When a professional sports team drafts a generational talent, they often turn over the reigns to them right out of the shoot, and build the team around them. Sides and Fever were scared/hesitant to do that, and it took them until the break to realize that everything will be okay when they did. I'm sick of hearing that it took CC a while to adjust to the W. It took the Fever a while (longer than it ever should have) to adjust to CC. They should have given her the full reigns for the first game, and made sure KM was on board by convincing her it would benefit her, which it did. She came in not just as a star scorer in college, she was a star assist leader, AND well above average in rebounding. All three of those carried over into the W, and as we know the passing/assists are at a level never seen before . . . and yet she scores and rebounds too!
Oh yea no doubt, Fevers will bounce back! In fact, they can make it to the final BUT not with their present Coach. Coach Sides is not ready for coaching players at this level. Her couching errors are basic things you lean not to do in jr high. Fevers are not winning because of Sides, they are winning in spite of Sides Oh by the way - CC’s eye injury was definitely and without question deliberate! My thoughts: 1. Fever needs to make significant roster adjustments. A number of the roster decisions Lin Dumb has made in her current stint as GM such as awarding massive contracts to Erica Wheeler and Katie Lou Samuelson haven't worked out so well. (To be fair, Wheeler did get better after Olympic break.) Making these roster changes will require negotiating trades, free agent contracts, etc. 2. Lin Dumb waived a promising young defensive talent (Celeste Taylor) in order to make room for Dantas. Even though defense was a fever weakness and Celeste was a two time defense player of the year in college. She should have waived Kristi Wallace instead, who was pretty worthless throughout the season. 3. Lin Dumb said she tried to make some deals before the trade deadline but wasn't able to complete any. 4. Lin Dumb's golden girl Christie Sides is still showing inability to make good in-game decisions such as calling timeouts, challenging ref decisions, adjusting substitutions, etc. Regular season is over, playoffs are happening, and Sides still hasn't figured these things out. 5. The CBA will be renegotiated next year, leading to renegotiation of individual player contracts. Lin Dumb might not be looking forward to all those negotiations. Lin Dumb is 77. Maybe she'd rather not do all that wheeling and dealing any more. Maybe she's ready to retire and pass the torch to someone else. If that's the case, it makes sense to announce the new president now, which opens the door for Lin Dumb to retire gracefully saying she knows Fever is in good hands. New president can then hire new GM without anybody losing face. And then new GM gets to figure out what to do with Coach Sides.
Sadly, if she was being honest in her interview with the Indy Star, Dun stays. She said so. She has a history with Dun. That seems to be a recurring theme in Indy. Sides wanted Wallace and Wheeler cause they were buddies. Saxton stays because she is besties with AB. Sides stays because she is buddies with Dun. Dun will stay because she has a history with Krauskopf. I hope she changes her mind, but doubtful. I dont have a lot of faith in Dunn. She traded away McCowan to Dallas and released Alanna Smith after 9 games. And she thinks Sides is great. 😢

Simply making the discarnate observation that firing a coach is the easiest task in an organizational shakeup is meaningless without a follow up comment that makes a conclusion which you didn’t seem to have done. Aside from that, easing out a coach does not mean it’s the wrong task; In bad Sides’ case, it’s likely correct: She does not have assistant coaches who can monitor and report egregious fowls and alerts her when to vociferously object, avoids time out during the appositon’s runs, and she calls them at inoportune times such as when a player is in the process of making a successful layup which leads to losing two points. She substitutes irrationally and is unable to teach players many things: When to switch, when to defend in general especially the perimeter, how not to clump up the paint, and when and how to go back door. This coach is floundering, and fails at teaching these strategies and plays. That’s a lot of strikes against the stilted and deer-in-the-headlights Sides, replace her with a pro coach or with a proven college coach such as Lisa Bluder who is recognized for her humanistic, player-centric teaching and coaching which we all love or a coach with a similar MO.

I would imagine the new Pres already knows exactly what she will be doing as soon as the off-season hits. I am 50/50 at this point on whether Sides should stay or go. I think initially, she was way too rigid in her paint touches being the priority at all costs mentality. That said, all of June and July and most of August, I had very little complaints towards her. Here lately, it seems as though she may be relapsing some to that initially mentality but not sure. I agree about the off-season moves. They have to re-sign Kelsey at this point, even if it takes the league max. They need a dynamic 4 spot like a Sabally. I would like to see them keep Wheeler as well but at a much lower salary than what she is currently getting. She is a helluva teammate and morale booster for the team and at this point, becoming a fan favorite.

I gave the league a chance this season, and CC22 ain't enough to make me come back for another. Clark wilts in the big moments and the big games. She doesn't make the shots that break the other team's back. In fact she usually bricks. She is the Dak Prescott of the WNBA. From the easy bunny shots missed by these "pros," to the horrible officiating, to the drama on and off the court homie is done. Bet there will be a drop in viewership next season because any sports dude I know feels like I do and has either stopped watching or won't be watching again.

I gave the league a chance this season, and CC22 ain't enough to make me come back for another. Clark wilts in the big moments and the big games. She doesn't make the shots that break the other team's back. In fact she usually bricks. She is the Dak Prescott of the WNBA. From the easy bunny shots missed by these "pros," to the horrible officiating, to the drama on and off the court homie is done. Bet there will be a drop in viewership next season because any sports dude I know feels like I do and has either stopped watching or won't be watching again.

No coach will ever be good enough for you guys. Everyone knows it. So don’t expect them to jump when you say so. Clark would have more change of coaches than Lebron.

That they do. Crickets when Clark poked Hamilton twice in the eyes or with that Minnesota player she poked then clearly brought her hand up again and missed.
