Omg girl I’m so happy this helped you realize! A LOT of people don’t know about protein overload! Hopefully this helps you manage the frizz and breakage 💕 thank you for watching! 😘😘
3:13 yesss no one talks about this! it's so hard to find products without any protein. people will even make lists of protein-free products and they've all got aloe vera, fruit extracts, lysine, glutamic acid, etc.
I'm experiencing the same. Ultra thin hair, Caucasian, hair is falling out from the root even:( All because I didn't even know this existed and I was doing protein treatments mixed with renpure coconut oil co-wash, for a month... and then the last straw was when I put coconut oil straight on my hair and it instantly turned brittle. Instantly! I ran to the bathroom to wash it off and it's been a month now. My hair is all broken in half, falling up from the roots, dry as hay no amount of oil or water or moisturizer will even soak into it. It was so beautiful before I'd like to offer everybody some serious advice here. Hairdressers don't seem to even know about this or even protein overloads... I'm finding out. I've tried everything deep conditioner with the mask on, apple cider vinegar, clarifying shampoo, all of those things actually made it worse! Switching products did not help. Oil in my hair did not help It actually seemed to make it worse. I finally broke down and after weeks of looking day and night for an answer I decided to try salt in my conditioner. Not only that but I bought micellar water. First I rinsed my hair in the bath with micellar water. I sprayed my hair and then I dumped the rest all from the roots to the ends and I let it sit for 5mins. Then I rinsed it out. Then I proceeded to put my mixture of dissolved Himalayan pink salt (That's all I had) with whatever deep conditioning treatment I had. And I put it in my hair from roots to end again, hopped out of the bath, stuck a shower cap on with the conditioner salt mixture still in. Watch some TV with the blow dryer on the shower cap for about a half an hour. Rinse it out and proceeded with another conditioning treatment to rinse out the salt. Let my hair air dry with some avocado oil. And honestly it is at this point 80% better. I plan on doing it one more time I think it's a freaking miracle ** Expert tip coconut oil mimics protein and prevents you from protein loss. It was the coconut oil for me that really made this happen. Do not use coconut oil if you have a protein sensitivity *** and while your hair is in this fragile state please God don't brush it, Don't touch it, try and soak it in avocado oil during the day and avoid seeing people because it'll at least keep it from breaking and make it a little bit pliable. They have protein in them then **** Sorry guys but there's literally no such thing as something that's protein-free AND without coconut oil. It's almost impossible I've been looking forever. Please do an updated video on how your hair is recovering from protein overload. I’ve been dealing with it for 6 months and my hair is continuously shedding.
I’m finding conditioner is keeping the protein sealed in your hair. The only thing that has been working is washing with the Pantene repair and protect, sulfates are going to be so helpful to get the protein out. I’m skipping conditioning and deep conditioning for a couple of months, and just using water as my moisturizer, spraying my hair during the day and drenching it in water I’m the shower I’m the evening. Conditioner is just going to drive you crazy, skip it for now. I just shampoo once a week.
Thank you for the overload protein tips i too suffer from breakage and hate it, ive been trying to let my hair grow for the longest and now i know why its breaking. your the best heiidy💪🏾
Not only protein, amino acids (protein are made by chains of amino acids), majority of extracts have protein too (like botanical extracts). Examples : coconut fruit extract (found in Tresseme botanique conditioner), Aloe Vera Extract and gel, kelp extract (you can find it in shea moisture raw shea butter shampoo), Marshmallow Root (found in kinky curl leave in conditioner), glycine soya bean extract (Giovanni leave in conditioner), horsetail, hops, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Ascophyllun nodosum powder, and a lot more... Panthenol for example can also act like protein it depends on every hair but I think most on people with thick hair and sensitive to protein already have the most chance to hate it... Also most products recommended that are supposedly protein free, still contain protein which is a big struggle cause people are not aware that they are hidden in extracts or other names, or some of the ingredients react like protein very sad. Unfortunately I still haven't found my holy grail, the best thing that worked for me was Petal fresh conditioner (rosemary honey suckle) but than stopped working after the third try (it contained Extracts and Pathenol...)

