Thank-you, just what I had in mind for my chicken yard, I've been using t-bar and plastic snow/garden fence and pulling back my door when I have to go in or out. Well after 2 years it's sagging, so time to do something a bit more sturdy. I had a similar idea in mind but needed a visual to show my husband so he can help build it. I will need to build narrower double gates (need to get my lawnmower through the yard) but it will work perfectly for me.
Nice build 😊 Good idea to let your poles settle for at least a week before hanging a gate on them or alternatively nail in a support across the top to give them support until they settle so the weight of the gate doesn’t pull it in👍🏽
The posts that are in the ground are a treated landscape timber. The gates themselves are 2×4. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Nope. I have had this height fence for 2 solid years now and not had one chicken get in the garden. It is one of the best things I have done for my garden!

This looks so easy & cool! I never made a countersink before but the way you showed me I’m doing it 😄you’re the best and thank you for your help
No problem! I countersink almost all the things I build, just makes for a good tight fit. I am glad I could help!
Looks great! Thanks so much for the idea!
No problem, glad I could help!

No problem at all. Thanks for watching Ron.
How did you get the pole to stand straight up just in the hole?
I packed dirt around it and used the end of the shovel to pack it tight. I hope this helps!
Thank you !
No problem 👍
Thanks! Nice work!
Thank you very much berbrina!
What degree did you cut the corners?
The corners are at 45°
How deep are the post holes?
I would say about three feet

Thank you Carl! Glad to have ya.
Now that’s what I call a nice post whole digger, that’s got to be old. Was it a hand me down or did you buy it?
That was a hand me down from my grandfather! 😀👍
Are those posts 4x4 or are they 2x4 also? Building a dog fence.

how'd you measure that diagonal piece that stabilized the gate door?
I believe that I laid it on top and just traced from the back side with a pencil. I hope this helps.
Will the chickens fly over?
Nope. I have had this height fence for 2 solid years now and not had one chicken get in the garden. It is one of the best things I have done for my garden!
How did you figure out how much wood to buy to make the cross section?
Are you talking about just the angled piece?
I want to follow what you’re doing, but I need to make a 6 foot door that’s 6 foot wide and I don’t know how long the bracing wood is supposed to be
@@GagneFarms Yes
@@GagneFarms I’m guessing in my “ inexperience” to buy 11 feet for the middle 🤷♀️
If it's 6' x 6' then you would need approximately 102"
It's windy at yours it's way winder here in Southern New Zealand it's windy enough to blow the colour out of a tin of paint.
Haha that is funny. I have never heard of that one before. I'm sure you would beat us on the windyness scale.
Nice video thank you!
Some people burn the beam/pole so it will resist the ground's moisture better.
Thank you! I totally thought about doing that as well, for some reason I just opted not to this time. Thanks for the suggestion though!
@@GagneFarms It happens. Greetings!
Woodglut is a good solution for every woodworker.
Finally someone that ran the diagonal brace in the right direction. Bravo brutha great video!!
Thank you sir! Much appreciated.
Should it start from top to bottom on the opening side?
Yeah, that should work!
Thank you!
No problem, thank you!
