Visma are obliged to change their kit for the Tour de France, as are EF for the Giro, because of the clash with the leader's jersey. For the last few years, they've had a kit with more black, but never a total transformation like this year. I believe all teams are allowed a change-out kit once a season - I notice Alpecin Deceuninck have gone grey for this year's race to promote a shampoo that, ironically, gets rid of grey

    • @jonaspietsch161
      @jonaspietsch161 4 месяца назад +4

I thought this was the case, too. Also, the yellow in their jersey was from the Jumbo branding which they are not using anymore. It's kinda weird that they still kept it for most of the season so far, but I guess announcing stuff around the TdF generates more buzz.

The reason Cube bikes are insanely common in Germany is because they have absolutely nailed building a vast dealer network in Germany to a tee. Go into virtually any unbranded bike shop here and 2/3 of the bikes there will be Cubes. In a lot of shops, a Cube bike is basically the only option if your budget is above hardware store bike and below boutique brand bike. Canyon, Rose, Stevens, Focus or dozens of more artisanal brands are also popular among enthusiasts, but the average German consumer never even comes in contact with them in the first place.

Love the pod guys, World Tour teams can swap their kit 3 (!) times in a season from start of 2024 which is madness as it costs a fortune each time you do it as you generally have to swap helmets, bikes etc so I don't think many teams will be doing that. Regarding lace-up shoes
Laces are more aero if you are into that sort of thing
I find them more comfortable than pad due to having various points of contact that secure your foot, as opposed to 1 or 2 with boas.
Now regarding the need to tighten or loosen.
I race laces ups for MTB, gravel, road, CX and TT, I have never felt the need to tighten or loosen my laces. Get them right and then forget they are there.
Laces expand and contract with your foot, something boas do not do.
Boas tend to loosen when you pull on them, this happens more with off road cycling than road, so of course you have to tighten them. And unlike laces, they don’t expand with your foot as they swell.
As we have seen with MVP at road worlds, various MTB, and CX races, boas break, laces don’t.
Went laced and never looked back.

I'm not entirely sure about this saddle for one big reason -- the revelation I've had in the past 36 hours about Q-factor and stance. I swapped out my beloved Dura-Ace 7810 pedals, with their 52mm crank-face-to-center measurement, for Ultegra PD-R8000E1 pedals, with a 57mm crank-face-to-center, after deciding the Favero Duo-Shi was simply likely to be too much. **Amazing -- my butt does not get numb on the saddle with these pedals**. My legs feel massively far apart like a hurricane could blow up my ass at any minute, but I'm going faster despite allegedly lower VO2 max following a bad reaction to a medication.

Laces in Cyclingshoes work prettey well for me. Although i hate the ends/loops of the laces flying around, thats why i knot the laces maybe once in a month in skateboarding style under the tongue and it works perfectly. I am using my specialized 2FO shoes for over a year almost daily as a bike messenger and never hat any issues with laces and can slip in my shoes by just using my thumb to slide in
For Hailey, always choose easier gears! You can go over 69,7km/h with 50/11 with 120rpm or faster downhill if you pedal hard and fast enough. having a 52tooth chainring just makes you 2,8km/h faster at the same cadence. But having a 1:1 ratio in low gears which means 34t in the back and front instead of 34t in the back and 36 is a much more significant change in terms of how hard you have to pedal. If you keep on regularly spinning out at over 70kmh than stay on 52/36 chainset

re: Electronic brakes on cars ... nah they're still mostly hydraulic. Sure, ABS and Stability Control are computer driven systems to modulate the brakes and keep the car under control, but the pedal is still typically a lever that is directly operating the hydraulics of the brake via the brake booster (a hydraulic amplifier). F1 has 'brake by wire' however (without ABS or stability control systems which are banned), and probably some really high end cars too. But most cars aren't.
Some 4WDs have in-cabin tyre pressure adjustment for when you move off the road onto soft dirt and back.

Cube are massive in Germany. And you get a lot of bike for your money. Got a Cube Stereo. Oh and an Orbea Orca before they were freely available in the Uk and Ireland territories. Paid €3000 for M20i with full Dura-ace back in 2015. An Ultegra M20 was over €4500 back home and UK quoted nearly five grand sterling for mostly Ultegra with a crummy wheel set and it wasn’t even the top carbon frame layup

59:50 Bolt diameter is the same on all 4-arms Shimano cranks (11s and 12s). Also, even tho Shimano says no, on most bikes (but not all), 52/34 chainrings are compatible.

32:13 the picture of the rs4r used is from an article teasing the 2024 pro bike for UAE
speaking of the pro bike for the 2024 season, it does indeed have the 3 enve stickers on both wheels, so I guess the rating is slightly unfair.

    About prototype equipment.
It must be approved by UCI to be used in races, after that it's allowed to be used if will be commercially available within a time frame since the first use (I do not remember if it's a year or 6 months)

Emily is absolutely correct @25:30 when discussing why Visma do a special kit for the Tour de France and the other presenters are wrong. Visma needs new kits for the Tour and have done so in the past because the yellow is too similar to the yellow jersey. Also why EF do it at the Giro, because pink jersey.

Jimmy : electronic brakes don't necessarily mean wireless brakes. Problem with wireless brakes is will connection be reliable. Maybe it will be wired system, like current one with hoses. Keeping battery near brakes maybe is not smart. But for electric bikes, to get power for brakes from main battery is not that hard. Or, for road bikes and mtb's without electric motor, battery for brakes might be housed in levers or any other place. Wireless brakes would be bit iffy, imho, if you keep everything at the brake place. Wireless receiver, some sort of motor for brakes, servo...

Re Cube: Love my Cube Ciclocross bike and my 12 year old Orbea Alma! And on the subject of Cervelo. Do pro riders pay attention to bikes colours in the heat of battle? In which case there needs to be a rule (like football or rugby) where kits are deliberately different to save confusion.
