"If you don't think you have predators in your area, build a koi pond and see what happens" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. That made my day I can just imagine you have told hundreds of people over the years and always been proven right.
The most informative video of a Koi pond i have ever seen, truly professional and educational for a beginner and connoisseur alike.. Keep up the good work, enjoying and learning from your Channel!
This was like a master class on building a pond. Thank you for sharing your many years of wisdom.... just amazing how many mistakes we would have made had we not seen your video.
I got an unusual Christmas gift. A huge sink hole opened up in my backyard Christmas’s day. The location is perfect for a koi pond. This guy is fantastic and answered all my questions.
The best, most comprehensive and informative video about Koi ponds I've seen. As someone who is currently building my own pond, you have given my much food for thought. Thank you.
Wow, this is an amazing resource for any one thinking of building a koi pond, or even for serious aquarium hobbyists. Thanks for sharing all this wisdom. This video contains the best explanation of head pressure and flow calculations I have seen online. Thanks!
Wow--so informative. This makes me want to ask you to come to my house and build mine! But with a low budget, I am building mine myself and will do what I can afford to have a good, safe, clean pond. Thanks for so much information. The best video on pond building I've found so far. Now I'm going to your site.
Thanks for taking the time to run through the important elements of koi pond building. I'm glad I watched this before starting my project and hopefully there won't be any expensive mistakes now...
A thoughtful video, well organized. It gives the theoretical rational for design choices so that, even if you have to compromise to save dollars, you can at least address the inherent problems.
thanks for this video sacramento koi. It was a great watch. just bought my first house and its been my dream to build a pond since I was a child. this was a very informative video for a person who has never had a pond, what most would assume as common knowledge is not for a person just getting into owning a pond, and specially like me, who plans to build my own concrete pond. best of luck to you and yours.
Can't believe i finished an hour of discussion. This is like a masterclass both in the perspective of science and arts. Well, a renewable energy like from solar or wind can be a good investment for the electricity bills.
Thank you for sharing your many years of experience. My pond gives me so much joy. It's my second pond and I'm dreaming of the next one. Your advice will be taken to heart.
Fantastic information and a learning code for us Koi Keepers , one thing if I missed it there was no mention on Oxygen , I will watch again just in-case I missed it
Awesome video! Thanks for all the advice. Often times we just start a pond project without really knowing what we are doing. These information will save me and I bet others many headaches. Pura vida!!
Some excellent information and tips - know doubt acquired through a good degree of experience. and I would add ..... presented in a very casual but thoughtful way. Thank you
Fantastic and very informative talk, I just wish the water volumes would have been done in litres as that is a standard measurement worldwide whereas gallons isn't...I also wish we could have seen that pond better in the background, those fish looked stunning...One last wish, I wish I had more room for fish!
What a great Vid thanks for sharing and sharing your vast experience...I only wish you could come and put your pond in the vid in my back garden in DerbyUK!
Thanks for the tips! I have 2 questions on the flagstones on the inside of the pond above the water: * Assuming mortar is used to adhere the flagstones to the wall, how do you seal the grout joints so rainwater running on the wall does not wash contaminants into the pond water? * Assuming a liner (sprayed or just draped over) is used, how do you prevent it from peeling off at the top, near the flagstones. Is it secured under the flagstones? Thanks a ton.
i have a nice 700 gallon pond i dug out my self, i would have made it deeper but i couldn't dig any more.haha anyway i have a few koi and goldfish, any they are ok. deepest part of the pond is about 28 inches and i have one little bio filter, a ton of plants and they are great! i have to admit, i wish i had $15000 for a pond but my 300 dollar pond is awesome. I just wanted to comment this because I must say... this video was very discouraging..hah
Question number #12 is probably the biggest reason that the pond "fad" failed in the midwest. Everyone wanted a pond and they installed the rubber liner ponds without bottom drains and generally built them too shallow. Then they suffered the repercussions and filled the ponds back in.
I built a concrete pond without having any knowledge of how or what I was doing...years later and I still have no clue of what I'm doing...I have goldfish and minnows...now I have this pond that the rubber paint is peeling off throughout the pond and the bottom of the pond is very dirty...plus I believe my fish are now over populated...before anyone says it, yes I probably should have talked to someone who knows ponds and could have helped me plan it better...
***** That price is just for the pond. Fish prices can very dramatically depending on the quality of the koi. We do have koi starting as low as $25 a piece for 6 inch ones.
I have a question I live in New York Long Island and we can we can have some bad winters I have a deicer I put in for the winter now I got two pumps one for the UV light and 1 foot that runs on the ground the line for the regular pump now the one that’s on the ground like the one that the lines run on the ground the regular pump it’s a it’s a skimmer pump. Do I have to take the pump out for the winter like I’ve left it in there and put is it bad to leave it in the winter while it off?
also, I don't believe uv light and chemicals are best way to kill algae, I would say enough plants in your bog filter so that the algae cant grow is a better way!
Define better. The bog filter method is more natural, of course, but it's based on the plants inside out-competing the algae for nutrients. If something wrecks the plants(deer, a bad storm, a later spring frost, etc.), your bog filter has to rebound from zero, and the algae, being a simpler organism, will flourish in the meantime. UV and chemical treatments will kill the target organism on contact, no questions asked. Bog filters typically require more maintenance and tending as well. I'm not saying bog filters are bad, but they are by no means better or worse. The equation is not that simple.
Very informative, I thank you for your time and expertise. I am considering creating a koi pond on my property, and have spoken with a number of local contractors with experience with koi ponds, but none have displayed the level of expertise and knowledge that you apparently possess. installingthatchanging the pondspend

I was wondering is it ok to fill the pond with well water ?
If you can drink it and it's not chlorinated, fish will be happy to live in it.

How big is that pond behind you?
The pond that you see in the background is a 9,000 gallon pond.
***** At the time that we filmed this video, we had about 18-20 koi, ranging from 20" - 34".
What were the total costs of building the pond in the background? Including materials and labor. Thanks

Sacramento Koi wow that's expensive but its cheap if you think about the size and beauty. my aunt paid more for a heated saltwater pool.
master!

is there a jet you recommend for liner ponds?
The Editor: "Must be quite. ... good onto the nest slide"
I wish you had your branch offices in Japan.
What if you have an indoor koi pond?
can you swim in a pond?
Thank you!
This is the best Nicholas cage film I’ve ever seen
