I also want to thanks you for this inspiring speech. It's motivating me especially the "waste time" part. As I am watching this, I should be working on my design assignment for the university which I need to hand in in 2 hours.... Oh boy. Let's get the work done now haha :) (but seriously, it made me think twice about time management)

Thank you for this video, Andrew Kramer. I'm glad you were able to share your passion for this medium with us. In just a few short years Video CoPilot managed to inspire and guide a whole generation of people through the world of VFX and Motion Design. I think it'd be fair to say this, we all cut our teeth on those Video CoPilot tutorials from back in the day. Be it shamelessly recreating what you did and passing it off as our own in the sort of way that youth naivete permits, to learning and grasping the fundamentals that the tutorials were trying to instill and making our own things, taking it down a new path. You made After Effects accessible, and for that, I cannot thank you enough.

This was amazing. I know, as you said, that these motivational videos kind of get you on a quick high but not actually help much in the long term, but I genuinely feel inspired after watching this video. I've been following your work for years, the first tutorial I ever watched from you was how to make reflective water, and watching as you and Video Copilot grew to take on these massive hollywood projects has been amazing. I found myself getting kinda emotional toward the end haha, all I can say is that this video and your work as a whole is simply amazing. Short version: thank you!

Loved the video. It's always a pleasure to watch Andrew talking about situations we all face one day or another, both with his natural humor and his insightful advices. The 20% of lensflare part is priceless, as well as the ending. If I didn't spoiled myself by reading comments before seeing the end, maybe I would have been tearing up like several of you. This is a powerful motivating speech. I salute the guys at Video Copilot for their amazing response and help, as a customer. Probably my favorite company, probably my favorite graphic designer.

Andrew, I just wanna say thank you. You've helped me in so many ways throughout my teenage life, I remember watching your videos when I was 15 going along step by step trying to remake the graffiti tutorial. I actually used the same technique just the other day for a motion graphic... man you're great, and you've gotten me into an amazing industry. I'm now 21 with an Interview with Cartoon Network as a graphics artist done and dusted, I didn't get in unfortunately but the fact is I got that far and you helped me get there. I don't use AE for long time but I still watch your tutorials because I can transfer your ideas with my creativity in to almost every software. Even when I used AE as main compo tool, I wasn't able and never wanted "Copy&Paste" your tutorials in my pipeline. I always wanted to translate it in "my logic" and make it plausible with my knowledge and taste. It's prove what you said about how to apply tutorials' knowledge in smart way and stand out with own style and taste. Otherwise that would be only a competition of "Who is the biggest CG Cooking Book" but fortunately world doesn't work in that.

    Fantastic Keynote Andrew!
I've always wanted to get into VFX and Video Copilot has been a great source of inspiration.
I honestly had no idea that you were involved with Fringe, Star Trek and Bad Robot etc. but then your tutorials have always been of a high standard so it came as no surprise.
    Very emotional at the end.
    Keep up the fantastic work!

Thank you Andrew for all you work and hearth you put into VideoCopilot. I have always dreamed about being a director. Film school was too expensive for my parents so I decided to do it differently- learn myself. Back in a high school I started recording my own videos and doing VFX for them. I really sucked. I tried to do my best but they were really bad. I was thinking- "maybe I should reconsider doing something else...". One day I found your website. All those tutorials, the knowledge that was just right there... It opened my mind. At the same time I was still thinking "I will never be as good as Andrew Kramer!". I decided to do my best and try, just try, to catch up, to try being as good as you. Whenever you released a new tutorial I was doing my personal check: "I learned something new from Andrew, it means that I am still behind him". Today, after a few years I am an employed VFX artist at small game company. I do all the effect and movie cutscenes. I also realized that in some areas I started to catch up ;) Next year I want to open up my own business where I can do games and share my knowledge by doing game VFX tutorials- just like you do. Also, what you say about knowing own priorities, realizing that family is the most important thing in the life is something that should have been told earlier. I know many people who chase their dreams no matter what, they work too hard and eventually loose their loved ones...
I would like to thank you again for everything you do. You are a truly inspiring person and unrivalled idol of mine.

The stuff he was talking about wasn't ground breaking, and there wasn't a whole lot of content for a 47min speech, but I just couldn't stop watching. I've seen all his tutorials and I have great admiration for the guy. He can make anything sound interesting, and he is just a real genuine guy. I have a lot of respect for him and I wish him nothing but the best. Looking forward to seeing what he does next!

This was very insightful! Thanks for uploading Andrew! And it's so amazing that you made the Star Trek intro, I never even knew that, it's amazing! And the ending really messed with my emotions, but almost in a good way. :') You're such an inspiration to me!