Thank you. Your video was very helpful. I can totally relate. After much research, I realised my continuous hair loss/shedding, was as a result of using protein based products and, the strands that remained were straw-like and lifeless. Over the last two weeks I have been deep conditioning with moisture based products and in time, I will cautiously reintroduce protein for balance.
I dont use many protein products, I use mainly a protein shampoo and moisturizing conditioner but I have suffered tremendous hairfall couple of weeks after using that shampoo and my hair is like how you described...
I think one of the shea moisture leave ins as good for a while but I am taking a break from it temporarily and using more moisturizing . I know my rinse outs have some protein but I’m working on balancing it out ,OGX Morocco Argan oil curl cream works best for me:) and I just got a new conditioner!
I recently learned my hair does not like protein. I was actually using a diy oatmeal gel on my hair, leaving it in, and then using conditioner s with protein, then used the blueberry bliss leave in conditioner which is protein. My waves fell straight, hair was full and dry. I used the suave clarifying shampoo and a lot of protein left, my waves came back but my hair was still dry so I am now using Gardiner hydraulonic acid shampoo and the hydraulonic acid conditioner by suave...it's so moisturized, makes my waves limp but I'll do this for awhile to heal my hair from protein overload

Hair Products are properly formulated and tested. Its not common to get proteing overload if you just use the products as instructed. All the aloe, rice water, coconut oil DIY or leaving products on for way longer (like overnight) is what will cause P.O.
I agree that rice water DIY's can be detrimental and cause PO. That is exactly how I got it. However, I would still recommend those suffering from PO to avoid products with protein in them so long as they are in their recovery phase
I was wondering why my hair was always dry even though I was deep conditioning, using leave in, humectants, etc. I went to read the ingredients on all of my hair stuff only ONE of the products didn’t contain protein
O wow thank you sooo much for the info. I have been using protein in my hair for years, no wonder why my hair is always so stiff the first couple of days. Damn....😂
i don’t understand why so many products for curly hair have protein when so many ppl with type 4 hair have protein sensitive hair? 😭😭 thanks for the tips tho!!
Ahh man thank you so much! I didn’t realize my hair doesn’t like too much protein since I don’t have breakage issues/or heat or colour my hair often, so I’ve been using the JBCO leave in and deep conditioner consistently 😭 my hairdresser told me I need to cut it down. I’ll keep the JBCO deep conditioner for once a month use, but the leave in has to go 😂😂 I’ve switched to a moisture based TGIN green tea leave in and my hair loves it a lot more! Just one question... is the JBCO shampoo still ok to use? I find it to be a good clarifying shampoo
Sorry I also forgot to mention my other favourite product to use as a leave in for my low porosity hair is Lotta body coconut and Shea moisture it made my hair look shiny with or without a twist out. The TGIN leave in also seems to work on my hair but the only problem with this product it seem to make my scalp itch after a day. Xx
Itchy? Check the ingredients, maybe there’s something you’re allergic to or do some research to see if other people have experienced this too. Take care of your scalp girl!
I don’t want to throw my products away... I love my shampoo and it’s the only one that works for me 😭 Is it ok to still use the shampoo? It is a strengthening shampoo
Love 💕 the tips and the video, I think 🤔 i may have protein overload, my hair is color treated but it always brittle even if I have moisture in it it feels a little bit brittle
What is a good organic and vegan cleansing shampoo? It is so hard to find products that don't have weird synthetic chemicals and plastics and all this crazy stuff with numbers like PEG-75?? I am in desperate need!! I am realizing now this is why I have been losing so much hair for over 2 years now... I miss my beautiful curly hair 💔 it's nothing like it used to be, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated🙏😢
Hey love! So glad this is helping you. Look into PURADOR - they’re a little expensive but they’re vegan! I recently bought their anti thinning shampoo and conditioner and it feels amazing. I overall feel like my hair is nurtured and clean - may be a placebo effect of knowing it’s vegan haha but also could be that the products are actually really good!
