I think the largest thing missed here is battery life in the review. The new ultra series Intel processors are supposed to be remarkably more efficient and the largest change should be battery life.
considering the 106C temperature that was shown in this video..i wouldnt call this efficient nor it has improved battery life.
Apparently can survive 14 hours of light use, and 6 hours of harsh use.
sill cant touch apple
@@shaun1900 that's not the thing here lmao. last year's 13th gen cpu wouldn't even do 3 hrs on heavy load. we want good battery life on windows too. it doesn't matter whether it will beat the mac or not. we just want a good improvement in battery life as it's the biggest problem windows laptops are having.
@@oogwaythesussyturtle like I said it still cant touch apple - Battery life being one of those areas it falls Windows falls miserably short.
I need the same in 15.6/16" borderless with this awesome 120 Hz Oled touchscreen
fr they just refuse to make them for some reason
their 2023 studiobook has a 16 inch 120 hz oled touchscreen. they'll probably give the 2024 model that as well.
@@TheSonoranSniper It's a bit thick. Lile my actual 16.1" laptop is 1.6kg. I would like to have 15" for 1.4kg
@@PureshowGaming
what's the point in wanting a thin and light laptop, if it takes so much space?
@@TheSonoranSniper Space doesn't matter in a backpack, you only feel the weight
This is such a great review!
The warm, honest, and upbeat outlook makes everything look perfect and flawless!
This laptop, ignoring the 14th gen is actually really good. I wonder how I haven't noticed this before. This will be perfect for students and it will be a MacBook Air killer!
Do you know if it allows to virtualize using Virtualbox?
@@piperin1620 No, The 155H is the only Intel processor since the 2005 Pentium 4 (662/672) series to not support virtualization.
That's definitely a thing that happened and it's definitely something Intel did.
I'm a Data science Student and Honetly felt very overwhelmed since we didn't have a decent Windows device (I mean overall) and this series seems a decent leap; wished I could get my hands on this unit to try it out since lots of my friends ask me what to buy ( up until now it was MB all the time ) sadly the single core score haven't really changed and not sure if this affects battery or not ( sure if the chip uses less battery it sound like an upgrade anyways but the fact that most of the tasks are on the web nowadays having a single and optimized single core usage will be great!
Same bro still looking for a nice windows laptops with optimized battery life and performance. But there is no proper option except macbook unless you do not run ML DL models in cloud((
Found it : Asus Rog zepyhrus g14 2024
@@hmatinnn have you heared fan noise on this laptops?
@@navidabasi Yeap. It can be noisy unless you push cpu gpu too much. I know i only buy laptop for my professional career not gaming. In career sometimes ml,dl models thats it. Just wanted to have some power and portability on local machine not in the cloud
I'm a big fan of glossy screens, makes a huge difference in visual quality. Hopefully a growing trend
Agreed, I only look for touchscreen laptops solely because those ugly plastic edges with matte displays and non-touch are so damned ugly😭
If you use them indoors, then glossy for the win. If you use out and about then non-glossy is better.
Same
For movies gloss might add some contrast but questionable for word-processing, data work, and spreadsheets because the glare can be hard on the eyes.
@@Wisdom7I only if you don't control the ambient lighting. As I can partially close the curtains it's not an issue for me. But if you work in an open plan office I could understand your view
Glossy screens can add more contrast for movies but hard on eyes and not as easy to see screen clearly for spreadsheets and word-processing. Touchscreens seem to add more glare. If don't need a touch screen, Dell has non-touch options with screens that are comfortable for long-term viewing and easier to read.
IT has a non touch alternative, i bought one. Screen doesn't represent a problem for me, i work all day on excel, cad and structural softwares (3D mostly) and it's been good.
This is i am waiting for, but need in 16 inch with 100whr, and enable open the laptop with one finger, chassis made with aluminum alloy
I was hoping to see some benchmarks on battery. And a fair comparison between Macbook on Battery vs this on Battery
That's because it's just an ad.
It’s a pre production unit. I didn’t feel comfortable running battery tests on this one yet
@Thetechchap
Yes
He won't show how bad it is when it's sponsored
MacBook smashes it . Already other RUclipsrs tested it
I think the 2 ultra low power cores when web browsing or watching videos is huge
Hey Chaps! What laptop do you use (and will you be upgrading soon)?
