      It’s literally only because people get tired of hearing about how good a QB is when he isn’t on their team. Guy never says anything out of pocket and is locked in when it comes to doing his job, so they have to claw for a reason to dismiss his ability.

      So is Justin Fields. Just watch his college highlights, then compare them to his NFL ones. *_He_*_ stayed consistent,_ throwing perfectly accurate low-flying missiles that got to their moving targets too quickly to be defended.
      His receivers in the NFL were so inept no one _needed to_ defend the. Running non-existent routes because they forgot what they were doing, falling down because putting feet in front of another is a skill they hadn't learned yet or ruclips.net/video/glpaya0xz-4/видео.html his #1 WR literally swatting passes out of the air like he thought they were attacking him.
      Those are just the ones that went for INTs. You all _know_ not every time people who trip over their own feet or swat away passes it was an INT. But while no one blames Mahomes for *his receivers deflecting passes for INTs,* Fields got blamed for _his _*_defense not holding leads_* scoring more than any other team in the NFL weeks 8-10 & the Bears losing all 3.
      But not one person looks at his actual passing ability & judges him on it the way they do Herbert. I wonder if anyone here _can._
      Even seen together with another QB who is far less accurate I find that people still judge on non-talent-related criteria. ruclips.net/video/5JO1PsupF_U/видео.html. I don't expect anything different from this crowd.

    Charger fan here. We all knew Justin was truly carrying us by November. He had to play elite level to keep us competitive in games. He got way to much shit after the Cowboy game, but his play wasn't that bad. Our team was that bad when he doesn't play 110%. And then after IR, we all saw how bad our team really was. Justin was making a bottom tier team and average team. We were the AFC Panthers with an elite QB in 2023.
    And apparently Ben Johnson would only consider HC for the Chargers, Pete Carroll tried to get the Charger job, Harbaugh came to the Chargers first. Why did all this happen? Justin Herbert.

    Justin Herbert pretty much has a .500 record while having the most injury prone offensive cast of any QB and never having a top 20 defense in his career. In Herbert's situation, Mahomes is the only QB in the NFL who would do better than 30-32. Herbert has to win shootouts on an almost weekly basis.
    If Herbert was in Burrow's situation, he'd already be a Super Bowl winning QB. In the '22 and '23 playoffs, Burrow had a top 2 WR duo (Chase, Higgins) and his defense never gave up 25+ points over SEVEN playoff games. Keep in mind, the Bengals defense faced the Bills, Chiefs 2x, and the Rams in the Super Bowl...never gave up 25+ points. It's crazy how Burrow is considered top 3 and Herbert is considered overrated.

    • @bmdub
      @bmdub 7 месяцев назад +2

      I honestly question if even Mahomes would do better than 30-32 having to deal with that football terrorist of a coaching staff. The main difference is Mahomes may not have been so quietly supportive of the three ring circus going on around him. I just imagine Mahomes pulling off his amazing game winning drives only to go to the bench every time and watch his D give it right back to end the game.

      iN FIRST 50 games, Justin Herbert has set an NFL record with 14 game-winning drives and 11 fourth-quarter comebacks. Meaning he had a game- winning drive 48% of his wins. For context, In the same time frame, Patrick mahomes who has been dubbed the "comeback kid" by some has 6 game-winning drives and 6 fourth-quarter comebacks he has a game winning drive 14% of the of his wins in his first 50 starts. So Herbert in his first 50 starts has 48% chance of game winning drive to mahomes 50 first starts at 14% a whopping 34% difference higher PM **Personally, I have watched his defense lose about 10 others after JH10 drove down and scored, while Mahomes' defense 7TH helped him win his first Super Bowl. Herbert's defense, on the other hand, has consistently ranked 28th, 32nd, 30th, and 27th throughout his career. But ironically it took the Chargers meetup for the Packers to figure things out and for the Chargers to completely fall apart. And i have always liked Herbert as a QB. From his background and him being a chargers fan growing up. But at the end of the day football is a team sport and this season showed that the Chargers were not clicking as a team, and a big part of that was the lack of catches and the coaching. Hopefully this next season will be different and we can see some improvements. Either way i am looking forward to next season

    What really sucks is that the analysts on these sport platforms are former NFL players mostly the QB ‘s. These guys hat on Justin Herbert. They hate on on him because they “SUCKED” when they were active players. He doesn’t get the respect that he truly deserves. Justin is way better than Tua and is more consistent that Burrow. Yet he gets criticized.. Justin with the help of Harbsugh is going to show his fully potential if what he can do.