@@GeidilyBeaton I just found this great brand "Anita Grant" , all natural with great prices!! And I found a clarifying shampoo on their website that looks great (I found it in the article you posted in another comment), but I'm still looking for the right conditioner and leave in conditioner, I am not familiar with what would be good for some with protein overload and what wouldn't, do you think there is anything in their conditioners that would keep the protein from coming out, like the shea butter for example? Any answers are so appreciated I'm really grateful for your response!!💌🌻💝
@@luckie.bunnie88 thank you for sharing! I’ll check them out! Hmm I can’t speak for Shea butter... but I know IF coconut is in there - coconut retains protein. Also anything with “glycerin” in it stay away!
Another thing to consider, since searching for protein free products is like searching for a needle in a haystack LOL is looking for products that have these “proteins” at the very bottom of the list.
My hair has been so frizzy lately and super like dry feeling.it’s also been very dull i used a Moisture mask thinking it would help but it looks worse hopefully this video helps. I used the protein treatment from shea moisture and I think I used it to many times. I also have been using the shea moisture cream with protein :( I’m so dumb idk why I kept using more products with protein 😭😭
awww...just figured out I PO (protein overload) 4 over 3 years!!! Pray 4 me as I figure out recovery! (sending u positive prayers with your hair recovery!)
Thank you ! very informative I used to put coconut oil in my hair but my hair would be stiff and I did not know why . I decided to only have a Cantu moisturizer, it says it has water in it ... what do you think ? xoxo 🌹🌹
I did the same thing with rice water my hair feels ruff and I tryed not to get protein overload by putting oils while I was doing rice water but now it’s really dry and it snaps off
Its very difficult to find COMPLETELY protein free products. There is the shea moisture raw shea butter deep treatment mask with sea kelp and argan oil. It doesn't really have protein, although it contains some avocado oil (which some say is protein, however I think it has insignificant amounts of protein), it also has soybean but its the second to last ingredient. It is coconut oil free. Again, completely free products are so difficult to find, but its important that these damaging ingredients are at least at the very bottom of the ingredient list.
I’m going through protein overload and rice water cause it :/ my hair hasn’t been the same since. Which shampoo and conditioner did you use that helped you!
honestly i have been co washing with as i am cowash. I recently bought the PURADOR anti thinning shampoo and conditioner which is organic, but I can't speak on its effect as I have only used it once. Shea Moisture has a low porosity protein free line, check out their shampoo! Also take a look at this article if you'd like: www.coilsandglory.com/protein-free-shampoos-for-low-porosity-natural-hair/ Hope that helps!
So glad I saw this because I was actually looking to switch to a rice shampoo bar to get away from my current products, but that would've just made it worse!!😥
How did you know or what signs did you see when you weren’t suffering from protein overload anymore?? I want to use a mild protein treatment since it’s been a few months but my hair still sort of comes out easily when I comb idk if that means I still have PO or if I need protein to stop my hair from breaking off easily
yea, that's tricky, try to see if its the hair that is breaking or hair that is coming out of your scalp directly. If you look at a fallen hair strand, see if there is a little white bud at the end of the hair -- that's indicative of hair falling from your scalp rather than breaking. If you do have hair buds at the end, this may be a little more serious than protein overload, of course, depending on how severe the hair loss/breakage is.
Oh that's quite interesting. I have never used the Eco styler. Looking at the ingredients, it does have wheat protein so it could contribute to protein overload; I can imagine that in combination with other products that may have protein it can definitely be a cause. Good luck!
Yes omg! My hair gets 0 definition with that gel, I really don’t like it so I just use less than a pea size so the product doesn’t go to waste! Still trying to find the perfect one.
