The manager was absolutely faultless. Taking off Mainoo, and Garnacho when we’re 3-0 up was absolutely the correct decision 100% of the time. They are young and need their loads managed, and are the first names on the team sheet. The fact we collapse without them is a damning statement on the quality of the squad, and not even close to a managerial issue

Thanks for not being a reactionary rant channel AJ, I agree with the exposing the players for a long term improvement of squad theory, but bigger problem is that big name players not rising to the occassion, any manager, would put the onus of winning the FA Cup semi final and maintaining the lead on the experienced players of the squad, and they didn't, Rashford, Eriksen, Casemiro, Bissaka should be given responsibility to take on the cup semi final, why would the manager put that pressure on youngsters? Players he took off like Mainoo and Garna, or even McTominay who came back from injury needed break, but it's these senior starting 11 players who need to take the responsibility of messing it up when they didn't need to, Bruno, Dalot were the more experienced permanent starters who were the only legs remaining, shows the absolutely bad state of fitness of the players. We need to acknowledge the bad state of the squad. Ten Hag has been handling a squad that has a very limited starting 11, he brings a plan for them, when he needs to replace players due to injury or substitute the fatigued ones, or because of the changes opposition makes, there is literally no effective defensive option in the team to counter those changes, he is barely creating a rest defence with Casemiro Maguire and Bissaka as a left back, with Erikson as only option for deep lying midfield on bench, and after even setting them up to get a 3-0 lead, they have enough players in squad to commit stupid mistakes and lose it, and sadly most of them are experienced players who should take the onus

You know what is my biggest concern with ETH? Despite all the injuries, despite the lack of relevant personal, despite bringing in assistant coaches that ETH has previously worked with, despite nearly 2 years passing, our players cannot do the basic.
I'm not even talking about tactics here, I am just referring to the players ability to make a solid 5 yard pass to a teammate in the opposition's half. They just cannot do it.
Sometimes the pass is so poor, you start questioning who was the pass intended to. Other times they pass the ball in such a way where you wonder if they have been playing professionally at all. They pass it into a congested part of the pitch instead of finding the space where players can run into. The decision making of players who make a pass is so poor, you wonder if the coaches and ETH has picked up on that. Nearly 2 years now and the players still can't pass keep the ball and build up play to open up the opponents. (Man, we have travelled so far from the days when players like Scholes and Carrick controlled the play. Even wingers would know when to keep the ball and when to run at their man.)
You mentioned that first half we played well, maybe I haven't been watching every single game this season due to my busy schedule hence, my expectations have not been lowered to what is deemed decent, but I was just disgusted by just the passing of players.
Now without only pointing fingers at ETH, I need to know if these players have been coached in passing. If they haven't been, then ETH must really be not thinking right. If they have been coached, then maybe, the players just can't do it. They can't pass well, they don't seem to have a good chemistry or have not been forced to press together in training as a team. I really don't know what is going on here and I am equally confused.
There are people who are saying ETH is deluded in his comments saying that united played well etc even when we aren't, but I don't know how else is he going to handle it because if he starts throwing players under the bus at this early stage of his career, they will. Just stop playing for him as they did under Jose. He has to remain positive because he is the face of the club and that is his job, to remain upbeat in the news regardless of the results. So credit to ETH for showing those PR skills.
However, tactically ETH should be aware by now which players can and cannot pass/ press as a team. With that instead of presisting with those players who can't, why doesn't he play other players who might show more willingness? Maybe he knows the players on the bench are equally as bad. In such a situation, shouldn't he just drop to a low-mid block and play the style the players are adept in playing in while slowly up hauling the team each transfer window, and only change tactics when 80% of the first team are capable of playing in the style he wants them to play?
I'm just going to wait till the end of the season to decide if he gets to keep his job even if he wins the FA Cup (Which currently seems like a dream).

The 3-0 scoreline flattered Utd, Kitching left the cross for Collins instead of clearing it and Collins missed the ball to leave McTominnay an easy tap in. Maguire got a rare goal from a set piece and Bruno's goal was deflected in. I didn't feel Utd had really got things going because they had not needed to and could not raise their game after Cov's changes. It is not the manager's fault if the players cannot keep a 3-nil lead against an opposition like Coventry City (with all due respect to them). It is not on the manager if senior and experienced internationals cannot make a 5-yard pass, ping the ball among themselves, or duck out on one v ones. I am not by any means defending ETH (he's had his own mistakes) but bring in any other manager and we'll be back here in two years time calling for the manager's head. To all those saying bring in RDZ or Julian Nagelsmann or Thiago Motta, keep in mind that these managers work in a settled structure. Nagelsmann worked well at Hoffenheim and Leipzig because there's already a structure in place that allows the manager to concentrate on instilling his tactics into the players. Same for Motta at Bologna and RDZ at Brighton. Manchester City had to prepare for about three years prior to Guardiola's arrival by bringing in Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano. It says a lot about the quality of the squad that taking out two teenagers, who by the way need to have their loads managed, will lead to an almighty collapse. It's not ETH's fault that Utd paid 90m euros for Antony or 70m euros for Casemiro. Fans should get it into their heads that not all signings will work out. It's not his fault that we've had 65 separate cases of injury and or illness this season. It's not his fault if the players cannot make a 5 yard pass. Guardiola's made some questionable buys in his time at City but nobody brings that up because he's getting results. If it were Utd who had spent 100m pounds on Grealish or 100m pounds on Josko Gvardiol or the 60m euros on Matheus Nunes or the signings of Claudio Bravo, Nolito, Jovetic, Mendy, Danilo and Ferran Torres, the fanbase, the press and the ex players would have a meltdown calling for the manager's head. Guardiola hadn't stepped a foot in Manchester when he demanded that Joe Hart be sold cos he doesn't fit his style of play. The same Guardiola has axed out Sane, Toure and lately Cancelo and not one City fan has complained about it but the Utd fanbase were in a meltdown when ETH axed DDG and Sancho. It's become evident that these players or primadonnas do not have what it takes to play for Utd. Ship them out and get players that are willing to run themselves into the ground for the badge. We've had Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solksjaer and now ETH so it can't all be on the manager.