UPDATE - I'll be testing battery life fully in a future video with a final review sample. There were multiple driver updates during my testing in this video (and a pre-production model), so I didn't feel comfortable giving thoughts on battery. Although I think it'll be fairly similar to previous gen
I use an M3 MBP and forget Intel..
I use a calculator
Sure. An x86 cpu with arm cpu efficiency but also performs great at gaming. Intel meteor lake is on my shopping list for sure.
M2 MBA
If there is not a 15.6'' at least its DEAL BREAKER !!
I’d take this when performance is certified stable and in a surface pro 9.
I don’t need a space age computer but I do need better battery life!
Thanks for this first look much appreciated! Keep the great content coming 👍🏾
And that Surface 10 has a funky OLED instead of that dated (if well calibrated) IPS screen.
@@Havanu81 I’ve only had the surface pro 9 for a year and even though it’s 8GB. I quite like the screen and form factor. Not the most powerful but it’s getting the job done and faster it seems than the surface pro 6 I had with 16GB RAM as well as my surface laptop 4 with 16GB RAM.
I am trying to stay level headed but now you said the 10 may have OLED…. I have to try hard not to be tempted to upgrade. I try and keep machines for 5 years but this is the first time in a while I was silly enough to only get 8GB! Doh! Works fine though. Just bad battery.
Thanks for the comment
I have the 8 myself and I love it. But just a little less since I got an Asus 14pro with an OLED. That thing has spoiled me. Microsoft should take a page from their book I feel.@@RemofRenaissance
Any "Surface" brand product is dead to me because of Microsoft's deliberate anti-repair engineering and direct refusal to sell parts online.
What good is stability if the battery (or any part) suddenly dies right after warranty expiration and now you have to shell out an extra $1k for "authorised seller" replacement?
@@lars2894 I agree. I’ve had mainly only for work. The pro 9 is the first I ever purchased for myself and coincidentally it actually has a good repair grade as in this is one of the first considered easy to replace parts yourself. Also since the Pro 8 you can easily change the SSD. It’s like changing a SIM card.
It’s not the most powerful but I like the form factor. As mentioned it’s just that blasted battery life that is an issue as well as expensive Ram
Hope they release the flip version of this soon. I was going to buy the existing model, but the new iGPU looks great.
When black friday was around I was very close to getting the previous gen version of it since it dropped in price quite a bit. I did some research and saw it didn't really game very well. Now I'm not wanting to play AAA titles on a laptop (I would get a gaming laptop if that was the case) but a laptop capable of at least playing something like Honkai Star rail smoothly.
just build a PC, it's cheap and more efficient than a laptop if you can game in your home
@@vegitogogita531 I got a gaming desktop already. Just want a laptop to do my work on away from home when I'm travelling. I'm also a light gamer so if this can game as well then even better. A gaming laptop is just too heavy and bulky.
@@ragingsilver ik this is a late reply but the laptop can perform decently well on games like fortnite, valorant (its well optimised), league of legends. Fortnite i saw a video on was like 60+ fps and just remember that the zenbook 14 OLED has 120hz and optionally u can set it to 60hz which can probably boost ur performance.
The main difference between the chip lineup 3:30 - Ultra 9 185H, Ultra 7 165H & Ultra 5 135H are equipped with vPro 'Enterprise' and have slightly higher clock speeds when compared to Ultra 7 155H & Ultra 5 125H
What does clock speed mean?
@@joshua_here5849 Speed of the processor (measured in GHz)
@@kn_465 so ultra 7 is weaker than its counterparts?
@@joshua_here5849 I'm comparing the different variants of processors in the tagged comment. You might want to read it again...
I'm looking forward NPU's being fully utilized by software. Image generation is super slow right now with all the processing done in the cloud. You either have to wait in a queue, use daily allotted credits, or pay for a service, which is still slow compared to what we'll be getting on device. I know AI image generating is controversial, so I feel like I should clarify, I've been using it to create a picture I have pictured in my mind, then I attempt to draw it by hand as my "own" artwork. Until I'm a good enough artist to make these pictures without AI, it's been super handy.
