      Señor, unfortunately, I did a final inspection before taking delivery. Pulled the engine cover and upper timing cover off, and found someone had replaced a good bit of the wiring harness with household-grade wires. Was quoted 8 hours labor plus $220 for a new harness to fix it. Decided it wasn’t worth the trouble so I passed on it. On to the next!

    This review brings back good old memories. I had a 2002 with every option including Mark Levinson, factory HID headlights, and factory touchscreen infotainment (incredibly responsive). To this day, it is still the best audio system I've ever heard in a car. The newer Mark Levinson I sampled in the GX 460 doesn't seem to compare. The vocals, details, and soundstage was incredible. The cabin was dead silent and the 2JZ, as with any inline-6 or v12, inherently never vibrates by design. The AC was too cold. I had to constantly turn it off every few minutes otherwise all the windows would fog up from the outside. I would've loved to send it your way to review.

    • @MrCarGuy
      @MrCarGuy 4 года назад +12

      They also designed the UZ V8 engines to be just as smooth as a typical I6. It had 8 crank counterweights instead of the usual 6. They spared little expense back then.

      @MrCarGuy 4 года назад +3

      @@jehadwadi4554 I've had plenty of experience with a 90s Alpine system, Nakamichi, and early Mark Levinson, and most modern "premium" audio systems don't exceed them when measuring with CD source quality. The Burmester system in an S-Class is amazing, though.

      @jehadwadi4554 4 года назад +1

      MrCarGuy It’s an S class (the best or nothing) haha. But seriously my family has a 2019 lexus lx570 and the mark levinson is mediocre compared to harmon kardon. The lx570 is a a sweet truck though.

    • @MrCarGuy
      @MrCarGuy 4 года назад +3

      @@jehadwadi4554 The brands hardly matter at all. It's all about the balance and tuning to the interior space. The Burmester is the only one I've heard with an unnecessarily high number of speakers that is better enough for the price than a well-balanced and high quality 4 to 6 speaker + woofer system.

    I have an 88k mile 2000 GS400 Platinum (improved leather, bird's eye maple trim, black chrome exterior trim, and unique wheels) in Millennium Silver over black. Last month of production. I truly believe it's a timeless design and couldn't ask for a better car.
    Speaking of the ball joints, the one thing that is crucial on these and other Toyotas with this suspension design is to use OEM ball joints (others are too risky and not to same standards at all) every 80-90k miles.

      www.clublexus.com/forums/suspension-and-brakes/310895-warning-to-all-2nd-gen-gs-owners.html it’s well documented on the clublexus forums.

      @@iheartgs400 This is a thread where people neglected to change them. These are bunch of people who let theirs go for way too long. Yes they changed the design, but the stress put on the ball joints requires even the updated (and slightly strengthened) newer part to be replaced every 80-90k miles.
      I wouldn't let _any_ car go without ball joints for as long as some of those people let them go.

      When I think of a "beater" I think of an 80's or 90's Corolla or Civic, not an old Lexus lol. I still think the values of these cars and the IS300s will go up in value, just like the Supra and S2000s have in the last 5+ years. Toyota is my favorite automaker for their sheer reliability and Kaizen philosophy, these old Lexus's were truly built to last!

    A lot of people think the 2jz was originally from the Supra, but it was actually born in the Lexus GS/Toyota aristo first. The aristo which is the jdm gs was the first vehicle to have the turbo 2jz and na version of the engine. Even the base JDM version of the supra got this NA engine with auto just like this lexus GS, all of the powertrain is shared with the Supra. But in the usa we only got the turbo supra, thats the only difference. And u can put the turbo 2jz into any gs300 from a jdm aristo or from another supra. I guess u could kinda call this a luxury 4 door supra. This chassis is also similar to the Lexus sc300/Toyota soarer, and Toyota chaser which we never got here in the states. A lot of people think this is just a normal luxury car but its not, a lot of people in Japan drift these and build them up. They are sleeper cars for sure!

    I have a 2006 IS 250 I bought certified preowned at the 3 year mark. I didn't take real good care of interior but mechanically it's good. I hope to get many years from it and baby it, also driving much fewer miles than the usual. I need tint replaced. Other than that, AC is broken but I have no problems toughing it out there.
    The IS250 rides harsher than the IS 300s typically but it handles better, sporty. If I had a choice I'd settle for the IS 350 but I got a newer 250 since it was the cheapest and this version had 4 wheel drive for the snow.

    Some may say they're boring, I disagree. But then again, I don't care about gadgets, infotainment systems and all these Gizmo's you can find in today's cars.
