freezer too.
7:29 I love the subtle humor of you going "maybe the Shelly super highway was lessening traffic" with you cutting to footage of all the bumper to bumper traffic going off into the distance.

Hey Strider have you ever heard of Glitch Techs??? It's one of the best modern Nick cartoons. It's on Netflix. Glitch Techs has amazing modern animation really likable characters and a very creative premise. I believe it's the best Nickshow in years and it might get cancelled :'I
Thanks for doing this episode. It's nice to know you saw my comment suggesting the top 10 Spongebob controversies. As an autistic RUclipsr it means a lot to me to get noticed and I had thought the comment had disappeared when I couldn't find it again. :) That said, I remember watching Procrastination here in Britain, while the scene with Patrick putting sun cream on Sandy was aired uncensored (even though the UK could get rather puritanical with Spongebob such as cutting lines where characters said 'Oh my aching tentacles'), I do remember a modification to the driving licence fantasy where Spongebob imagines getting his driving licence and instead of the car crashing they showed a monster truck crashing through parked cars in an event, perhaps feeling the footage would have enough context not to be a problem. Also, Adam Something has done some interesting videos on sorting out traffic congestion; ruclips.net/video/oafm733nI6U/видео.html ruclips.net/video/lrfsTNNCbP0/видео.html
Man, has times changed since Mr Enter's debut on RUclips reviewing One Course Meal and A Pal For Gary. Quite the character development! At least the Polish Dub fixed the infamous scene where Spongebob(Scumbob in the poorly executed episodes from Season 6-8 thanks to Pieguyrulz)calls Gary instead of Puffy Fluffy out! I'm not from Europe despite originating from British, Irish, and German descent, but I like this decision to fix plot holes. In fact, I don't blame the writers for these bad episodes on this list, it's the executive interference via franchise abuse/executive meddling/franchise milking.
Yeah. I think the cartoon community has changed for the better. Mr. Enter toned down his anger and his content improved compared to his older ones (although, there are times where he has a solid point). The part in one of his Animation Atrocity videos where Enter said that the three writers of Spongebob Squarepants from Season 6 - 8 should be fired and blacklisted because they made a bad episode is pretty terrible. Sure, the writers aren't doing a great job, but blacklisting them and giving them death threats isn't a good sign.
Its always very interesting to learn of which episodes of a beloved show faced controversy and what the reason was. Id like to see you tackle other shows, Strider. Bring more of a breath of fresh air to the channel. Why not videos on other cartoons like Avatar, Adventure Time and so on.
@@alejandrohernandez-pq4wu they were added back about 2 years ago. They might of only been restored for when the show airs on nicktoons and I know for a fact that they were intact on the few teennick airings the episode had. They might be cut in the main channel since they also speed up older episodes, but last time I saw it on the main channel it had all of the scenes intact. The Episodes have a type of feeling that trying to make you the same feeling, some of them could get banned or just interesting, Thanks Strider, I watch since 2 or 3 years and thanks for making me happy and interested. :)
It's funny how western animation is put under so much scrutiny for gender rolls, cursing, environmental views and pantie jokes. But nobody questions that its a show about a talking sponge living in a piece of fruit...
The ONLY thing I really adored in the "Fired" episode was the fact that Spongebob found SOME happiness when he cooked "Pet" food for Gary And him seeing Gary happy made him happy ❤
I think you hit the nail on the head about how a show stops being quality when the characters are changed to fit the plot rather than the characters reacting to the plot in their own way
Hey, Strider! I was having a not-so-good day today but this video made my day a bit better. You're awesome and I hope you keep making more amazing content! 😊💖 (Also, I have an idea of another list you can do, Best and Worst Mario Spinoffs!)
Being someone who worked in an establishment that kind of felt similar to the way Krabby O’Monday’s was portrayed. The way the staff had to behave was almost on par for how Squidward and Spongebob felt.
Fun fact about “Sailor Mouth”: Tom Kenny stated in a Phoenix Comic Con panel I attended back in 2019 that while recording for the episode, he and the other voice actors were legitimately swearing!
What would've made the filler episode more enjoyable is if our spongy protagonist got a job at a sandwich shop since Krabby Patties or burgers in general are technically sandwiches. Mr. Krabs, disappointed at SpongeBob's success at his new job tries to hire him back but he refuses leading into a sort of mini-season where Krabs tries to re-hire him to no avail eventually culminating into the filler's episodic plot but reversed.
The lesson of “Squirrel Jokes” is what Parker and Stone live by: If you’re going to be offensive, offend everybody. Leave nobody out of your offensive jokes.
9:23 ...I almost rolled my eyes at if this was the reasoning of insulting the audience's intelligence, until I remembered the incident where a young Beavis & Butthead viewer set fire to his house, which killed his little sister. Then I started thinking "maybe we give kids' intelligence too much credit"...
For a GOOD example of dark humor in SpongeBob, watch Nasty Patty. A plot literally about trying to cover up an assumed murder, but the jokes are actually funny and varied, and the characters actually act true to themselves.

