Love Billy and loved the reaction. He is a force of nature. Skip dust in a baggie, everybody's done it. Go right for "Meet me at the Creek," or "Away from the Mire." Live of course.
Billy Strings is FIRE! He plays all type's of music, with a bluegrass twist. Black Sabbath in bluegrass, yes. Pink Floyd in bluegrass, yes. Cher in bluegrass, yes... all amazing. His best song is In The Morning Light. Go deep dive. Everyone is welcome at a Billy Strings show. You will see all walks and ages dancing the entire show.
Definitely listen to more! Billy Strings is a legend before his time. I personally think he's an alien and music is his chosen language. 😉 Seriously, he is admired by many generations across many genres. He just joined forces with Tool for a surprise on-stage live collaboration @ Salt Lake City just a few days ago. Great reactions! ♥
Billy Strings plays incredibly tense, intricate music with chord structures far beyond bluegrass. Strings has nursed on the same muse's breast milk that blessed Hendrix. This is rarified pyschodelic stuff not heard since the 60s. PS Polo, You'd be welcome at any concert they had, as is. No cowboy boots required.
What you are referring to is bluegrass And as for the soggy bottom boys that was just a name they gave the group the main singer/guitar player behind them was a guy by the name of Dan Tyminski
Saw them twice this year and going again in February 2023. It's crazy to think a legit bluegrass band is selling out arenas and attracts such a diverse audience.
He grew up bluegrass then got into heavy metal. And fuses the engery of metal in bluegrass. That saying something those old boy who started bluegrass moved their hands like lightning. Him and Marcus King have a song they did together in a guitar shop called Summertime. They are 2 best young guitar player around.
O Brother Where Art Thou is a fantastic movie!!! Billy Strings is a force of nature. I first found him when he popped up in my feed playing Dust in a baggie on his couch when he was much younger get. Been hooked ever since!
Welcome to Billy Strings! Lots of places to go next, but a natural place is Dust in a Baggie, either the solo one with him on a couch or with his band at the Opry. No cowboy boots required. Billy attracts ALL types.
@@messiahmoose Young and on the couch is better...shows him at the very beginning of his performing career....... I agree, currently, i would much prefer seeing him perform with the fellas rather than solo, but the couch "Dust" version is an exception, and is the Gold Standard YT performance of that song.
Go see him if you can! He would love to have more diversity at his shows. And no, you don't have to have a pair of cowboy boots! This is not cowboy music, it's actually a variation of Bluegrass/ hillbilly music!
What Brian said :) but at his concerts, tie dye is probably more common. His Grammy was for bluegrass, but he's taken it to a whole new level. Great reaction.
Thanks for doing this reaction. I just saw Billy and his band for the first time two nights in a row. It was almost the end of the first night when it dawned on me there was no drums and I didn't even miss them. I also thought SOGGY BOTTOM BOYS but these guys are ALL like BLUEGRASS ON STEROIDS. MY NEW FAVORITE 😉👍🖤🎵
I love Billy Strings! More please! So much great music to choose from! You should check out Heartbeat of America, Away From the Mire, Dust in a Baggie, Watch It Fall, Meet Me at the Creek, Taking Water and Wargasm just to name a few.
The soundtrack for "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" was bluegrass. This tune is bluegrass. That's the connection you're feeling. Bluegrass is a very technical style of music. When you see 4 (or 5) people playing bluegrass, you'll notice there's no drums. This makes this style even more difficult because each of the players has to be so in synch with one another to know when to kick in, when to pull back and when it's their turn to solo. The best way to educate yourself about bluegrass is to watch it live. Watch how they signal one another and how they never step over one another. It's an artform for real.
Music does not care about colour or nationality or borders. Two people who have never met and can't speak the same tongue could sit down and jam. That's the beauty of music. Great video. Thanks and stay safe.
Polo Reacts...missing the whole point of Billy's music. Yes he's a prodigal on the guitar..his bandmates are all synced to him. But the LYRICS he's written touch so many of us. How many had alcoholic..drug addicted parents or siblings or spouses. His music hits those nerves unlike any artist singing about sex or booze or their money. But to OVERCOME those hardships. Those unfortunate events. To fly above the struggle. Musical mastery doesn't account for that. But Billy and his band NAIL IT ON ALL COUNTS! That's the appreciation for truth! He's REAL! God bless!
