The colours were cool yes, but I think she’s trying to achieve that giant ‘bubbly/coiled up’ lollipop look… So she got a good swirl in the first one and it was pretty, but it didn’t _look_ like a lollipop, and that’s what she tried to go for in the end and subsequently made it even worse lol 🤷🏻♂️ But hey nobody starts anything out as a pro.

Even if the final product is perfectly alright from an outside perspective, when art is created with an image in mind, the artist alone knows the specifics of what they want it to look like, which is why I'm happy for her for not giving up until she was able to express what she was intending. (I do agree that the first cookie was very nice though)

Though another person will see it for the very first time exactly as it is and it would look amazing, since they haven't been staring right at it for ages. Another factor is artists are often more critical to their own art than other people are, for example I drew something I absolutely hated because it wasn't how I wanted, yet my friend looked at it and thought it was brilliant.

This isn’t getting in your head, this is the natural creative process. Sometimes what you make looks fine, but it’s not what you _intended_ to make. One of the biggest things you’re taught studying art is to not be unintentional. Ofc sometimes unintentional things do add to your art, but in this case they knew what they wanted and simply worked to make their design more accurate to their reference. That’s just how art works!

The pattern left behind is what she'd drawn on before she swirled it, if that's what you're talking about. The whole reason the top part gets swirled is because icing stays put when you put it on, but as a viscous liquid has some degree of movement. That's why the layer right on top of the cookie doesn't move and the top part becomes a swirl. (Otherwise it would mix together like ink the moment you got out multiple colors, wouldn't even stay on the cookie.0

It also seems like some OCD related perfectionism. I have that and its really severe to the point ill spend 3+ hours trying to line something up perfectly or else i will have a breakdown.
