This show did a great job on capitalizing on the nostalgia factor of kids who grew up on the Clone Wars animated show to make the plot of The Bad Batch super impactful. It adds to the atmosphere of the show being bleak and the rise of the Empire that much more depressing and sickening. The kids that watched the Clone Wars are now adults/young adults seeing the characters they grew up loving die off, be tossed aside or beaten down by the new regime while dealing with the state of the world we live in and what's going on combine the emotions and feelings from both to see parallels to reality through the show in the injustice and bleakness of the show. Always though it was a nice touch to not have it be completely bleak by having major clone characters defect and survive to live their life and continue living.

Retiring such a battle-hardened, well trained force of the Republic's finest Ground Troops in its 25,000 Years of history has to be one of the dumbest things Palpatine has ever done.
No he did the right thing. Palpatine wanted a cheap to operate army considering the big financial losses the star systems incurred during the war. He also wanted soldiers that have less individuality, and that can only come from civilians. Anyone who worked with the Jedi was very self-aware, at times too much. Such people can make them question themselves and their surroundings and their actions, and would also educate others. Now if one's trying to be a totalitarian, they need to destroy any part of society that does not obey so easily or promotes political consciousness. And also, these people don't follow orders so easily, they follow what they think is right. And in Season 2 Episode 3, Cody did tell Crosshair that more and more clones began to question Order 66, and felt they were the wrong guys while serving the Empire. If one wants to be a totalitarian, they need small-minded folk that don't look beyond their wallets or have ultranationalist sentiment and in the Clone Army that had heavy emotional influence from the Jedi, it would just not be possible. Such feeble and gullible yet somewhat rational and capable individuals can only come from the general population, and over that they are cheap, and they can last a good 30-40 years in service as compared to the Clones that can only last 10 or 15 years in service due to their rapid aging. And also, the Kaminoans who made the clones were not willing to give their technology to any outsider, so they were required to be wiped out. And the Emperor direly needed the cloning technology so that the Empire has total control over it, and so he can work to clone himself or build a different clone army.
This is why the Clones were always the most engaging part of Star Wars for me. they don't have a bunch of fancy powers to win the day. all they have is each other and their training and experience. now? they're being thrown out. it puts a huge frown on my face to see this happen to them after so much sacrifice and years of loyal service.
It's really sad to see the clones being phased out, especially those who still want to serve the Empire. I wish they still kept it like they did in OG Battlefront 2
Please Dave Filoni please don't Ruined Purge troopers Royal guards Dark troopers phase 0.5 I hate Filoni make the empire so drastically look like Bad Guys no all person are shit like Tarkin or rampart for me they Become another Believers program Dark Troopers!
Crosshair quietly thinking about his loyalty to the Empire. That woman not even looking at the clones in the eyes after the retirement talk is enough to show she gives no fucks.
The clones' fate is far worse than what happened to the Jedi. The Jedi were still remembered and talked about even 19 years when the order fell. The clones on the other hand are given nothing in the end. There's no memorial for what they've done. They're seen as obsolete despite them still being loyal and wanting to fight and protect the galaxy. They're seen as a burden by the Empire despite all they've done. The Jedi who remember them despise them for how they turned on them at the end of the war. The clones are just seen as worthless and easily replaceable. Goes to show you why serving in the Empire isn't worth it. In the end, you're replaceable no matter who you are and what you've done.
@@dimitris2936 You might be thinking about the Star wars battlefront lore but 501st clone troopers logically became labelled as stormtroopers but still clones, replacements were cloned in Coruscant cloning facilities.
Only the 501st remained pure with clones, but they did fight alongside the new guys as time went on. Course this is all taken from the BF2 (2005) game, so it’s considered Legends unfortunately.
I remember thinking out what exactly the Empire was trying to achieve with the storm trooper program and kinda found it stupid in the long run. It would have been more affective to just have clones work with the new storm trooper legions to give them experience and maybe even gain even more loyalty to the Empire. They discussed that the cost of Clones were too expensive. But like.... The storm troopers aren't any different... Yeah they have shitty armor that is cheaper but they are less experienced and being trained by dogshit commanders that couldn't command a line of ants to a picnic. The amount of storm troopers they have to equip, feed, house, and train just made the Empire spend more money. (let's not even talk about the waste of money on Super Weapons lmao. Thanks Tarkin). Then they said the Empire's storm troopers would be a friendly face to locals but then they enforce division and harsh rules on their own people making rebellion always possible. It's just.... Why are they soo dumb 😂
I think Palpatine was terrified that the implants might wear off soon and he need to get them out of the military before they conduct a large-scale rebellion. The Clones were loyal to the Republic and to the Jedi Order.
