    thanks for this video sacramento koi. It was a great watch. just bought my first house and its been my dream to build a pond since I was a child. this was a very informative video for a person who has never had a pond, what most would assume as common knowledge is not for a person just getting into owning a pond, and specially like me, who plans to build my own concrete pond. best of luck to you and yours.

    Thanks for the tips!
    I have 2 questions on the flagstones on the inside of the pond above the water:
    * Assuming mortar is used to adhere the flagstones to the wall, how do you seal the grout joints so rainwater running on the wall does not wash contaminants into the pond water?
    * Assuming a liner (sprayed or just draped over) is used, how do you prevent it from peeling off at the top, near the flagstones. Is it secured under the flagstones?
    Thanks a ton.

    i have a nice 700 gallon pond i dug out my self, i would have made it deeper but i couldn't dig any more.haha anyway i have a few koi and goldfish, any they are ok. deepest part of the pond is about 28 inches and i have one little bio filter, a ton of plants and they are great! i have to admit, i wish i had $15000 for a pond but my 300 dollar pond is awesome. I just wanted to comment this because I must say... this video was very discouraging..hah

    Question number #12 is probably the biggest reason that the pond "fad" failed in the midwest. Everyone wanted a pond and they installed the rubber liner ponds without bottom drains and generally built them too shallow. Then they suffered the repercussions and filled the ponds back in.

  • @tammyconklin7717
    @tammyconklin7717 3 года назад

    I built a concrete pond without having any knowledge of how or what I was doing...years later and I still have no clue of what I'm doing...I have goldfish and minnows...now I have this pond that the rubber paint is peeling off throughout the pond and the bottom of the pond is very dirty...plus I believe my fish are now over populated...before anyone says it, yes I probably should have talked to someone who knows ponds and could have helped me plan it better...

      ***** That price is just for the pond. Fish prices can very dramatically depending on the quality of the koi. We do have koi starting as low as $25 a piece for 6 inch ones.

    also, I don't believe uv light and chemicals are best way to kill algae, I would say enough plants in your bog filter so that the algae cant grow is a better way!

    • @bradsimpson8724
      @bradsimpson8724 3 года назад +1

      Define better. The bog filter method is more natural, of course, but it's based on the plants inside out-competing the algae for nutrients. If something wrecks the plants(deer, a bad storm, a later spring frost, etc.), your bog filter has to rebound from zero, and the algae, being a simpler organism, will flourish in the meantime. UV and chemical treatments will kill the target organism on contact, no questions asked. Bog filters typically require more maintenance and tending as well.
      I'm not saying bog filters are bad, but they are by no means better or worse. The equation is not that simple.