May I suggest a few songs. Billy Strings and Molly Tuddle - Little Maggie, and Billy Strings with Marcus King singing Summertime, and Billy and Marcus singing Lonesome Fugitive. You can fall down a deep hole following him through RUclips. Have fun.
If we needed to label this...progressive bluegrass (honoring all of americana's musical cornerstones)...he does non-bluegrass riffage homages in live performances.
soggy bottom boys was a long time ago. I'm glad that movie happened, might have saved bluegrass years ago. But dude, get up to speed, if Billy strings reminds you of that, it's like saying post malone reminds you of Marky Mark
"I recall a silver morning, when your face had turned to gray, you were standing right before me, but I missed you every day" reminds me of drug addiction... (not to mention smoking off tinfoil) such a profound lyric. 😭
Hey Polo it’s been two years but in a couple weeks @billystrings will be doing oh Billy where art thou for Halloween a full theatrical musical recreation of that movie in Baltimore Oct 31st…… it’s the best show on the planet right now this guy… #1 album last week…. Billy MF Strings!!!!
It's the "soggy bottom boys" and Billy Strings actually covers the song "man of constant sorrow" from the movie "O brother where art thou". You're welcome 💯💪🏼🙏🏼✌🏼💜🤘🏼😎
Anything by Billy Strings is amazing lyrically and as far as the talent among the band, you won't find better. If you all really want a treat look up King and Strings, that's Billy Strings and Marcus King. Marcus is another 'old soul' you really need to check him out as well, the Marcus King Band. And for some real authentic country check out Colter Wall.
Polo....my friend....if you like this....and you like Chris Stapleton......you have to listen to a band called the Steeldrivers.......it is a Bluegrass band ( this genre of music)......that Chris Stapleton was their lead singer for several albums......it is FIRE 🔥
POLO!!! You must check out -Bela Fleck and Billy Strings--Boulderdash......... It Doesn't get more skilled than that unless you add Victor Wooten of course
Billy can hang with some of the world's greatest guitar players, check him out with Tommy Emmanuel. Congratulations on your new bluegrass discovery. His fan base doesn't wear cowboy hats, he actually attracts a lot of Dead heads.
You would dig Allison Krauss and Union Station is you dig Billy Strings. And has been said, if you can check out them LIVE. It is a friggin Love fest, a good time for all and this music just ripples down your spine which, for me, means the music is really hitting you right in the soul. As Bob Marley (I believe) once said, "Hit me with music and I will feel no pain".
I liked the comparisons to O Brother because the guitarist in the movie sold his soul to the Devil for his talent, and there's absolutely no way Billy Strings is human.
You don't need cowboy boots lol. Billy string style of music he plays is in the style of Appalachian mountain folk style bluegrass music. Where he's not from there but his family is from there and his descendants. Us mountain people grow up with music in our homes there's many of people today in the mountains I live in where you can go hear good musicianship like Billy strings playing on their front porch everyday. Lol
Seems like you enjoy honesty in music. Same. It makes for a more relatable experience. I'd recommend "Highly Suspect" I don't really have a strong standing point for any particular song. I guess 'For Billy" hits hard
Wow since you like this kind of music and you love rap you should check out Ganstagrass and their mv All For One. It’s a crazy blend of hip hop and blue grass. It shouldn’t work so well but it does. I promise you won’t regret giving it a listen!
Billy is wearing sneakers and usually does - they are much better for hopping or bounding around in. "Man of Constant Sorrow" Soggy Bottom Boys from "O Brother Where Art Thou" - it is blue grass but it turns up the anty by moving toward rock. It reminds me of BELA FLEK AND THE FLEKTONES - their album UFO TOFU and a song like "Sex In a Pan" is one of many great songs [Bela Flek is best with Howard Levy in the band - BELA FLEK has no drums, but Roy Wooten plays an invented instrument called a Drumitar and Roy Wooten is phenomenal on bass. You have probably heard of YO YO MA - world renowned celloist - why not watch him do BLUE GRASS - it's on Yo Yo Ma's Channel 2012 - he's with Edgar Meyers and others - it's awesome.
"you got to be a different type of guy to pull those glasses off" I love it! Polo, you go to go see him live.
Love Billy and loved the reaction. He is a force of nature. Skip dust in a baggie, everybody's done it. Go right for "Meet me at the Creek," or "Away from the Mire." Live of course.
great songs
this guy gets it
Away from the Mire has been on repeat for me recently as I navigate through some mental stuff. The lyrics speak to me so much.
@@mstuckey311 Dont worry the rangers got me going through some mental stuff too. Jokes aside, Mire is top shelf stuff.

