I'm sticking up for Cooksey here. He has been sucking for a while along with the camera work and lets not even mention I usually can't read jersey numbers .... or the horrible sound quality.
I think Stew is equally painful to listen to. He's trying too hard to create a false image. J7 is the kinda guy that would spend the day at the track serious and focused and might never smile even while watching, but because he's on screen, he's gotta sound happy, excited, upbeat, enthusiastic and smile. I think he'd do much better in full blown serious analysis mode. He sounds like an Olympic snowboarder showed up to visit and they want his impressions of the sport.
I like James, but I listen to his podcast and he's a little uneducated too. Makes up a lot of his own words. Sometimes I think he's doing it on purpose, but..... I don't know.
Langston was great with Weege for the outdoor seasons, which is what I prefer watching anyway. The way some of these announcers are practically yelling is cringe. Ralph Sheheen...
Ricky as got more talent on a bike than majority of us but commentating isn't the best Langston was brilliant until they shat on him over the covid situation such a shame for the sport

If you watch replays of old races w/RC in the booth right after he retired it was so much better. He didn't try to act like an announcer, he was just saying a few words from his perspective as a racer that directly applied to JS and CR who he had raced for years. Love him but he's frustrating to hear in the booth, tries too hard imo.
On his podcast with villipoto, he does so much better and is actually very knowledgeable and easy to listen to. But then he opens his mouth on supercross, and it’s like he’s an announcer in the special Olympics.
The other weekend he called kitchen “Eli kitchen” 🤣 I had to rewind that race just to make sure I heard right. It’s insane how often he fucks names up. I could see maybe messing up a privateer who isn’t known but you can’t mess up the biggest names.
The dude never finished school. It’s crazy we are letting a guy who just knows how to ride a dirtbike fast and nothing else announce a live event. He’s great at one thing, but he sacrificed his education and everything you need to be a competent adult in life for his racing and this unfortunately is the result. You also tell he’s trying to stay relevant and has serious insecurities with himself.
Outdoors last year was atrocious! I think he is just uncomfortable in front of the camera way too much! Hence the stuttering, mixing up peoples first names and last names....
I don’t mind Ricky, doesn’t piss me off anyway, but I do miss Emig. Really enjoy Bubba’s analysis when he jumps in the booth too. James does a surprisingly great job live.

I'm a friend of Ricky's you hit the nail on the head. He paid his dues in full to be the goat when Greg Albertyn just absolutely freight trained his head that was like getting knocked out by Mike Tyson 10 times in a month. That's why nobody else bashes him because they know it's multiple concussion issues. Thanks for bringing that to people's attention.

I watched arena cross a couple weeks back… Three announcers. Ping, another guy, and one gal down on the track…it was great and chill! SX could learn a lot from those broadcasts.
I am pretty sensitive to some audible sounds that “trigger” me and I had to literally mute the 250 main because he was sucking on something the entire time. Glad that was pointed out.
I think they need JS in there full time, he kills it’s. Even my girlfriend (who isn’t really a fan of the sport but does watch with me) can’t stand listening to RC talk. She’s told me that if she pays too much attention to the words he’s saying she’ll get a headache lol.
I think it’s important to have the greatest riders still involved in the broadcast, still the face of the sport so to speak. I hated it when Stewart just stopped racing and fell off the public stage completely. Villipoto and Dungey did the same thing. Having the all-time greats there every week brings an authenticity to the broadcast that a good speaker just can’t in my opinion. Ricky’s not a great speaker but the other broadcast members are and that’s good enough for me.

There were several times that neither one spoke and there was awkward dead silence. I was literally talking to my TV for them to say something!!
James Stewart does an amazing job as a color announcer. He's so comfortable with himself and isn't afraid to share his personal point of view, which is great and sometimes pretty funny.

I like your takes on Ricky and see where you are coming from, but being homeschooled my self, and being into many sports like dirtbikes, basketball, and soccer, I don't see why you used probably being home schooled as one of you pionts. I don't mind him really, it's mostly just back ground noise for me I barely listen to them. I focus on the racing, looking at times and positions to see who is moving up and down. I couldn't tell you a single thing he said after the race