I needed a laptop , thanks to you're video i bought thé same brand laptop but with I9 processor .
Also thank you for making other tech video's aswell , much appreciate it and love your content.
Greetz from Belgium!
Hey man
Im looking to buy one with the i9 and it would be great to get your opinion on it
@@propenguin8948 i have Mike for 2 monthes now and im Very satisfied with it. It's Very fast and snappy and good for gaming and editing and it's light weight so so far no complaints 👌🏻
Watching from a Zenbook 14 OLED with Intel Core Ultra 9, i got 37,000 geekbench 6 gpu test plugged in and 27,000 on battery along with 1600 single core and 10,000 multi core, my biggest doubt was the build quality of the main chassis with the keyboard and trackpad, its nothing like the macbook which was my prevoius laptop but it is still very good and would deffinetly buy again!
Intel’s strategy: first make their graphics processor a total garbage for several years, then the next year they double the performance 😊
I wanted to buy this laptop, but I read a lot of reviews that it needs to change the thermal paste every month. Otherwise, the processor heats up to 100 degrees and just clicking the mouse takes 3 seconds. It seems I'll have to get an Air 3
Asus are smashing it at the moment with design! I love the look of their new laptops, and those OLED screens 🤤
Geekbench number looks like my laptop based on the AMD 7940HS only the Intel single core number is a bit lower. On multicore and OpenCL they look comparable.
Stay with the AMD. Intel is using chiplets that AMD has been using for years. This processor is very misrepresented. Some 13th generation models have better specs than this.
What is the difference between ZenBook and vivobook still don't know the difference?
You got the same tables for Intel U and H series at 3:33..I guess unintended?
Came here to say the same, it took me a while to realise both sides were identical
Glossy screen shouldn't be a complaint considering glossy screens offer objectively superior image quality. And the majority of laptops and monitors are matte so you can go for literally anything else if you want to pay for a nice panel and then reduce its saturation, contrast and sharpness just to make reflections blurrier (but not non existent)
Thinking of getting this one for my wifey, with 155H/32GB/1TB, 2.8K OLED being the key here as she is into photography. Myself I got the EliteBook 835 G10 7840U/32GB/2TB Samsung 990 Pro with FHD which is sufficient for me, but business class matters more.
Love the privacy shutter...i'd like the microphones to do the same.
uhh the camera has a physical shutter, I'd be impressed if they were able to make a totally soundproof ones for the mics
Would you recommend this over the Zephyrus series for video editing ? How is battery life ?
For vid editing, go with a laptop with dedicated graphic card not integrated
Is it good for video editing? Currently looking for a laptop which is able to show good performance in DaVinci Resolve and was wondering if this machine could provide me with that
If the camera is so bad at studio light…. Can’t even imagine how bad it is in the usual room
I love my Zenbook 14X OLED 2023
Me too.
Can this beast really last an 8-hour shift on a single charge?
I'm in the market for a new laptop, and the ZenBook series caught my eye. I was thinking it would be great if you could create a video comparing the various ZenBook variants. Surprisingly, I haven't come across such a comparison online yet. It could be a valuable resource for others like me who are considering a ZenBook purchase.
I'm curious as to how this laptop compares with other Lenovo 14" laptops that came out this year or last year.
Good initial preview.
The availability of Asus laptop models is very shaky, even in the US till date. There models and naming are all over the place. Normally ZenBook's are advertised as having the number pad, and some of the models in US are missing the feature. Also, very recently Costco was selling a similar model as shown in this video but with Intel 13th Gen, advertised as to be having an OLED display, but ended up having an IPS display.
Asus has a very good line up of products, but there supply chain is still in the shammers!!!
And 155H is successor of 13700H, not 1360P, I know this channel is not Honest anymore, and I guess the last it has been honest is 2 years ago, Dell XPS 12th times!
RIP Tech Chap
This is a great review so much detail. I need a new laptop but cannot afford this. I have an old legion but it keeps turning it's self off, or restarting. I am in a meeting at work ( I work with terminally in children in my home) and it could just cut out. It is so embarrassing and looks like I have no IT skills. After your review this is my dream laptop. I have decided to subscibe so thank you.
