A reminder that we need to be talking to kids about the illnesses and issues that their adults are facing, giving them tools and being a community. We are responsible for all the kids- parenting is not a solitary responsibility and we can all get there together.

I always feel like I’m on FaceTime and I literally cleaned my entire house. My ADHD brain can’t thank you enough.
This I understand because both my mother and I have mental health issues. My mother struggles heavily with depression she’s constantly sad, irritated, angry. Lots of anger. I spent a lot of my childhood wondering what would make my mom snap this time. I was scared of her but also scared of her not being here because she was our only parent and we would be in the system. The lack of community and communication when you have a mentally ill parent really makes the entire situation 10x harder. It’s sad because of my mothers emotional instability we do not have a good relationship. I wish the system cared more for people with mental health struggles.

I feel the same way. I moved away from my mom (toxic childhood) and Im a woman in stem. I feel like I'm always alone and overlooked at work. I can help my mom but I'm exhausted. Anyway, Love you Will and we will be ok

Thank you, Will, for being so open and honest about your experiences being the offspring of someone struggling with mental illness. So many of us, in black and brown communities especially, deal with some level of parentification when our guardians are struggling (especially for all of those who go undiagnosed because of the negative stigma within our communities).
Your feelings and emotions are so valid and are echoed within your community. I know watching this will definitely help someone. I’ll spare my own anecdotes because this comment is long enough, but I know you’ve inspired me to have my own open conversations with my daughter so that I don’t repeat the mistakes my mom made.
This community you built is beautiful and it’ll keep growing. I know how hard it is for Black creators, but we see you on that grind in 2024, baby! You’re doing the damn thing! However, please also remember to make time for moments of peace and relaxation. You cannot take care of your mom, if you don’t take care of yourself first. Listen to your Afro Boricua Abuela or no arroz con pollo for you! 😂

This was an awesome vlog. I have an older sister with severe schizophrenia and mental delays who lives in an out-patient setting that is way less than ideal. I really relate to having to see your loved one in a bad situation that you can’t change because of money :(

i enjoy watching realistic vlogs like these way more, i think that’s what vlogging and social media overall should be about. in our society it’s expected to only show others the highlights of your life. but it feels nice once in a while to see people go through the same/similar struggles as you. i get a lot of comfort from it and it makes me feel less lonely. i appreciate you for being vulnerable, i know it takes a lot of courage 🫶🏽
If i could recommend a goo cheap city its Buffalo NY. Good people cheap apartments and poorer people are taken care of.

Back then, there was no youtube and I couldn't find any books or people who could really help me work through the emotional and mental toll that it takes. You are an inspiration. My mother was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic who lost custody of all six of her children me being her youngest. I grew up until I was about 15 believing that my mom was just sick. No one really telling me that she had a mental illness and then when it was presented that she had a mental illness, it was done in such a shameful way, and I felt such a great shame. The adults in my life were trying to protect me. I guess they didn’t really protect me from other things, but I guess they just didn’t want me to know that I was born into a woman with a mental illness thank you for this thank you for helping us to realize that there’s no shame in this and that our parents are mothers did not choose this it chose them, sending you love.

hey will, i've been a caregiver for my dad for over a year now so please believe me when i tell you that everything you're doing matters so much more than it seems. helping your mom with her bills, apartment and managing life is such a huge gesture. i know you want to do more but don't overlook what you're already doing. these situations are never ideal but you're an amazing person for thinking of your mom and going out of your way to help her because a lot of people turn their backs in times of their families' needs. there should be more programs to assist her with moving into a suitable place and helping with bills but these things are so hard to find if you aren't already aware of them. do some digging and maybe you'll find a few. we love you.

your intro already had me in tears, feeling seen - i was also that young kid taking care of a family member with mental illness (schiz) that everyone else chose to ignore and refused to take seriously. knowing things were being hidden from me and having to piece it all together on my own. i too was the only one to get help for my family member. I feel for you will and i thank you for bringing awareness to these things and its yet another real life example for me personally on how representation matters. too much we are having to hold onto in silence, and its heavy.

This vlog touched me! I too have a mother who has mental illness which resulted in me growing up quickly. At a young age she was often taken to the ER by ambulance which lead to psych placement. I knew her SS# by memory before I even knew my own. Thanks for sharing this with us Will! Wishing you and your mom the best! ❤