Why do I get the feeling this “retirement” isn’t just a retirement.i feel like the empire is just gonna execute them when they get the chance cause knowing the empire, that doesn’t seem far fetched
Would they I mean from what we see in Rebels and Obi Wan Kenobi iy is clear that most of the clones have in fact retired by the following years of the empire
Not worth the effort, the Clones were already helpless enough being artificial people specifically bred for war with 0 qualifications outside of that, throw them out into the usual dirty and poor civilian life in the galaxy and most would have been unable to secure stable employment or even a place to live.
Little known thing about the 20 year "War on terror ". The Army and Marines needed everyone they could get but the Navy and Air Force was not invited to the war. The Pentagon transferred personnel allotments from the "Blue forces" (Navy and Air Force) To the Green forces (Army and Marines) So for most of the 20 years of war, the Navy and Air Force were "Now firing"
Wow! This breaks Crosshair's heart seeing a lot of clones being forced into retirement or being imprisoned as part of replacing them with stormtroopers. No wonder why the clones are disappearing. This would definitely make Crosshair defect from the Empire.
Forcing them to retire doesn't make a bit of sense. At the very least the Empire could use them as canon fodder, or station them at the Unknown Regions or galactic rim in case someone invades from either region. Or use them as forced labor on the death star project. Or if the dumbass Empire hadn't sunk Kamino facilities all the clones could have been brought in for "physicals" and been chipped and turned into servitors and cyborgs. But no instead we'll throw throw away millions of useful resources. I get so sick of the Empire being made to look completely incompetent.
Crosshair did what was right he killed the boss and I respect that he did not give a damn for maydays deaths so he earned his death and this proves crosshair changed he cares for his comrades and got revenge for mayday that’s a true soilder in the grand army of the rebellion

Why? Its a random ass woman that shouldnt even exist since the empire is sexist.
Unlike her. She spoke like someone who is about to fall asleep while walking. :D
The proud Clones being forced into retirement kind of makes me teary eyed, ngl. 😥
I think they got screwed since the beginning. A by the republic considered subhuman race of slave soldiers breed as cannon fodder
Makes me think about the homeless clone from the Kenobi series. What a depressing fate.
"After Kamino's destruction, the Emperor decided an army of genetically identical soldiers was too susceptible to corruption. Future troopers would be picked out from volunteers. Though the 501st itself remained pure, the rest of the Imperial Army gradually became more and more diverse. We never really got used to the new guys."
I like the legends explanation better then in canon because in canon it's making the empire more evil. at least the emperor still had the use of the clone army much longer in legends before the kamino uprising made him realize that conscription was a better option
She first appeared in season 1 episode 10
Shelby Young doing another great job with captain Bragg!
Agreed. Honestly my favorite one-offs.
Was surprised to see her here
Wonder if she will appear more
This episode was like the post apocalypse
The Clones: “Damn, maybe we shouldn’t have genocided the leaders of our army that cared about us after all”
Like they had a choice. Brainwashed stooges one and all.
It's not like they had a choice
I couldn't help but look at Crosshair like: "Yep..take a good hard look...this is the side you chose...congratulations."
It’s kinda poetic irony. The Empire the Clones helped create is now disposing of them.
0:10 “America thanks you for your years of service and wishes you well on your retirement.”
“Retirement? I’m barely 30 and all I’ve even known is how to be a soldier. What am I supposed to do now.”
“Please direct all your questions and concerns to the VA.”
You beat me to the punch, cause boy if this whole series didn't hit home for us Vets.
Dude I feel really bad for the clones. Imagine trying to reajust into the life you've always known after killing some of the closest people to you. Then, out of nowhere, you get replaced for less experienced and crappy new hires
Just like real VA
Bet the empire regretted this after seeing their new troopers cannot even aim and lost to primitive teddy bears.
