I moved to Gorleston in 1964 and lived just up near the Cliff Hotel. Fifty years ago, I was a gardener working the seafront, etc. Now, I live in the beautiful Borders of Scotland. It was odd watching a place I knew so well seem so long gone. I am so pleased it has had a renaissance; it went through some rough decades. Many stars appearing in the Great Yarmouth pier shows would have digs in Gorleston.
As someone who has lived and travelled the world this really is a beautiful, clean, relaxing beach with some amazing ice cream. And free parking which is almost unheard of in the UK!
It is nice to see white sands and a long walk to the water and very beautiful beaches and places to stay and walk around and visit the hotel and restaurant for lunch and tea have a drinks and the views are welcome sites and busy in the summer time thanks Neil
We spent a wonderful 2 weeks based in Gorleston back in 1965. I remember the lovely beach and the boating pool, and the entrance to the River Yare and saw a number of large boats using it. We stayed in a Guest House/Hotel run by The Peacock family, Mrs Peacock was of Dutch origin. It took a long time to get there by coach from Manchester one of the reasons we never went again. It is one of the few childhood holiday locations I have always meant to revisit but never made it (so far !!). This video has brought back such good memories for me.
At 1:21 when you go down on the sand you show the tips of the old groynes that were the original sea defences intended to stop the beach washing away. The sea used to come up to where your standing. The sand has been piled up in the last 40-odd years to make the lovely beach you show. And look at that sky over the sea!
I live just a few moments away from this lovely part of the world, thanks for doing the video Neil. The caption for 'Gorleston Pier' is in fact for the breakwater, if you had walked just a few paces more you would then have reached the real pier which shows up on the right hand side of the river view. I think you missed a trick too - walking along the cliff top gives some superb views and shows several other facilities. Even so - you give some great positive comments, thank you.
Its a lovely beach been a few times but i love the beaches further up in North Norfolk. Have you been to the seaside towns of Aldeburgh, Southwold, Orford and Thorpness in Suffolk? some of those are in AONB.
Not a great lot to offer for a family holiday. Lovely beach a few amusements, but if peace and quiet is what you are after the Gorleston is the place for you. As mentioned that is the breakwater that said Gorleston pier. if you keep walking then you are on the pier. There is a proper town centre with a high st few shops and eating places. Love your channel.
It looks nice from on top of the cliff (looking down on to the beach and sea) with the nice big houses and greenery and the garden you can walk through at the top, (or at least there was a garden there when i went a few times) the bottom part now looks a bit boring imo, It has a great beach though.

It's a really nice town with old-fashioned qualities. 👍

Gardens used to be an outdoor swimming pool, spent many a happy hour in there as a child, sham it's not still there
Is there an actual town centre or is that it in the video? Where do the locals shop for example?
I’m not sure - I’ve not really found it if there is
Just love the Art Deco architecture of the Ocean Room. Great photography as usual
You need to go to the Isle of Weight just come back from there beutiful some parts Allum Bay Beach is stunning
Hope you are feeling better. Surprising how deserted and shut down the place is - looks more like March than July.
Do another Ingoldmells full tour! 😊❤
