I’ve never heard of a FLAT LAY, and now I feel like I want to try it. Thanks so much for the info!
I used to think these looked really silly and unnatural. Now I find them interesting and thoughtful and want to get really good at making flat lays to showcase my art :) Thanks for the tips!
My biggest problem are shadows. I always get shadows of either the camera and/or myself when taking a picture at a slight angle or directly over my setup.
Post editing with where you can adjust and remove most shadows.
Clarissa Valencia Hi! If you do what she says, and put your layout next to a window, using natural light, it helps a lot. You stand on the other side of the layout instead of between the window and the layout. If you are standing on the other side, your shadows will be behind you, and not on the layout.
Deborah K-h if that is an option but it’s not always , I have only my room to work with and it has VERY LITTLE natural, it’s not useable
Totally understand, Clarissa!
my problem too! Maybe we have to photoshop the shadow out?
Thank you for breaking this down so nicely! Now I need to go practice styling flatlays. ☺
This just made me want to pick up flat-lay photography as a hobby
Thanks so much for creating this and sharing your expertise! I'm needing to know how to do flat lays for my day-job (and obviously it's good to know for personal use as well!), so I'm anxious to get this goin.
Thanks. it is helpful for those needing a little fresh eye for flatlay.
Waaah this is the best tutorial flatlay that I see on YT. I just bought medium light box for my bookstagram pic. But never take pic bc I dont know how to arrange my propS. This is really couraging. No mistake, just have fun! 😍
this was a great video, kinda exactly what I needed to watch. Some great tips Thanks :)
Best video I´ve found on this
If you or your camera is casting a shadow it means your lighting is the wrong place, most probably above and behind you. It needs to be coming from above and in front of you, or from a above and to the left or right side.
Jei Esterline Thank you!

Enjoyed the inspiring video to learn to be a better photographer. What is the ideal size of the background board you lay everything on for Instagram quality flatlays? Does the size of the background vary depending whether you're photographing with a smartphone or DSLR camera? Thanks!
Hey, thank you for this beautiful video! Very informative.. Would like to know which lens you are using? I struggle a lot with 50mm