Tom: Would you go for a Macbook or a Zenbook?
Cat: Where is my food human!
Great review, The Tech Chap. A lot of other people are having problems with software and drivers. Hopefully things will improve as this processor did not live up to expectations. I have read there is a i7 165h out there somewhere. Cheers.
it is like comparing 4 cores cpu to 8 corescpu laptop. Of course there will be double ammount of performance.
But it’s in the same/similar chassis - the new architecture has allowed them to do more in the same space. So that IS the upgrade
@@Thetechchap100% true
Does the neural chip help with auto masking in Adobe lightroom? I have this laptop on the way and excited to put it into use.
No doubt about the looks and sleek design.
Waiting to see how the world is going to use the NPU.
I'm using it for brain surgery.
6:04,why dont you show AMD numbers ? INTEL caught up with AMD this time .
I really love the 60fps videos!
What I’m kind of surprised by are those Geekbench 6 and Cinebench scores… They still don’t surpass the M1 Max Apple Silicon chip and. that came out 3 years ago…
Huh? Using Geekbench 6 test results:
- M1 Pro Multicore score of 10,745
- Intel Ultra 7 155H mc score of 12,548
That is roughly 17% better performance.
Even for the M1 Max, the Geekbench 6 score are:
- M1 Max 12,715
- Intel Ultra 9 185H 13,982
Roughly 10% better with Intel.
Thank you for being one of the only creators that i watch who shoot in close to 16:8 ratio
Glad you like it! I like 2:1
@Thetechchap thanks friend, means a lot
Nice! Excited to grab a new Meteor Lake laptop soon. Looks like winds of change are in the air again. Seems Intel is back in the drivers seat and it’s pretty refreshing to see.
Just wait for proper reviews pls. From other early reviews and Intel's strange marketing, it's not as good as it may seem. Try to check Jarrod's Tech review where he compares battery life.
You should wait for proper reviews. Some one has pointed out that zenbook 14 retail unit has much slower ram compared to reviewers unit and still did not beat amd not in all test
Excellent review but you did not say anything about the Battery Life! can you please have a quick continuous Video Play test and advise? thank you.
I'll come back to this with a full review sample, not pre-production
This would feel like it dropped from heaven if this had a 360 degree screen rotation
I was about to get a Lenovo ThinkPad from my company as we mostly use it, but I managed to convince my boss that I needed a laptop with more oomph. Subsequently leading to my boss buying exactly the one reviewed here. :)
The very first thing I noticed is the fingerprints...right out of the box 😂😂
edit: I HATE the ginormous stickers these laptops come with. All those specs are already written on the box, or on same spec sheet, or in windows. Why do they keep sticking those huge ass stickers right next to the trackpad is beyond me. And no, those stickers are on every piece, not just the review unit.
Those stickers are what kept the price down and attainable, you can just peel em rather than complaining about it or to buy it higher price if the stickers isnt there. Life is simple dont complicate it 🤷🏻
Literally 15 seconds and 10 ml of 99% isopropyl alcohol will fix your issue with the stickers.
No recommendations on how to fix your "brain", though.
I was gonna grab the ZenBook 14x with the i5 13th gen, but now I'm thinking I might hold off for the 14th gen. Is it a smart move? 🤔💻

M3 GB6 Single Core: 3138
M3 GB6 Multi Core: 11'889

why aren't there any Ultra 9 185H laptops been sent out to reviewers. company's always show the best chip right ?
The only problem with zen books is they still use physical touchpads. I can’t go back to using them after using MacBooks. But I now use a Surface Laptop Studio instead, which has a haptic touchpad that is almost as good as the Macbooks!
Sounds like a pro than con to me.
16x has a haptic touchpad
Does the Oled touch screen have the screen door effect like previous models ?
“And the very first thing you will see is….the size.” Expecting him to say finger prints.
I want this : ) only waiting for the i7 version on the market. AND of course no touch screen!
Why no mention of battery life? Compared to M3? Thanks.
Do you know when it will be available to buy in the UK?