OOooof, just be careful and listen to your hair! MUST wash it out though! Even if you don't experience protein overload, rice water can grow yeast so I would recommend washing it out for sureeee!
These are products that I USED to use and contributed to my protein hair loss. These are NOT products I recommend you use if you have protein overload, but rather products you should set aside for when you recover from the overload.
Way too many products you had going on there... I only use 1 hair mayo, and one scalp oil either a menthol based one specifically for itchy scalp or home blended peppermint, tea tree and coconut/olive/avocado oil... Best tip I can give is use natural oils on scalp and hair mayo on hair (not scalp) and maybe check your diet mayne your low on iron hence the amount of hair shedding... ♥️♥️💪🏽
Thanks for the tips! My lab values are all normal... turns out this is more likely from stress/covid related and probably was set off by the rice water - at least, that is my theory
Apparently, flax seed itself contains 1.6 grams of protein per tablespoon. I'm not sure that this may be enough to make a significant impact on your hair... but if you are experiencing protein overload, stay away from it!!
i literally just bought the strengthen and restore mask by shea moisture and my hair is just so lifeless now😭😭ima go cry for days now

A whole genius in more ways than one. Thank you very much for this information. I had no idea about this!
awe thank you my love!
Super informative video! Can't wait to watch more of your videos!!!
My dumb ass was trying to figure out why my hair was feeling trashy and mushy. DIDNT realize my GEL was the problem!! Fucking GEL!!!
Very thorough video.
Love how you explained everything! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I just did this and all of my products had some type of protein as well. I was suffering with dry brittle dull hair for so long! Not anymore
how did you fix it? which shampoos did you use? i’m panicking
I was wondering why my hair was always dry even though I was deep conditioning, using leave in, humectants, etc. I went to read the ingredients on all of my hair stuff only ONE of the products didn’t contain protein
All the best to your channel! I will be watching.
Thank you!
Wow ! Thank you so much for your knowledge ! The same thing happened to me. Costing my so much money. But I’m happy with what I’m using now. 😄
Glad to help! What are you using now??!
Very well explained 👍 gr8 video

Thank you!
I absolutely loved all the tips! Thank you🙌🏼 Can’t wait for more!
Thank you! 💕
"don't use these" *lists every single product that I use* lol
O wow thank you sooo much for the info. I have been using protein in my hair for years, no wonder why my hair is always so stiff the first couple of days. Damn....😂
You are so welcome!
i use all of these exact same products oh my god no wonder
sis ive got moisture overload so i came here to see the products you said to avoid to maybe get
hahaha! Fair enough!
i don’t understand why so many products for curly hair have protein when so many ppl with type 4 hair have protein sensitive hair? 😭😭 thanks for the tips tho!!
I loved this girl! So beautiful 😍 thank you 😊
Thank you so much!!
Omg can't wait for more vids! This was so helpful!
Love it!!! Can’t wait for more content!!!!!!!!
Thank you love!!! Can't wait to bring you more!
Hey! So glad you found an alternative that works for you! did you still use the shampoo? LMK how its going now.
Great video! Can’t wait to see more from you. Definitely subscribed! 💗
Angel... Que amor. Thank you so much babe
Every product I have has protein and they were so expensive... I can’t believe
Very informative. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. This was very helpful.
So glad it was helpful!
I don’t want to throw my products away... I love my shampoo and it’s the only one that works for me 😭
Is it ok to still use the shampoo? It is a strengthening shampoo
You dont need to throw them away! Just moderation for th protein if you find your hair being brittle and dry!
Thank you so much for the tip. I look at ingredients. 🙏🏾xx
You are so welcome!
Yess Geidily. I love this. 🤗🤗
Thank you!!
Love 💕 the tips and the video, I think 🤔 i may have protein overload, my hair is color treated but it always brittle even if I have moisture in it it feels a little bit brittle
Thanks for sharing! Hows it going now? Did you cut any products out for the time being and see any results?
