Walter- "...there is technology which can better the odds of this deadly race. Soybeans into meat..." He was talking about the race between population growth and the amount of nutrients available. Plant based meat made from soy and other plants is a reality here in the 21st century. Unfortunately, it hasn't yet brought about the end of animal agriculture.
At about the 13 minute mark, Walter says that soy could be used to replace the protein from meat. "By the 21st century, the experts think that we cannot afford not to." Those experts were right! Studies show that we could feed a lot more people and use a lot less resources by replacing animal agriculture with plants. It would also go a long way toward solving the climate crisis. We would need a quarter of the land which would allow us to grow a lot more plants including trees to capture CO2.
After that, someone is interviewed who predicted factory farmed animal agriculture. He predicted housing farm animals in tall buildings, but he was basically right about factory farmed animal agriculture. He wrongly predicted that the nutrition produced by micro organisms would be fed to farm animals. We are now using precision fermentation to avoid the need for animal agriculture to produce nutrition for humans without factory farms.
Based upon a sampling of these programs, none of the dire predictions came true. Interestingly places the current doomsday predictions in perspective. Memento mori.
We have never grasped this issue well. There was then and still is enough food produced on the planet to feed everybody. It's unequal economic resources, and too much militarization that cause world hunger.
@@someguy2135 You're right generally, but just ending all forms of animal ag right away could have unintended and possibly disastrous consequences. The factory farming methods of corporate conglomerates must end, but there are individual producers who raise animals for food in ways less destructive to the planet. Of course, they are still destructive to the animals. I eat a strictly plant-based diet. But making that obligatory for everyone all at once would not be a good idea.

They're still around. Under the name Dow now, though, because of Bhopal.
@@BlueBoy0 Union Carbide helped reduce hunger in Bhopal. In December 1984, thanks to them there were about 4,000 fewer hungry people in that city. :(

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Says Al Gore.

To feed the larger population of the future, we need to end the extremely inefficient, dangerous, and destructive system of animal agriculture.
