400 is the best 2nd gen GS imo between the 300, 400, and 430. 400 gets better gas mileage than the 300, and the 400 also has the manumatic gear shifters in steering wheel whereas 430 does not. Also, the throttle was changed on the 430 it’s kind of laggy in comparison to the 400
@@flyxguy956 by good design and engineering. The difference is minimal, though. If you look at the manual, it will say slightly better city mileage in the V8. @@ItaliaJP400 Black wood wheel and wood ashtray make a big difference. Im looking for a GS400 wood wheel but the only one that fits is the 03 Sport design. I want to keep E-shift and plug and play airbag.
Awesome video, I own a GS400 and every time I drive it I have a good time . I'm still puzzled at how cheap they are considering it is a rear wheel drive V8 from Toyota.

I have a 2000 gs300 black on black by far the very nicest riding and most reliable car I’ve ever had. Love this car and the way toyota takes care of their customers
I’ve owned Lexus’ since 1998, and Toyotas since 1984. My only complaints are the low horsepower and lack of a totally manual shifter. I LOVE my ‘06 GS 430 that I purchased new with 58 miles, and currently have a little over 180k. I don’t plan to ever get rid out it. With reference to fuel mileage, the faster it’s driven, the higher the gas mileage. At 85 or more, it averages 24/25. The car still really drives great. My desire for high horsepower and a manual shift has me considering a Cadillac CT5V Blackwing, but their limited production will probably have me settling for the LC 500. And I’m still going to keep my GS.
I daily a 2GS and it has been amazing. It is so smooth and worry free. I also drove it across America without any issues. It is such an underrated car.
I can relate it pretty much everything anybody is saying here I have a 2000 GS 300 black on black it is by far the finest car I have ever had is reliable easy to work on and doesn’t need much maintenance I do oil changes air filters clean it Keep the leather conditioned and it still rides as good as it did when it was new got 141,000 miles on it. Even Benz and BMW are not the same as it used to be. They’ve keeping them up quite a bit also, and are not nearly as reliable.
I have a 2002 GS430 and I brought it in 2003 as a demo model with model with full warranty. Only used the warranty once to replace the entertainment section. Without warranty would have been $6K back then. But nothing but good things to say about it. I dropped it about 2 inches and did a cold air intake and Borla exhaust. I’ve babied the car and have 160k on it and I could right now go in the garage and take it across country without any worries. I’ve met others with their GS and they had 300k miles on them. You can drive this car to the moon and back. It will keep going. I hope you enjoy your GS as much as I do.
This GS was the first Lexus I've ever seen up close and personal back in 2002. It was my friends mom's car and since seeing it. I made a promise to myself that my first car will be a Lexus GS. Ended up getting the 2014 GS350 F-Sport back in 2017 as my first car.
That was an awesome overview man. I really enjoyed all the information you shared. It's a car with a solid history. I just bought a 2006 GS430. I agree with everything you said about the car. Very nice and mostly 100% accurate ...the zero to sixty is closer to 6 specs than 5. And no N/A GS430 is capable of 12's in the quarter mile. (And a stock C5 Vette is BARELY capable of 13's, as well) But thank you for the vid bro. It was very enjoyable to watch - I liked your whole vid
Probably, the best GS body and for sure the best Toyota engine of all time. Had different kinds of GS & LS bodies and now am owning a GS430 like yours. It's a bit more "sporty" in comparison with LS430, but the engine feels similar.
My1st gen is approaching 300k miles, up here in Toronto you don't see the 1st gen anymore and maybe there are 2 or 3 2nd gen GS sightings per year....both generations yes are underappreciated.....the LS 400 got all the attention

Beautiful car. Had a ‘99 GS300, which I wish I still had. In mine, the grove on the top right of the glove box housed an extra 6-CD changer, so you could keep an extra 6 discs in a separate changer ready to be popped into the player. This was great on long road trips. Congrats on owning a clean GS, hope you keep it for a very long time!

Great review - I've been recently wanting one of these as a project car ... Thanks for confirming all my thoughts about why it might be an awesome next ride. 👍
I'm was thinking about buying one, this video convinced me. I found one for sale for 2k. The owner just has is sitting in the drive way so I made an offer and they said yes.
We didn't get the first generation GS in Australia but the 2nd generation was the first series sold here, but only with 2JZ GE and only auto. If all things go well, I'm going to be looking to buy one soon
Very nice review, and it looks like you've got a keeper! I'm in the market for a GS now, undecided between the GS300/350 or the GS400 series. Apparently all use premium gas & I've heard that the gas mileage isn't all that great, but there's only about a 1mpg difference between the 6's and the 8's. Might as well go for more power then, but I'm really looking for more comfort. All these Lexus' seem to be supremely comfortable, which my convertible just isn't. Now to find one that's had some love in the past & has a good price tag!