The thing is, ten Hag is as capable as most good coaches available in market for roles of this scale, but we haven't improved the depth of quality in the squad in years, now, would one again go in a cycle of getting a new manager, again just make few changes of starting 11, again give a new manager to start from scratch, again go through new manager's demands and convert some of the last managers latest signings into latest Deadwood on big contract? Or, stick to the manager, send a message that managers won't be scapegoat anymore, focus on improving depth in squad, steadily and strategically remove wrong players accumulated over the years without making it an experience less squad like Chelsea's, establish young academy players under a manager who is already known to do that, focus on improving club infrastructure, and let manager be a stable part while the backroom and infrastructure is getting fixed, and move to the next manager when a very clear proven upgrade is in the market? You still have a manager who has shown that he has won 3 back to back titles in a relatively big well functioning club within a competitive European league. It's United as the club that is not in such a high performing state, look at the quality of running Overmars and Van de Sar did. They are struggling without this trio right now, is the club having that level of Trio or backroom of that level to demand similar output from any manager?

Even though man utd played so bad in second half but i cannot say, as a football expert, that Coventry deserve to be leveled. most i give is the 3-2 score to man utd, for the off side to be on. the other 2 goals was just fluke and lucky, deflection & armpit penalty wtf is that. they have some luck with those 2 its good that man utd got some luck with the off side. iamgine being in wan bisaka shoes to be responsible for super deflection, penalty & palying the offence onside LOL. poor guy. we had 3 good chances to win it at extratime. with that being said, i will say again for the past 2 weeks: ETH OUT. and i have been saying all season: I HATE HOJLUND, cant even score (or shoot) at 6 yards out mf. garnacho wasnt as bad as last game but why sub him out for antony?! rashford is the one should be subbed. i so want antony to do good, i was happy he came on but, sell him. mr back passer. sell the brazillians including casemiro. thank you for playing defence but he is old and miss penalty, bye. this sub is strike 1 for ETH, strike 2 is making changes at 60th minute. that was the last minute man utd was 3-0. after that it all went downhill. cant blame him much, for more injuries & 2 lucky goals for Coventry. i have always said that when hojlund start, man utd are effectively playing with 10 men. he is utterly useless. i have been saying this all season and behold football365 echoed what i have been saying. they said same thing when hojlund plays its like man utd have a man short, and for the price tag, is being branded flop player of the season, and i agree 1000%. another thing i have been saying for years is Zidane is coming to man utd, but yaw'll dont want to listen to me, some of you all so blind with the ETH love. ETH is not a good coach, nor is he a good employee. if he wants to walk out for loosing some power of player recruitment, then good. bye. save the compensation for firing him. the thought of him still being here for next season at man utd makes me sick. coventry will give a better game to man city than man utd. man utd is in the final with man city but the way they have been playing, you are mad to think suddenly we will play great football, in any match. since brentford it is going downhill and will continue sadly, brace yourself. thats why i said after the brentford game, the season is over. wake me up in August. The season os so over, even all the youtube channel people are already shopping for players for the summer transfer window lol. i reiterate again, not only ETH out but all the players. only mainoo starts, build the new team around him. on the bench is: shaw, martinez (last chance freak), bruno, kambwala, dallo, garnacho, i use to say hojlund too, but he lost his place to mcguire now. he did more ball progression than hojlund! he did better than casemiro! casemiro should be doing that. its not how you start, but how you finish. mcguire started already being hated by everyone but he finishing strong. sad cant say that about man utd. started ok but finish bad, so sad

Think it’s time to start giving the fans who called this at Christmas their props because plenty of Utd fans have been calling this for a while. I think just about everyone has checked out emotionally with this team as they’re so hard to get behind and not likeable at all! Antony cupping his ears at the end to the Coventry players and fans was disgraceful.
Rashford is somehow the clubs biggest asset still and people need to realise that even if he scored another 30 goals this season, INEOS should still consider selling because they are in it for business and to make money. The fact Rashford isn’t doing that should be the green light to 100% sell and make 100% profit from him.
ETH will be sacked now inevitably but the worry is keeping some of these absolute waste players because a new manager might have different ideas.

@@bazza2454but how long will we hide under performing, over valued players behind a safe rigid pragmatic setup, all top title winning sides play proactively on the front foot, expansively, but they close down quickly and athletically with top quality skillsets when they lose the ball, this season ten Hag has really exposed the players and their levels, to an extent that for me he has showcased that even if the club stupidly sack him first, they will never attract quality attacking managers with this squad. Improving the squad is the priority, we will be wasting our time by sacking yet another manager and making players feel they can always scapegoat the managers. We are going nowhere if are not changing players before manager.
