  • 1977 Mercury 1500 (150HP) A Cinderella Story. This engine was given to us by a subscriber of this youtube channel. The previous owner knew nothing about the history other than it did run a few years ago.
We rebuilt the carbs at least three times, replaced the fuel pump and lines, new water pump and new NOS Mercontrol box.
It was beyond frustrating. We were about to give up on the when a thought to buy another matching lower carburetor actually worked and it now runs like a new motor. This Tower of Power is an animal and we are now close to achieving our goal of 60mph.

What started off with adequate compression and spark was a real exercise in frustration. Fuel flow problems, electrical and then finally realizing it hand the wrong bottom carburetor. In the end it was well worth it. Now it should be reliable and trouble free.