    Every successful NFL team has a running game that can control the clock when needed ever so often. The team also has a defense that can make plays to stop the apposing team every once in a while. The Chargers have not had either of those since Justin Herbert arrived and he still killed stats. Do not worry Charger fans...the winning is coming soon :). GO CHARGERS!!

    Herbert’s done more than anyone could ask for. He’s broken all time passing records. Only knock on him is he hasn’t won anything important. That’s hardly his fault, his defense has been terrible. He doesn’t play defense though. He can only control what he does passing the ball, and again, he’s been so good he’s broken all time records. What more can he do.

    Yeah, I actually work in pro sports R&D-different sports but seasoned evaluator with the math and with the gut feel. And Herbert is head and shoulders above any QB in the league aside from Pat Mahomes and Josh Allen. Jackson isn’t even close, like Purdy, Tua, Goff, Hurts, he’s a good quarterback with a great system, who fits his coach’s system and game plan well. He just looks and plays differently, and his system operates differently.
    Herbert, Allen, Mahomes, and soon-probably Stroud-have the arms, ball control, and IQ to tear apart virtually any defense they encounter with minimal support. Their legs are as valuable to their passing games as it is to their running game. They present far more problems for the opposing defense to cover than anyone else.
    If were to do it analytically, you’d control for the amount of support their teams give them, and isolate the factors they actually control when evaluating and projecting their performance. Herbert is able to drive down the field, even with minimal support in blocking, running or even receiving. His arm, IQ, processing speed, accuracy and body control help him make a wider variety of throws than anyone besides Allen and Mahomes. His athleticism, size and speed make him elusive and keeps the defense honest. If you have him even a decent pocket, his tools eliminates a chunk of defensive players from being effective against him.
    This generation, it’s Mahomes, Allen, Herbert and probably Stroud who are the real talents who can and will win anywhere.

      Along with what everyone else said it was also an issue of receivers struggling to get open and so much of the passing game having to rely on short passes. When the D is prepared for it they're ready to get their hands up quick and dbacks start creeping up closer to the line in a spot to catch those deflections.

    Everything was good, except when you called Mahomes “the greatest to ever do it”. Just can’t disagree more. The guys has been average to below average in every Super Bowl. He’s had an insane amount of help. Haven’t seen him have to be like Brady or Brees or Montana and drag a team to the Super Bowl/ have those big Super Bowl games with multiple clutch throws. Brady had more in the falcons game alone than I’ve seen Mahomes have in every one of his. It’s usually a lot of below average play, then his team puts him back in it. Or he just doesn’t have to do much because his team has carried him along. He’s obviously way up there and great, but he needs to have that big game in a big game.

But he will definitely get more than he has and he has 3 under 30. He just beat a much better overall 9ers team. Mahomes is the best talent at QB ever. He just doesn't have quite the pedigree of Tom Brady who while great, had a top 10 defense pretty much every year. Mahomes' 2nd Superbowl was the worst Superbowl winning defense in a long time.

He left the Chargers because he aged out for them.
      I don't know how you think Herbert is mediocre. Love and Stroud are getting praise and yet neither broke any of Herbert's rookie records. And Herbert only played 15 games. To be like Herbert, they need to throw 5,000 yards in their second season. W/L is not a QB stat.

    Herbert hasn't ever been top 10 in passer rating in any of his 4 seasons in the NFL. He's good, I'll give him top 10 even and say he's worth his contract and a franchise QB. But top 5? No. And I see no reason to expect him to be considered at top 3 guy in 2024 given his current level of play.

    • @caseyhonigbaum
      @caseyhonigbaum  7 месяцев назад +4

      He has been 11th, 12th, 12th and 13th in passer rating in his first 4 seasons. In 2020 he was 11th with a passer rating less than a point lower than Patrick Mahomes at the 10th spot. This season he finished 13th, one spot AHEAD of Patrick Mahomes. So by your logic Herbert was BETTER than Mahomes in year where Herbert missed 4 games? Using passer rating as the reason why Herbert isn't a top 5 quarterback is quite misguided. Passer rating is a flawed metric in many cases. It doesn't take into account fumbles, sacks or a QB's rushing production. I would look at QBR instead where Herbert has been in the top 5 in 2 of his 4 seasons, so far. Even in a year where he missed 4 games he was STILL top 5. A climb to a top 3 guy is well within reach, especially given his level of play.
