When the concrete is soft or you hit mortar and concrete screws won't bite, I find it best to use anchors. My favourites are Toggler Alligator fasteners as they work for dry wall as well. I actually don't use concrete screws anymore. They are horrible for applications that vibrate (basketball hoop, sliding door rail, gates etc..) as they transfer the vibration & make the concrete crumble. Whereas a fastener works as a buffer between the hard screw and concrete.
Really nice video again. I've quickly become a fan of your channel.

Beautifully done. The dowels really complete the look (which I hadn't expected). Good on ya.!

The Restoration Couple Gutted, top equipment to work with, I suppose its good to get a goof feel and test of expensive bits like that to see if they are worth the dollar for how much you will use them in the future!

Hi Tim, great job. What drill bit did you use for the 12mm countersink hole?

Ebauer set from screwfix. Very sharp and worked well to date. Hope was cut with a 12mm forstner bit.

I think that the external fixings were not necassary. the batten was sufficient!

Not needed to hold it up but needed to keep tight against wall especially as the timber will most likely want to cup slightly.

What happened to your hand Tim? ✋

Pushed my hand on a shard of ceramic tile. Cut like a knife. Nothing a bit of tissue and tape won’t fix 👌
