    I don't think that was a fair comparison, you only used the hair dryer for exactly 20 seconds only??? 20 seconds will not get that big wrinkle out??

    If you're here to shrink a leather JACKET and you don't have a heatgun and only have a blow dryer, it's not going to work. You will use a iron on medium setting, and iron the parts you want with a very thin piece of cloth on top of the leather or paper - that brown packaging paper works perfectly, but i didn't have one, so i just used a t-shirt and it worked, it finaly fixed my shoulders which looked weird.

    Are there any side effects to heating the leather? Will the heating make the leather brittle even when using conditioner? I plan to do this but I don't want to make things worse afterward.

    • @LeatherSeats
      @LeatherSeats  5 лет назад +2

      Richard Rama Every hide will take heat differently and each section of a hide may take heat differently which increases risk when using a heat gun. You can certainly overheat the leather which will dry out the leather and permanently ruin the grain and harden the leather. However, if the leather is heated correctly and does not take any damage during the process there will not be any lasting change to its longevity or durability.

    How do I get the wrinkles out on vinyl if it destroys it so quickly?

    • @LeatherSeats
      @LeatherSeats  6 лет назад

      Samsung User We typically like to use steam on vinyl. Steam will not get as hot as a heat gun however it will still heat the material enough to make it more malleable. With steam you still need to be carful but its not nearly as tedious. We would recommend using a steamer that has a longer nozzle so that you can reach up through the upholstery during the installation and steam the inside of the upholstery. If you have any further questions be sure to give us a call at 1-866-639-7328 or email us at sales@leatherseats.com.

      Noah Vertucio The hair dryer we used may not have been the most clean dyer out there, however, not matter what condition the dryer is in, using a household hair dryer does not give you enough power to heat ratio to produce major effects on wrinkles. What a leaning process. I have a seat with a soft crease to take out on the front below the legs How would I begin?

    • @LeatherSeats
      @LeatherSeats  4 года назад +1

      mrjata It depends on the crease itself but firstly you need to make sure the area with the crease is real leather and not vinyl. Do not use a heat gun on vinyl. You may want to use a steamer to get up in between the foam and the upholstery for a more gentle heating process or you can use a heat gun as long as it is real leather. A heat gun may be easier because you might not have to remove the seat from the vehicle. However, using a heat gun is always a bit risky. Have a wet wash cloth on hand and constantly wipe the area down as you go to prevent the surface from getting too hot. If the leather gets too hot for your fingers, back off with the heat for a bit. While the leather is hot, massage and pull it in the opposite direction of the wrinkle to counter the crease. Depending on how long the crease has been there it might not completely come out. Be sure not to over do it with the heat because every leather seat takes heat differently. If you have any questions feel free to email us photos of the seat to sales@leatherseats.com and we can take a look.

    • @LeatherSeats
      @LeatherSeats  4 года назад +1

      Taza Leather You never want to use a heat gun on vinyl because it will permanently damage the vinyl almost instantly. As for cloth you might be better off using a steamer to get moisturized heat into the material. That said, every application will vary and require specific attention. Just approach the project with caution.

    I thought they say that heat can destroy leather, that it will make if very stiff and it will start breaking?

    • @LeatherSeats
      @LeatherSeats  4 года назад

      karosi Creative DIY Too much heat or heat applied incorrectly can damage leather but if you apply the right amount properly it can get you a much better fit and finish on your install. Using steam is always recommended for installation but with a heat gun though, you need to be somewhat experienced and extremely careful as it can damage the leather very quickly. To avoid your leather getting stiff and breaking it needs to be properly taken care of. Using steam during the installation will not hurt the leather but it does need to be conditioned every few months and cleaned using a gentle leather cleaner fairly often.

    Katzkin leather in my 21 ram 1500 and the bottom cushion has an area where the leather is loose !

    • @LeatherSeats
      @LeatherSeats  3 года назад +1

      Matthew Boutilier Heat gunning can help tighten leather but it can also greatly damage it if you are not careful. Never do this on vinyl though. Steam is another way to work out wrinkles however the results from either method will vary based on the age/state of the leather. Please give us a call at 1-866-639-7328 or email sales@leatherseats.com and we can give you more information.

    What's the temperature used on the heat gun?

    • @ArJuna22
      @ArJuna22 4 года назад +2

      The heat gun temperature varies with distance and airflow. A heat gun can generate temperatures as high as 1500°F or as low as 200°F. Typical use will be between 300-1000°F. Most heat guns have an adjustable airflow vent on the intake and a switch to control the number of elements in use. He said in this video he used the heat gun on the low setting. I would never use a heat gun on leather. Heat is an enemy of leather and while it may have no immediate impact on new fresh leather it will impact the life of the leather. I don't understand why anyone would worry about a few wrinkles in the leather. I recommend using mink oil on leather to keep it from drying and cracking over time. If I HAD to use a heat gun on leather I would apply mink oil just before and after applying heat. This will help keep the leather soft and flexible.

    • @LeatherSeats
      @LeatherSeats  4 года назад +2

      Kimberly Brown lol The problem you will run into with the hair dryer (even the expensive fancy ones) is that there is too much moving air with the heat to be effective on the leather. The heat gun puts out a ton of heat will much less moving air which is what you want in order to hit the surface temperatures needed to smooth out wrinkles.