They are based on the na$is, so they are made to be bumbling on purpose. If you knew who control s the med ia in general, you would know why it's that way.
Always though it was a nice touch to not have it be completely bleak by having major clone characters defect and survive to live their life and continue living.
rip clones
I think crosshair joining the empire after the destruction of kamino is a bad idea.
rip the clones we will miss you clones i enjoy the star wars the clone wars and The Bad Batch Season 1 and season 2 i watch season 2 Episode 12 i am Sade the clones will be no longer
0:14 Shelby played stephenie from lazy town.
Really!!!!!!!!!
@@darthahsoka3518 yes.
In the original they also got replaced by the time of the death star the 501 had to recruit new troops regular no more clones.
Poetic that the clones will attempt to restore the republic
"We're soldiers! What are we supposed to do now?"
private military contractors: 🤤😘
No.
Not gonna happen. No PMCs are permitted in the empire.

I bet their retirement is to become purge troopers
Please Dave Filoni please don't Ruined Purge troopers Royal guards Dark troopers phase 0.5 I hate Filoni make the empire so drastically look like Bad Guys no all person are shit like Tarkin or rampart for me they Become another Believers program Dark Troopers!
They don't become purge troopers. They were discarded
as purge troopers after a mind trick done extremely easily by a Jedi to them.

Crosshair quietly thinking about his loyalty to the Empire. That woman not even looking at the clones in the eyes after the retirement talk is enough to show she gives no fucks.
Cross hair is finally understanding.
Fives: someday this war Is gonna end
Rex: then what? We aré soldiers, what Will happen to us then?
So that is how Palpatine go the Clones to leave. I always thought they were tossed away.
where do they keep finding comically evil imperial officers lol
It's the same girl from S1, apparently most of them are rich people from the core worlds lol
How is she comically or evil
She is just repeating to the clones their retiring speech, that ain't funny at all
0:20 translation: Not our problem.
best episode in the entire series
Like jaro tapal said clones betrayed and killed the Jedi
This is kinda stupid decision tbh, in Legends they were all transfered to the 501st under command of Darth Vader and fought until the Battle of Endor.
Not really. The 501st was mostly stormtroopers, just more clones than any other legion in the empire.
@@dimitris2936 You might be thinking about the Star wars battlefront lore but 501st clone troopers logically became labelled as stormtroopers but still clones, replacements were cloned in Coruscant cloning facilities.
@@yanlibra8886 No I mean most of the 501st was regular born humans. But still had a lot of clones for the empire.
Only the 501st remained pure with clones, but they did fight alongside the new guys as time went on.
Course this is all taken from the BF2 (2005) game, so it’s considered Legends unfortunately.
@@sanlorenzo7896 Even in Legends that wasn’t true as it was the 501st on Tatooine in Ep.4 and most of them where not clones.
This is Palpatine making me angry every second that passes.
that scene along made me want to see Tarkin hemlock Gideon Krenik Nolan all die a Firey death
Why do I get the feeling this “retirement” isn’t just a retirement.i feel like the empire is just gonna execute them when they get the chance cause knowing the empire, that doesn’t seem far fetched
Would they
I mean from what we see in Rebels and Obi Wan Kenobi iy is clear that most of the clones have in fact retired by the following years of the empire
The War on Terror was a joke. An absolute waste of time, money, and lives for no real payback. American Stupidity on Steroids.
I wonder what Crosshair was thinking as he saw this
Poor Clones
Wow! This breaks Crosshair's heart seeing a lot of clones being forced into retirement or being imprisoned as part of replacing them with stormtroopers. No wonder why the clones are disappearing. This would definitely make Crosshair defect from the Empire.
They might aswell make a bad batch cross hair mini show/ spin off show about him doing missions for the empire
uhh, will the episodes be about him fragging his commanding officers?
It's boomeranged on us, by crikey!
What if the empire kept the clones?
Imagine if the government treated their soldiers like this……………….
I hope we see a HUGE battle Clones vs Stormtroopers or Clones & Separatist Droids vs Stormtroopers.
I have a feeling the last few episodes is gonna be the clones against TK Troppers no longer against each other
Forcing them to retire doesn't make a bit of sense.
