That's a great question! Without knowing the details of your situation, in general I would suggest avoiding exercises that require deep flexion (rounding) of the spine. Exercises that are done with a neutral (think straight) spine will be better as you heal. With a herniated disc, you want to think of creating more space in the spine and in between each vertebra. So anything that emphasizes lengthening the spine is good!