The only american animation I watch is Ninjago
Trollhunters, imo, is a masterpiece. I'm 17 and it had me hooked enough to binge the whole series! Trollhunters, 3Below, Wizards, and Rise of the Titans. It appealed to me well and I embarrassingly have been extremely hyperfixated on it since the movie released, the story just appeals to me and the humor is amazing.

😮 Wow That's pretty cool of Mr. Kenny to do. I betcha the guys must have had some serious fun doing that in the recording studio.
So let me get this straight. The episode meant to teach you NOT to swear... had people claiming that it promoted swearing?
Yep
Apparently, the world is so twisted. I feel like most of those strict parents/adults that criticize things like this just want an excuse to not like it, so they twist the overall meaning of something to validate their opinion that’s completely biased. Idk how someone could see this as promoting swearing, it’s literally means the exact opposite, SpongeBob and Patrick keep getting in trouble for swearing. How do they not get it
Yes, and this episode didn't even reveal them. This is like someone saying that they are pro at Minecraft without knowing how to play it.

It's a good video, as always, but as a follow-up to the whole thing about "stereotyping people and them disliking it," Jacksepticeye recently did a video where he was reading reviews of his channel on a website that tells parents about content for children. Most of the negative reviews for Sean's channel (and even some of the positive ones) did nothing but bring up swearing and he was basically like 'I spent all of this time promoting focusing on your mental health, raising all of this money for charity, and trying to be a good force in the world...and all anyone remembers about me is the swearing.'
I had started watching this before I saw that video from Sean, but seeing him come up as the image for "swearing in the RUclips gaming space" after seeing him talk about how that's anyone seems to know about him hits a little differently than it probably would have before.
Strider is definitely the Mr. Rogers of this generation. He’s not afraid to talk about important topics and talks about them in a very detailed, yet easy to understand manner. Tbh, I kinda thought some of the episodes were pretty much teaching kids about adult things. For example, the "sailor mouth" episode was just telling kids that cursing is bad and that they shouldn't do it otherwise they will get in trouble. I can see how it can be controversial to some parents but to me, its just teaching a very valuable lesson to kids.
hi there Whitty

He never said that though. Sir Terry himself would satire those who aren’t in power, since everyone deserves criticism regardless of their standing.
@@Dracomut Depends what you define as "power". He certainly didn't make jokes at the expense of people who are already facing cultural oppression.
@@MysticMindAnalysis Or you could be like South Park or Louis CK and not give a shit. Why settle for offending one group when you could go for all sides, including your own?
@@skeetermania3202 Because offence is not a virtue, and minorities suffer under the prevalence of stereotypes. Perpetuating harmful myths does not make you some kind of comedy genius.

The tentacles are on Squidward

It wasn't pulled 🙂 It just received controversy in the media.
Hi Strider!

I think it's because the episode aired in the 9/11 era. I find it understandable to remove such content, but if it's not, then the survivors who watched the show might ended up getting scarred.

@@poweroffriendship2.0 oh trust me, I've heard of that reasoning but at the same time that's a bit of a stretch.

Actually building more roads DOES NOT reduce traffic. The increased supply makes people want to drive more and the free space is quickly filled up, paradoxically causing MORE traffic. This is called induced demand and has been observed many times.

@@skeetermania3202 look it up
So true
2:19 Oh gee, I wonder what it could possibly be considering how you mentioned it EARLIER IN THIS ENTRY!
I always knew what censoring was.
(Trigger warning)
I'm very surprised Nick didn't pull One Coarse Meal off the air for Mr Krabs pushing Plankton to suicide.
Why did you have a tg?
And they won’t anytime soon. Are you happy now? will likely get the ax since Nick stopped airing it 2yrs ago.
@@rodrigomontalvo910 I…
So the episode that was a pretty Ok representation of depression will get pulled off the air but a greedy crab torturing a plankton to attempted suicide won’t,-
@Nevo Mizrachi Because suicide is a sensitive topic and some people aren't comfortable with reading about it.
Thank goodness there's youtube for Mid-Life Crustacean because it was always one of my faves!
you do realize you’re repeating the same points every single sentence…
9:33
Something really weird happened relating to the deleted scenes
My sister was watching SpongeBob while I was doing homework in the family room and that episode was playing, then I was in shock when I saw that very scene appear in the episode.

@@kirisuna19 Yeah, "Kwarantined Krab" aired in Canada on August 9, 2021 and numerous European countries.

That said, I remember watching Procrastination here in Britain, while the scene with Patrick putting sun cream on Sandy was aired uncensored (even though the UK could get rather puritanical with Spongebob such as cutting lines where characters said 'Oh my aching tentacles'), I do remember a modification to the driving licence fantasy where Spongebob imagines getting his driving licence and instead of the car crashing they showed a monster truck crashing through parked cars in an event, perhaps feeling the footage would have enough context not to be a problem.

Times really has changed, he actually calmed down.