Great Content
Very good, knowledgeable video for someone so young. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
My hair does not stretch but does not snap and does not bounce back either. Do I have protein or moisture overload?
Do you know if African Pride Shampoo & Conditioner is Protein Free?
Can we use aloe vera ??
@@GeidilyBeaton ahh good to know!! thank you so much love!!💌💕🌸
I decided to only have a Cantu moisturizer, it says it has water in it ... what do you think ? xoxo 🌹🌹
Glad it helped! Can I know which cantu moisturizer you are using specifically?
@@GeidilyBeaton it's the Cantu leave in conditioning cream
I did the same thing with rice water my hair feels ruff and I tryed not to get protein overload by putting oils while I was doing rice water but now it’s really dry and it snaps off
Im sorry.. has it improved?
@@GeidilyBeaton yes it has I use it one every week or two weeks now
So what deep conditioners are there that have no protein?
Its very difficult to find COMPLETELY protein free products. There is the shea moisture raw shea butter deep treatment mask with sea kelp and argan oil. It doesn't really have protein, although it contains some avocado oil (which some say is protein, however I think it has insignificant amounts of protein), it also has soybean but its the second to last ingredient. It is coconut oil free.
Again, completely free products are so difficult to find, but its important that these damaging ingredients are at least at the very bottom of the ingredient list.
Black seed oil destroyed my hair :( I was trying to get it to grow long quickly and did the opposite
im sorry :( hoping its better now!
Adorable 🥰 love ur video🇯🇲
accent is fire😍
I’m going through protein overload and rice water cause it :/ my hair hasn’t been the same since. Which shampoo and conditioner did you use that helped you!
honestly i have been co washing with as i am cowash. I recently bought the PURADOR anti thinning shampoo and conditioner which is organic, but I can't speak on its effect as I have only used it once. Shea Moisture has a low porosity protein free line, check out their shampoo! Also take a look at this article if you'd like: www.coilsandglory.com/protein-free-shampoos-for-low-porosity-natural-hair/
Hope that helps!
So glad I saw this because I was actually looking to switch to a rice shampoo bar to get away from my current products, but that would've just made it worse!!😥
Hi 👋🏾 New and subscribed ❤️🙏🏾
thank you!!
Does flaxeed gel cause protein overload?? I hope someone answer please
Is glycerin a protein
I have had a protein overload with the Eco Styler black castor and flaxseed oil. Did you or someone have the same issue as me? Thank you
Oh that's quite interesting.
@@GeidilyBeaton i think only the olive oil one has protein so I dunno what caused it for them
I was cracking up when you had like 500 products in your hand about to fall over 😂
hahaha! Just trying to keep you entertained 😂
Not me spraying rice water in my hair every month and leaving it......not washing it out.....my hair soft doe🤔
OOooof, just be careful and listen to your hair! MUST wash it out though! Even if you don't experience protein overload, rice water can grow yeast so I would recommend washing it out for sureeee!
Hmmm thanks u soo much
Most welcome
rice is a carb, why would it cause protein overload?
All of the products you reccomended have protiens in them?? Doesnt make sence. One has silk protien right in the name?
These are products that I USED to use and contributed to my protein hair loss. These are NOT products I recommend you use if you have protein overload, but rather products you should set aside for when you recover from the overload.
You didn’t say what products you use 😢
LOVE YOU MAMI 😍😍😍😍🥵🥵🥵🥵
Love you more bella 🥰😘❤️
The ogx shampoo is causing hair loss 😭
OMG and I literally used that :( Is there any link that you can reference me to so I can read about this?! Thank you for notifying me!
@@GeidilyBeaton what would be a good alternative? i’m in good of good clarifying shampoos please

Does flaxeed gel cause protein overload?? I hope someone answer please
Apparently, flax seed itself contains 1.6 grams of protein per tablespoon. I'm not sure that this may be enough to make a significant impact on your hair... but if you are experiencing protein overload, stay away from it!!