May be a little late, but the GS400 throttle body is interchangeable to the GS430. Seen some people on facebook use the throttle cable throttle body from the 400 on the 430 and they say it does feel more responsive
Cool ride - I still think it's a desirable car. And they bring decent money (for the age and what it is) even high miles, a testament initial and continuing quality. I'd say it's a good deal. (Couple years ago almost bought a GS350 F Sport, just didn't have enough power - so I went German - but I'll bet I've paid for it over the years!)
One thing I noticed you didn’t mention is that there’s actually a third layer to the trunk, underneath the plastic one, I thought I was missing a spare when I got mine, but I realized that there was another pocket underneath the plastic one, and in that pocket was my spare. Not sure if you knew this or not, but figured I’d share!
Your GS is dope Bro. Nice review.👍 Proud owner of a silver 2000 LS400 up here in Canada. Same wood grain steering wheel as yours and I agree, you definitely feel like a pimp when you’re grippin that wood 🪵😆. I met an old guy with a white 2001 GS430 only 70000 kms last year. Barely drives it. Left my contact info with him in case he ever wants to sell. Still hope to hear from him someday. Peace to all the Lexus lovers worldwide.🌎
I personally would keep the factory head unit to keep it mint. I think there’s a hack to tap into the head unit to make a line in. When I bought my SC, the previous owners figured it out.
I currently daily drive a 22 supra 3.0 painstakingly , while it is the best bang for the buck for performance but in terms of practicality though, its quite horrendous which is a reason why i decided to look into 4 door sedans as my business requires me to haul stuff and people around. My minimum requirement was that what ever the car i get, it must be *rwd* as Im one of those guys whom feel like driving a corolla or any other econosh!t box is equivalent to slowly and painfully killing your soul, so performance is a must for me and i finally landed in the debate between a 02 ls430 or 03/06 gs 430 / 460, and oh boy this channel and the videos are everything i wanted to as i was researching for my current purchase. Ive made up my mind, gs gang it is. Thank you for taking your time in compiling and presenting all the most valuable info.
Blast from the past in the best way possible! Cars like this will never be made again unless we're talking some ultra expensive boutique, small volume car...that won't be as reliable brand new as a 24 year old GS..no joke. Love your car dude, anyone who buys one of these things in 2022 really knows cars and appreciated old school Japanese build quality and fanatical attention to detail. These old Japanese cars are full of fun little surprises..some you don't discover for years after purchase😅
Looking forward to seeing the full resto. I have two of these, an ‘01 and an ‘03. One was wrecked last year and I’m still swapping parts from old to the new cause some parts were in better condition on the ‘01. I second your choice of LS wheels. Those are dope and fit the styling of the 2nd Gen GS better than the new wheels.
Never driven a gs400 but my gs300 is absolutely a blast. Yes only 225hp but it's very snappy and in perfect shape. Looking at a gs400 right now. I'd like to have both.🏁🏁🏁🏁👌
1:36 just learned the GS300 has a 2JZ engine in it...and the GS300 happens to be the car at the beginning of the music video for the song "Dead Presidents" by Jay-Z.
The Lox has one in "Money Power Respect", 36 Mafia has one in "Late Night Tip", and I see the dashboard of one in Kanye West's Through The Wire. It's been in a couple Fast & Furious movies, Breaking Bad, and other shows/movies. One of the best cars ever
The 3UZFE in your car is basically the same as the 1UZFE VVTi in the gs400. Confusing how the extra displacement doesn't do much. Also 1uz,2uz,3uz are very similar but 1uz and 3uz are the same block besides the displacement.
I have this same model. I love it! I’m a few miles from 300k, and this thing still Moves! I love driving it. The only thing I don’t like is the navigation unit. It’s annoying lol. So I would love to see what you find doing your research for a new head unit. So if you can, please do a video on the head unit options you find. Thank you 🙏🏾
Hello, I actually installed an android 10.1 with detachable screen for security in my gs300 and it's pretty awesome. I added an extra 2tb hard drive so it stores everything from files to movies and enough music 🎶 to last until Christ comes back.😁 Also using the factory amp but upgraded to speakers to separates front/ rear.
I have an AutoArt model of a second generation Lexus GS400 in silver. I kinda like the GS. A pretty roomy car, very luxurious and relatable, available V8. I would like to have one. My daily driver is a 2015 Toyota Camry XSE 4 cylinder, I like my car for the same reasons you like this GS. The seats and my car reasonably comfortable, I think my old 2004 Honda Odyssey with the leather interior had more softer seats, but my Camrys seats feel more comfortable than my brothers G35 seats.