He's doing Duane Alman bird chirps now too! Just an incredible talent!

Do yourself a HUGE favor , when Billy Strings come your town .......GO SEE HIM !!!
yes! you will leave happy!
Billy Strings is a power house
His live shows are fire and he is now playing large venues...please react to many more live performances such as last year's Grammy Awards.
"His live shows are fire" understatement of the century right there. His shows are church!
Seriously!!! I went to 1 in sacramento and went to Palo alto and La too it was so good. Def going to any Cali billy shows .
Saw them twice this year and going again in February 2023. It's crazy to think a legit bluegrass band is selling out arenas and attracts such a diverse audience.
I'd love to see a Billy Strings / Dead South concert.
Check out The Dead South "The Good Lord" and you will really dig the rustic Bluegrass vibe it has going...

Billy Strings and Marcus King are 2 of my faves. I've been blessed to see both live this year (saw Billy twice!)

Thanks for checking it man! Billy Strings is another artist who just got the sauce. Loved the reaction man. Appreciate you.
this is easily the best version of this great song! thanx
I don't know the one in Mishawaka is sooooo raw! And you can see just how young he was.
Just wanted to update this...Baltimore July 3rd 2022. 26 minute Turmoil. Absolute HEAT!
Billy's got the Jim Jones glasses lol. But he's rocking em. And only Billy Strings could headbang to bluegrass lmao

I agree dust in a baggie is amazing
the first video ever of Dust In A Baggie though where he sits on the couch in his living room

Billy Strings is my latest musical obsession
Once you wrap your brain around the music, the lyrics are a different rabbit hole all together.
Ok
I've been bingeing on your reaction vids
You ACTUALLY know who Billy Strings is
Ok
You LEGIT
In a Blue grass band, the mandilion is used as the main drum/percussion for the band.
You will be accepted no matter what you wear! Go see a live show! You won’t regret it! ✨
Billy wears vans so you should be good hahaha
Billy strings really is just full of talent, and a wholesome person on top of that.

You are correct, this is Blue Grass, the same genre as in Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Billy is a great talented, artist.
Check out Dan Tyminski with “Hey Brother”
Dan is the man who sang for Oh Brother Where Art Thou

Billy Strings was invited up onstage to play with Tool during one of their recent shows. There's footage on here somewhere.

His whole song repertoire is fantastic. Been to 8 shows now.
There’s more talent in the Bluegrass genre than any other genre out there. And Billy and his band is just one of those phenomenal talents.
for the real Brother for Art Thou sound go to "Man Of Constant Sorrow" & "Everything's The Same"- The Ryman in Nashville, TN 5/6/22
Billy MF Strings is the GOAT. Listen to "Away from the Mire" it has an unbelievable solo.
"This is an onslaught" made me laugh
Other music in this same vein . . . I'm with Her, Sarah Jarosz, Molly Tuttle, Chris Thile, Nickel Creek. Each and every one is amazing.
Meet Me at the Creek Live is a journey
