I have to say that a week ago I did not even understand what was going on. I stopped over to my best friends house and we were talking about drums. We were sharing vids of cool drummers and I asked if he wa familiar with the Purdie shuffle. We watched some tutorials on it and I started to get it. I am not laying down a strong beat, but I understand more than I did a week ago! I will have this soon! And it will be another thing that I never thought I would ever be able to do! Such a great feeling to be making headway in accomplishing something that has always been impressive to me!
I’ve watched a lot of videos on this trying to figure it out. I got it now thanks to this video. Mike has a way of explaining complex ideas and breaking through to non music school people like me. He hooked me up! Mike you are a brilliant teacher!
Hi Mike, Dave from the land down under.Just starting back on drums after fourty year break. Love your videos mate, truly giving me inspiration to travel back down memory lane.Your breakdown of the purdie shuffle was brilliant and much appreciated.
This is the most effective lesson I have seen for the Purdie Shuffle. The taking it apart and learning it in stages is great. The drums sound great as well! The cymbals are exceptional.. what brand and model?

For some reason I really struggle to do the two high hats after the ‘loud’ snare. It’s like I just can’t get those 2 high hats to groove
This is a tricky one man, take your time and keep working! Thanks for watching :)
Perfect:)
Could you maybe suggest some typical hihat openings please?
On this feel? Maybe...
"+" of beat 1 (like Fool In The Rain)
"4"
"+" of beat 4
Rosanna!

⚡️
oh no i've gone cross-eyed
The key is the backbeat right and left on the 3!
Ghost note trip immediately follows. Then back into the pattern
Practice that and you got it