Such a great review, the GS was never on my radar and after such a well informed review it is now. I have the LS430 with the same engine and always thought about buying an SC, now maybe a GS?
Yea the old SC is nice ( bacially a supra) if you like spirited driving. However it's very difficult to find an SC that has not been trashed and/or ghetto'd out. GS vs LS depends on your driving habits/preferences.
I dont know about a 12.9 qtr mile stock haha but I enjoyed the video. Im probably about to pick up a 430 black onyx as well. 213k. Exterior is also not great but no rust. Clearcoat peel though. Sounds incredible and i feel like a yakuza boss driving it haha

I’m happy to hear it helped! I love mine
Great video and excellent deliver on subject. Thanks for sharing man. I appreciate your craft.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
This channel will be tremendous !
Absolute Pro 😎
Thank you very much!
I'm was thinking about buying one, this video convinced me. I found one for sale for 2k. The owner just has is sitting in the drive way so I made an offer and they said yes.
Helll yeahh, they’re great cars. Go for it!
I been riding GS since day 1 fresh outta high school. I just bought an SC this year. Looking to boost my GS sooner than later!
Hell yeah!
Great review. I am picking up a 09 GS350 next weekend and today just test driving it felt great and smooth. Lexus makes great cars!
Thank you! Those 3rd gens are sweeeet!!! Enjoy it!
@@BernonCars most welcome. Yes can’t wait to see how it goes.
Loved the video man job well done. I drive a '97 Toyota Aristo and love this platform. DMV 4 life!
Hell yeah!!
your Gs is clean!!! Take care of her
Absolutely!
On 2023 what year on this vehicle would you recommend to buy?
Appreciate your input 👍
Great reviews on your Lexus cars.
😎👍
Thank you! I would go for a 2001-2005 GS, they’re all good, but I like the updated platform
@@BernonCars 😎👍
We didn't get the first generation GS in Australia but the 2nd generation was the first series sold here, but only with 2JZ GE and only auto.
If all things go well, I'm going to be looking to buy one soon
You’ll enjoy it! So smooth
Beautiful proportions all around great find
Indeed thank you sir!
@@BernonCars you're welcome
I look forward to the comparisons between the LS430 of the same era!
I’m excited to film them!
I own 2003 GS300 "sport design". That came with "wooden" steering wheel with shifter buttons as standard.
Oh very nice!
Also, you have the best combo in my opinion...black on black
Very nice review, and it looks like you've got a keeper! I'm in the market for a GS now, undecided between the GS300/350 or the GS400 series. Apparently all use premium gas & I've heard that the gas mileage isn't all that great, but there's only about a 1mpg difference between the 6's and the 8's. Might as well go for more power then, but I'm really looking for more comfort. All these Lexus' seem to be supremely comfortable, which my convertible just isn't. Now to find one that's had some love in the past & has a good price tag!
Thank you! Yeah they're suuuucch nice cars. I ended up selling mine because I wanted something sportier, and then ended up buying a truck 😂
May be a little late, but the GS400 throttle body is interchangeable to the GS430. Seen some people on facebook use the throttle cable throttle body from the 400 on the 430 and they say it does feel more responsive
Noted!!
@@BernonCarsDid you ever make the cable change?
My 03 GS300 does have the wood steering wheel. But, it is the Sport Design
Ahhh that’s why. Nice spec!
3rd Gen ES300 did offer Nakamichi sound and real wood inlays. Everything but power steering column
Ohh yeah haha I just wasn’t able to lift it with one hand in the video 😅. So nice that I can fit a full size spare down there!
Awesome review, well done.
Thank you!!
KEEP UP THE CONTENT LOVE THE 2ND GEN GS'S 😍👏👌
Thank you!!!
The edit @4:46 - that 90s red camry just vanishes lol
LOL shit I didn’t even notice that 💀
@@BernonCars all good. keep up the great content and love the love for these older cars.
Nice review brother
Thank you!
I subscribed after, “theres a v6 honda accord next to me, yk whats finna happen” 🤣
Lmaoo hell yeah!! 🤣🤣
Lexus officially quoted the 2nd gen GS430 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and the 1/4 mile in mid 14 second range verified by a few car magazines.
I had a 98 gs with a twin turbo set up. Ran 10s with an otherwise pretty much stock engine.
New subscriber here keep the content coming as your videos and information are fantastic and enjoyable to watch
Welcome!! Thank you much!
Your GS is dope Bro. Nice review.👍
Proud owner of a silver 2000 LS400 up here in Canada.