In my opinion what makes a good announcer in any specific sport is that he can point out instances of what the racer maybe thinking or why a racer responded a certain way in live time: because in Ricky's case has that experience. It's obvious that those attributes aren't important to Cooksie. Cooksie is just worried about how the words come out not necessarily the message.
I have more of an issue with Will, as soon as she begins speaking I mute it, she shrieks, and always begins with " I spoke to them earlier".....seriously, the girl needs to go back to the land down under and commentate a women's volleyball league.
Aside from all the hearsay.. I really enjoy listening to Ricky charmichal announce races. I like to hear from the GOAT what he's seeing on the track. I did love Fro, David Blair, and Langston too. I've got no problem with Ricky in the booth though!!
Yeah, we have to agree. We NOTICE the bad commentary, so you aren't alone. Some people are just good at this, others are LIKE ME and can't do this. We just don't have that gift for rapid commentary, we forget names, we're looking in the wrong spots all the time, we're just not good at it. But WE KNOW IT. Yes, on Jeff Emig. He was awesome. He was GOOD at it, but had to work extra hard because of his stutter. Yeah, it's TIME for Ricky to stick to running a team or something else. Justin Brayton is a natural at it. And Adam C is going to be fantastic at it one day. He's got that natural gift.

I don't mind him really, it's mostly just back ground noise for me I barely listen to them. I focus on the racing, looking at times and positions to see who is moving up and down. I couldn't tell you a single thing he said after the race
Yup, it’s hilarious watching grown ass dudes crying about this shit non stop. I get why the channel does it. Negative videos are the ones that get major views. But these people that seem like they are watching the broadcast purely just to shit on RC is just funny AF. Bunch of manchilds 😂. I’m watching the race and don’t even hear the announcers. 11mins of complaining about one single dude and these people eat it up lol.
I will listen to the entire video, but anyone who doesn't think RC is the absolute diarrhea craps of announcing, is a dolt.

The things you had to say about RC in the booth made me chuckle, too, Cooksey! I don't think Ricky's completely terrible, but just when I think he's getting better, he says something that puts him back to square one. It's the job RC does that makes me so pissed that Jeff Emig got clipped from the booth, because I FREAKING LOVED JEFF EMIG IN THE BOOTH!!
I'm a little surprised though you left out David Bailey and Denny Stephenson for good TV analysts (just saying). I'd rather have someone out there like Emig or Bailey or Stephenson than Ricky any day of the week!

In my opinion what makes a good announcer in any specific sport is that he can point out instances of what the racer maybe thinking or why a racer responded a certain way in live time: because in Ricky's case has that experience. It's obvious that those attributes aren't important to Cooksie. Cooksie is just worried about how the words come out not necessarily the message.
It's a privilege to view a race with rc.. he isn't the only announcer, so getting the opinion of rc is brilliant
I have more of an issue with Will, as soon as she begins speaking I mute it, she shrieks, and always begins with " I spoke to them earlier".....seriously, the girl needs to go back to the land down under and commentate a women's volleyball league.
Aside from all the hearsay.. I really enjoy listening to Ricky charmichal announce races. I like to hear from the GOAT what he's seeing on the track. I did love Fro, David Blair, and Langston too. I've got no problem with Ricky in the booth though!!

Yeah, we have to agree. We NOTICE the bad commentary, so you aren't alone. Some people are just good at this, others are LIKE ME and can't do this. We just don't have that gift for rapid commentary, we forget names, we're looking in the wrong spots all the time, we're just not good at it. But WE KNOW IT. Yes, on Jeff Emig. He was awesome. He was GOOD at it, but had to work extra hard because of his stutter. Yeah, it's TIME for Ricky to stick to running a team or something else. Justin Brayton is a natural at it. And Adam C is going to be fantastic at it one day. He's got that natural gift.

I'm right there with you! I spend half of the broadcast yelling "shut up Ricky!" He's the worst commentator I can remember. I think Ralph Sheheen and Daniel Blair together would be the best! Love both of those guys' commentary. Anything but Ricky

I hate it when Ricky uses any of these: "uncharacteristic", "hold on to it buddy", "I rather be in 2nd place", "inside, outside".

After watching this video and reading all these comments, I must be the odd one out. I enjoy Ricky on the broadcast. Maybe because I was such a huge fan back when he was racing, I dunno.
Emig is the man considering the troubles he had with speech when he was younger, he must have worked so hard to become so great in the booth! Bring him back .
I passed Ricky on the highway after unadilla this year and my daughter spotted him. He wouldn't even give us a wave he just sped up and totally ignored us.

Cooksey is right. RC isn't showing out for our sport in a positive light. For the sport to progress it needs professionals announcing. He's stumbling all over the place. Let's grow the sport properly.