Clones effed around and found out
Captain Bragg definitely changed after getting stunned by the Bad Batch lol
Crosshair did what was right he killed the boss and I respect that he did not give a damn for maydays deaths so he earned his death and this proves crosshair changed he cares for his comrades and got revenge for mayday that’s a true soilder in the grand army of the rebellion
there are clones that definitely stay tho theres a cannon comic i really dont know why the empire stopped using clones pretty stupid decision
You said it, there is a comic... They dont give a damn about written stuff.
Needlessly expensive. As Tarkin points out in this very show, any moron can be trained into becoming an effective soldier.
@@attilafekete7892 its a shame really the comics are so good hopefully somebody will by the IP of disny
That's the price for being loyal. Even in real life happens
I wasn’t expecting them to be forced into retirement until next season. Guess I was wrong there.
I wonder how Jango Fett would of felt about this if he was still alive🤔
Maybe some pity, but he wouldn't care that much, he didn't care about clones when he was alive so...he knew what he signed for
@@granalmirantethrawn2972yeah he only did it for the money I’m pretty sure
Maybe he cared much more for the clones in Legends and much less in Canon 🤨
First they came for the Jedi, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jedi.
Then they came for the regs, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a reg.
Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.
Lol at the end you can see the stormtroopers legs clipping through their ass plate
I noticed how their uniforms kinda look like those German uniforms from the second world war
fuckkkk i cant unsee the tk troopers body glove glitching on their butt plates
The fact that there were so many of them already just proves how large the empire military was just in 18bby
Its sad that season 2 is almost over its going by to quickly I hope the show gets 2 more seasons
And hopefully with more episodes
Like at least 18
@@riley-dv8eu so people complain about the fillers? Nah, 16 is fine
@@granalmirantethrawn2972 i mean, Rebels had more then 15, and the clone wars earlier seasons had 20-22 episodes, even with filler whats wrong with showing some extra action
Plus the thing about shows like Andor, star wars rebels, Obi Wan and i think 3po and R2, Kenobi or movies like Solo or Rogie one is your sort of seeing more of like the time of the empire, so more episodes might give us more perspective of the empire rise, especially since now we are in year 18 bby
@@riley-dv8eu fair enough, but I fear more episodes would require more time to make them, or less quality overall, given that I doubt the TCW animation style is cheap.
But tbh Idk, if we could get quantity and quality (which shouldn't be a problem for DISNEY/LUCASFILM) I would take it, but I'm happy with what we've got, 16 is definitely better than the 12 from the last clone wars season(that should had been longer and we all know it)
Fucking love those stormtroopers
Yeah, the TK troopers look cool
Reminds me of how the USA treat Vietnam veterans.
reminds you of something you know nothing about?
I got s feeling retirement equals dark trooper test subjects
How much time has passed since Order 66 at this point? I feel they phased them out too fast but maybe not maybe they just did too many time jumps in the Bad Batch so far. And how many years do TK Troopers armor last for before they bring in the Stormtrooper armor? I really hope we get alot more battles like in The Clone Wars and like the Battle of Desix. Remember there were millions of Clones and Separatist droids (not all were deactivated) and other factions in a huge galaxy. What im trying to say I hope they make it all make sense what with the timeline and all. Like it's debated alot how many years The Clone Wars actually raged on for.
I recently see most SW fans claim the clone wars lasted for about 3 years instead of 4
@railfandepotproductions Yeah I think I heard that too. However I rather like the idea of them lasting longer, considering all the events that happen and what the characters say such as Rex or Cody says in S7 ''Back in the day.'' Dooku says something like ''All those years ago on Geonosis.'' And that was in the Sifo Diaz arc which isnt even at the end of the war.
"I get to retire?!"
I think the US government took notes from the empire, lol
I say Cut has got it lucky
Throw them to the streets - the empire
If i was the empire i would have kept the clones under service and still had them made on kamino while still having storm troopers
Well. That was kind of the case in the old Canon, like the EU
Clone troopers phase 2 on Andor? I am joke to you?
Exactly
Not. All of them have retired
This is literally the VA. 😂
I'm sorry DID THEY GET RID OF THE MEMORIAL IN THE EPISODE?!?!
The entire base wad rid my guy
This is why many Separatists preferred Droids. They said it was more humane.
