Supremely cool that you guys showed Hamm my artwork but the greatest achievement of this interview was bringing up M.A.N.T.I.S and asking about a continuation.
This is gonna be a stupid comment but it's surreal to see the unseen force behind your childhood, and on top of that see that they're just like everyone else. Likes, dislikes, some things you agree with them on and others you don't. As kids, we're more likely to take things at face value so to see the thought that went into all the decisions in the film is really interesting.
Thanks for the shout out! Great episode as always! Awesome to see how much you guys have grown recently in terms of what guests you bring on and viewership!
Hamm talking about Joker’s philosophy made a small detail add up; Joker’s goons all have minor makeup appliances to make them scarred/deformed/tattooed in some way on their faces. That’s an extra bit of character lore to know that Joker intentionally sought to surround himself with scarred misfits after his acid bath
Great podcast so far! Lord willing we could get one more Hamm, Burton, Keaton Batman movie and I would be giddy. Love Batman 89’ too, read them with the wife!
I want to say that I'm glad you guys are picking up the baton from Fatman on Batman. I really miss the days when Kevin did more than media hype and was able to leverage his fame/career to get a lot of the involved parties of various Batman projects on his show. It's been really cool hearing from people behind the scenes here. I haven't perused your full catalog but it'd be cool to see some episodes regarding animated content as well.
Great show; just when you think you know everything, the man himself brings out some more tidbits. Like the grapnel gun, there’s one mystery left where there’s an unknown gadget that never made it into the film. Also, I know it’s tough to explain continuities to people that aren’t fanatics, but the mainline DC comics have confirmed that the 89 universe is a canon alternate universe in the recent Crisis comics.
Hello Superhero Stuff You Should Know great job Ben & Andrew it was awesome/insight interview with Sam Hamm great man loved his 89 comic run right now and best podcast i heard this year keep awesome content have good week.
Granted, I saw the movie before I ever knew about Joe Chill, but I've never had a problem with Jack Napier/Joker being the killer of Bruce's parents. Also never had a problem with Alfred letting Vickie into the Batcave. Makes perfect sense in the context of the film. (Bruce was about to tell her himself he was Batman in their previous scene together.) I thought the dialogue in Batman Returns when Bruce admonishes Alfred for letting Vickie in the Batcave was far more contrived and unnatural.
Love Philip Jose Farmer Everyone should read his Riverworld series. Doc Caliban which was Doc Savage. Lord Grandrith which was Tarzan Doc Savage His Apocalyptic Life.
Great get. Now if you can get Daniel Waters who did Batman Returns that would be an awesome follow up. I’ve heard he’s kind of a recluse these days but hey I’d check that out.
Superhero Stuff You Should Know is among the best in getting new knowledge from the craft of Batman media! BTW: As for Batman 2, the online Hamm Script have pages 87 and 101 missing on the online sceenplays, if it's ever possible to reveal those the next time around.
I always wondered why "Axis" was the name of the chemical plant in this movie. It's a cool name, sure, but it's not faithful to most other versions of the story. One film critic theorized that Burton wanted to suggest that Batman was a sort of extremist law-and-order fascist "superman," which is why in one scene he's posed just below the neon sign. From the start I thought it was very likely that the plant's name was supposed to evoke World War II, but I never was sure how. My personal theory was that, since Jack Napier takes over the plant after he becomes the Joker, the name was a subtle comparison to Adolf Hitler, since both were mass murderers using poison gas to execute people.

Thanks for the post.
Supremely cool that you guys showed Hamm my artwork but the greatest achievement of this interview was bringing up M.A.N.T.I.S and asking about a continuation.
Yeah. Right?
That Bruce Wayne/Harvey interaction reminds me of the Robbie Robertson/Peter Parker interaction in Spider-Man 2. "I heard Spider-Man was there."
I'm really glad Sam got to write his Two-Face, easily the best thing about the Batman 89 comic!
Indeed.
Great respect for Mr. Hamm. What a gift from you guys. It's gonna be a great episode!
Yes. That's right.

So not a stupid comment
Very self aware
Thank you. This answers so many questions I've always had. Sam had some great, funny responses. Here's hoping we get some more Batman 89.
Yeah man.
Akiva Goldsman should be next! You already interviewed two of the Forever screenwriters Batchelers
Yes. They would ask Akiva about his time on the Batman movies.
Thanks for the shout out! Great episode as always! Awesome to see how much you guys have grown recently in terms of what guests you bring on and viewership!
What a wonderful interview guys. Your channel just keeps getting better and better!
Yes.

Now all you need is akiva goldsman and wesley strick and you will have interviewed all the Batman 90s screenwriters. Respect.
Great podcast so far! Lord willing we could get one more Hamm, Burton, Keaton Batman movie and I would be giddy. Love Batman 89’ too, read them with the wife!
The legend himself! You guys surprise me every time with these interviews.
He really is a legend.
Long time coming what a fantastic interview guys!
That's the reason I love Batman 89. First, you interview Lee and Janet Scott Batchler. Then Daniel Waters. And right now Sam Hamm.

New subscriber here; love Batman and also as an aspiring writer it’s very cool to see Mr. Hamm’s thoughts and initiative. Batman Forever >>>>>
Well thanks to that man writing the script cause I wore that tape out along with Returns & Forever back in the day.
Woah!! What?!! This is epic! Can’t wait
It is an epic.
Absolutely amazing episode. Thanks so much!
Awesome job guys. You nailed it once again. Great interview.
I would totally buy a Sam Hamm's picks tpb of all the Batman comics that influenced him for the movie and even just some of his personal favorites.

That movie was so ridiculously influential to Batman, the super hero genre and even hollywood itself that i'm glad DC acknowledges it in some form.

Looking forward to this one
I am as well.

Doc Savage His Apocalyptic Life.
We need the Gordonverse - RIGHT NOW!
Yes. Please do. I have been busting my ass about the Gordonverse.
Wow, only 1 question, Are we getting season 2 of batman 89 comic?
Good question. I'd like to see a volume 2 using the Tim Burton version of the Riddler.
Sam's response seems rather telling...
@@SuperHousePodcast I don't know why a Superman 78 comic series hasn't been done yet.
@@joshuatherighteous2256 and the Burton version of Riddler would be Johnny Depp.
@@SuperHousePodcast I hope I can wait for Batman 95 as well, because it'd follow Val Kilmer's portrayal of Batman/Bruce Wayne.
Best yt channel.
It really is.
Great get. Now if you can get Daniel Waters who did Batman Returns that would be an awesome follow up. I’ve heard he’s kind of a recluse these days but hey I’d check that out.
Hamm is actually our follow up to Waters. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/b9q3j7cgQck/видео.html
@@SuperHousePodcast oh right on. I’ll check that out next. Damn you guys got connections!

Love Sam Hamm and the more Keaton/Burton Batman the better I say
did they address the sudden change from Sean Young to Basinger?
Can't wait
Yeah. Me too.
"M.A.N.T.I.S". Yes. PLEASE!!!

So then Carl Grissom is Paul von Hindenburg ?
@@fredrikcarlstedt393 No, Mayor Borg would be. And Bob is Ernst Rohm.
@@SeasideDetective2 Sounds reasonable .
@@fredrikcarlstedt393 Grissom would be analogous to whoever headed the Nazi party in the beginning.
@@SeasideDetective2 That would be Anton Drexler or Dr Gottfried Feder .
Got to get Goyer next!😉

Sam Hamm could definitely be Max Von Sydow’s brother.
This is so cool
This should be good
Too bad the 89 comic series is garbage
They took the Batman 89 universe and forced some BLM bullshit into the storytelling