Thank you bro! I love it so much.. Ouuu those 400's are so nice. White 430's are hard to find! Beautiful!
I personally would keep the factory head unit to keep it mint. I think there’s a hack to tap into the head unit to make a line in. When I bought my SC, the previous owners figured it out.
Wish yours had the stock chrome 17’s on still but dam bro those gs350 wheels clean
10:18 The only Lexus models with a handbrake are as far as I know the first generation IS and the second generation manual IS.
I’m happy you found me then!! Plenty more 00’s Lexus content to come!
Right! They really don’t make em like they used to
I am surprised how many people never mentioned that the first gen GS is huge. I believe it is even larger than an LS, at over 5 meters long.
Excellent review dude. I was going to get one years ago, but got a Cadillac DTS instead. Strictly for the V8. GS was a close 2nd choice
Thank you! DTS is a nice car!! Smooth
If you have race gas available near you , I recommend it although it's expensive
Thank you! I’m very excited for spring. Yup I got the LS wheels already!! They look so good
Very good review 👍👍👍Thank you
Never driven a gs400 but my gs300 is absolutely a blast. Yes only 225hp but it's very snappy and in perfect shape. Looking at a gs400 right now. I'd like to have both.🏁🏁🏁🏁👌
Such good sedans
1:36 just learned the GS300 has a 2JZ engine in it...and the GS300 happens to be the car at the beginning of the music video for the song "Dead Presidents" by Jay-Z.
Ohh yeahhhh!
When you opened your door and I saw the wood on Black leather 😍😍😍😍
The 3UZFE in your car is basically the same as the 1UZFE VVTi in the gs400. Confusing how the extra displacement doesn't do much. Also 1uz,2uz,3uz are very similar but 1uz and 3uz are the same block besides the displacement.
Great video, you are a good presenter, considering a GS 430 or 540i
I have this same model. I love it! I’m a few miles from 300k, and this thing still Moves! I love driving it. The only thing I don’t like is the navigation unit. It’s annoying lol. So I would love to see what you find doing your research for a new head unit. So if you can, please do a video on the head unit options you find.
Thank you 🙏🏾
Still figuring it out! This is the first car that I've had to do months of research on harnesses and such LOL
Great cars , pity we never got the gs400 here in Australia
Nice review. Looking for a gs 300 2005-2010 right now. Driven rx 300 but dont luke the expensive air suspension.
Thank you!
Cool video, I'm in the process of buying a new car? The gs is at the top of my list.🎉
Good choice!
X pipe, 2.75" exhuast.... heaven.
I need another one of these
Love this detailed video, great work fam 💯
Thank you bro!
Such a great review, the GS was never on my radar and after such a well informed review it is now. I have the LS430 with the same engine and always thought about buying an SC, now maybe a GS?
Thank you! You kinda get the best of both worlds with the GS!
Yea the old SC is nice ( bacially a supra) if you like spirited driving. However it's very difficult to find an SC that has not been trashed and/or ghetto'd out.
GS vs LS depends on your driving habits/preferences.
It is! And yes I agree moreover I think older is better with tlc.
Nothing like them!!
I have a GS430 too! Just shot a video on my exhaust mod. It’s pretty terrible but it’s my first 430 video😅
Ha same mileage I got mine at! LOL
@@BernonCars It’s well taken care of, tons of maintenance records and recent maintenance. timing belt, ac servo, control arm bushings, trans fluid.. ran good. just need to get an aftermarket carplay head unit in there. the bluetooth transmitter he has is staticy. 👎
@@AlexSchwartzATV yeahh I’m sick of using an fm transmitter, can’t wait to buy me a new headunit!
@@BernonCars Is it plug n play as long as you get the climate control from regular GS? and of course a din surround
Yessir. I picked up a non nav climate control from the junkyard already. From what everyone online says, it’s plug and play
I love those gs 430!!!!
2001 GS430 previous owner here, mine was pearl white, mint condition I drove and owned it for about 3 years, unfortunately I drove it without oil one time and the car seized and that was the end of it, ended up being scrapped and sent away somewhere.
Damn that's sad!!
10" subwoofer in back that kicks ass!!
Love the GS ...I've had 2 and cant say a ton good and not too much bad about them and the 300 is a super inexpensive way to get into a 2jz (na). Highly recommend
Totally agree!
I can’t believe I never knew they did a GS 430/460? 🤷🏼♂️
I own a 91 Soarer 4.0 LTD (rhd) here in Texas. (Very low mls)
Yeah!! Oooo nice
Had gs300 just like this for 6 years
Black 2001
Bought it for $9,000 cash in 2008 with 98,000
Exchanged it 2014 for s550
