- Today we go over how I dual purpose use my 2021 Grand Design 398M toy hauler with its 18' garage for track car duty and at the track home base. Full inside and out review of loading and at the track setup.

Thanks for the tour. Next time you have the car on your lift can you show us how you are J-hooking onto the chassis and what the ends of the straps looks like? I currently go through the wheels and your method may be better.
Great review and nice setup!
I have a 2020 Fuzion 429 is use for sportbike trackdays. Awesome video. I had no idea that the TH was even weight rated to haul a car, let alone the ramp door rated to support your track car. What’s the weight on your car?
Cant hide money! Enjoy bc you cant with you when you go! Nice setup
Great review and video I've been looking for, brilliant. I'm looking to buy a TH to live full time in and take my MG TF and Ducati 916 with me. I've been looking State side as i think buying there and shipping to the UK is my cheapest option. So wondered if you have any pointers or links to race car trailer sites worth looking at. Or private sales? Rgds... Spike...
How’s the break over angle with the car going in? I’ve dabbled with this idea but always though I’d bottom out going in
I've been looking for a toy hauler to do what you're doing but I decided on the ATC Game Changer Pro. What's the payload on that Grand Design? My parents have a grand design and their payload is only about 3000lbs. Any issues when you tow because of the tongue weight? One of the selling points of the ATC for me was the almost 8000lb payload and of course the almost 30' garage. Really nice setup

Did you get the Atc? I’m also going towards atc 4528. If so, what are your impressions on your rig?
I was also wondering how the sw 350 does pulling that 20k triaxel. I was under the impression that once you move up to a rig that size you deffinantely hit dually country.
Dusky is preferred indeed but I have had no issues with the SRW
Will the garage part fit a normal sized sedan? Like without the toolbox and tires and extra stuff
Fit yes, but the ramp is only rated for 3,000lbs
I would like to hear somebody's experience that has actually been loading their trailer down like this for a couple of years and making numerous trips with it loaded down like that my belief is that trailer won't last one good season without starting to fall apart
This is my second season with this trailer almost 20,000 miles not a single issue.
You're probably tired of answering all the questions about your rig. I am looking at buying this same trailer after watching your vid. There aren't a bunch of good options at this price point for hauling a race car around. How much does your race car weigh? I am looking to haul an E36 ~3k lbs with similar tools (minor) and same number of tires. The best alternative I can find is the ATC PLA 700 but they don't even hold a candle to the 398m on the luxury front.
How/What did you do to be able to tow with your lifted truck?
I have a f250 on a 4” lift with 37s and plan on trading my TT in for a 5th wheel but have been pretty much told I need to lower the truck in order to be able to tow a 5th wheel.
The lifted truck here is bad idea. Higher center of gravity, worse gearing for power, worse braking (more leverage on brakes), also heavier, worse mpg, and finally higher trailer height are some of the negatives. If the suspension is softer this is also bad for handling. If it is stiff it will ride worse than stock. There is a reason semis are low to the ground and stiff.
How much does your car weigh? The weight distribution doesn’t seem good
Did you install air bags in your 350 p/s? With all that weight. Thanks
Yes truck has airbags. I run 30PSI just to level out the rear end.
Have you weighed it all. Wonder what the pin weight is? Are you overloaded on the truck. Nice setup.
I was thinking the same thing. That trailer has a 20K LBS GVWR and weighs around 15k LBS empty. That truck in the best configuration is only rated at 18.5k LBS tow (Regular Cab 4x2 Long Box). All short box crew cab configurations 2x4 or 4x4 cap out at 16.5K LBS tow (Crew Cab Short Box 4x2 with 24,100 GCWR). If stopped it doesn't matter what it actually weighs as the GVWR of the trailer is over the Max Trailer weight of the Truck. I went long box dually for this specific reason as I have a 20K GVWR trailer as well.
Actually those ratings above are from a 250. Being a 350 in this video the ratings do jump. www.ford.com/cmslibs/content/dam/brand_ford/en_us/brand/resources/general/pdf/guides/18RV&TT_Ford_SuperDtyPU_Nov27.pdf Page 6 outlines the configurations.
Truck has a 20,600# 5th Wheel/Gooseneck tow rating and a 28,700# GCVWR which is within the limits for this trailer.
@@plmotorsports6076 Glad to hear that. Stay safe. I was looking at getting this exact model trailer at one time. Went a different route but still a 20k gvwr trailer . Bad ass setup you have there.
How big a lift is on your truck?...mines lifted and im looking at a 5th wheel seems to sit on yours good
6” with 37’s but I used a goose box and adjusted to to get it level.
@plmotorsports6076 wicked thanks that's how mine is also ..I'll go with the same setup I have the gooseneck hitch already
what is your payload cap?
3500#
How long is ur car inside the toy hauler ?
Toyhauler garage is 18' long, car is 14.5'
40 gallons of water will last 3 days? Is that including a shower?
Shower every night. Just very very quick showers I don’t use a lot of water.
How well does your truck pull that? No need for a dually?
Truck pulls it fine, dually would be preferred
Truck does not seem to be rated for that trailer. Will it work, sure,. Big issue if you ever get stopped or worse yet in an accident as insurance will not cover you if your truck is not rated to pull your trailer.
How long is it?

@@plmotorsports6076 and the ramps are they for support underneath or to extend
Race ramps are they to extend for a better approach angle.
@@plmotorsports6076 awesome thanks
