When i retired three years ago I decide to work from stash only, my yarn has its own bedroom and only now have I started to see a dent in the stash. I'm now ready to organize it and found your podcast very encouraging. Thank you
If the yarn in your chair is from Herrschners and it says, “Worsted 8, that just means that it’s worsted weight and the 8 means it’s an 8-ounce skein. If it says, “Worsted 12, it’s a worsted weight yarn and a 12-ounce skein and etc. I made it to the end! It was interesting. I have a BIG Yarn Barn that has many shelves of yarn just shoved in them. Not to mention the storage crates in my bedroom and in one of our outbuildings.
I love the craft area you created! Just a tip...I also make hats for students at the school I work at. Usually 75-100 a year based on the need. Anyway, I use my scrap balls for amazing fun and funky hats for the kids. They love them. I either pull some balls that go together or add stripes to other yarn I have purchased just for hats! At this point I have my balls controlled to an under bed storage bin. I look at it as a way to get creative and it makes every hat different since these children sometimes get the same coat. Thanks for your great videos and ideas!
Late to finding this video, but an idea for scraps you aren’t gonna use is donating them to a local high school art department. The students love them, and it’s extra supplies that doesn’t have to be bought which the teachers love. At least that’s how it is at the high schools I’ve worked at.
One thing that you could do with your odds & ends of yarn is to make crocheted flower blankets. I've seen those several times, & I think they're a nice change of pace from granny squares. You just need a pattern for one flower, then do it in lots of colors, & crochet them together. Have fun with it!
I think I've got an obscene amount of yarn. I gift a lot to crafting friends but I have completely stopped watching the yarn hoarding Podcaster who constantly unbox or purchase for show. Less temptation that way and I concentrate on using what I've got rather than acquiring more. It can get overwhelming if the stash gets out of hand then disorganized. Loved your video. It inspired me to get my habit under control and into some semblance of organization. Yep, it'll end up getting messier as I organize but hopefully like you, I can get it in a more neat stack... I was thinking of taking my small balls and making them into a stashbuster blanket by doubling tripling or quadrupling the strands!!
I really enjoyed this one, and it has inspired me to reorganize my craft room which is desperately needed. I think I am like you and need to see all that I have, and shop through my stash for project instead of stores for a while.
Loved watching tis video. Made me laugh when you said "what have I done" lol. You did a great job. I really need to sort my yarn too, you've inspired me!
It always feels good to be organized. I only make charity blankets for hospice centers and hospitals. I make pocket prayer squares with all the little balls of yarn. Keep going on the organizing and it will look awesome and easier to find what skein you are looking for.
Great organizing idea...but I would put the same brand of colors one in front of the other and on top to keep all the same colors and brands together, so if there is room in the back, you start there ... let's say Red Heart acrylic in blue I would pile them from the back forward and on top, so you can fill in that space and see what you have and not be digging all around as you have them now, because then you know that the yarn in the back is the same as the one in front, then do the same with the next color and so on.....something like the supermarkets do with the merchandise.
I recently did similarly. I also found way more yarn than I remember. At points I found more random balls of yarn from the same colors of yarn I bought later. Ahhhh. I am making it a point to be more intentional with my yarn purchases. If I say NO BUY, I will want to buy. Instead, I look at my stash first and buy if I need supplemental yardage for a specific project. Its better to spend $5 or whatever on a pattern I will use right now, than go buy another $30 in yarn and not even use it! (And that doesn't even touch the printed patterns and books I have.) When you said what have I done, I chuckled. That was ME mid project. I had to take photos of the yarn that WAS organized to remind myself what I had already done.
You did a great job!! It is overwhelming sometimes to see and organize it all but I think you did a great job and made great decisions about your yarn. I have mine in plastic ziplock bags and every so often I need to go through them and get rid of some stuff too. We take it the sharing area at the marina and the yarn always disappears quickly. I keep trying to get through what I have but then I see something new...... But I know I need to use what I have, I live on a 38' sailboat and there's not much room here!! Great job Summer. God bless you. 🙏❤️🤗
Hi Summer, I am always watching all of your videos. It is a lot of work cleaning your craft room. I also need to use what I have. Thanks for reminding me. 😀🧶😀🧶
What a great job! Like a yarn spring cleaning 😊 I did mine recently and was able to donate a lot of yarn I wouldnt use to an older lady. She in turn shared it with a friend, great to see it going to a good home 😊💛 You can relax now and enjoy your yarn room 😊
Saved this yesterday so I can watch today to get inspired to tidy my yarn room starting today, Monday. Probably will take me 2 weeks at least, I figure. I love that you did it this way and not like most do which they just hit record, fast forward and use music! I get so much more inspired by hearing you talk and hearing your ideas, thank you for that!
yes, it is wound in 8 strands and it is a 4-weight worsted. Take all the small and medium balls and start tying them together with a totally secure knot that you can cut close. Then start rolling it up into a ball. Get a good size and set aside, then start a new ball. when you have enough you feel you could make or start a scrappy afghan and give it as Christmas gifts.
I just redid my area a made a huge mess too. In New Zealand we don't have the same classifications as the US, when I asked at the local yarn store for worsted weight yarn I was told worsted was a process, a type of yarn not a weight. 8ply here is DK so your worsted 8ply could go with your dk yarn maybe. Good on you for deciding not to go to the sale and but more yarn, you are stronger than me. tfs. take care, stay safe
I need to do this. To be honest, I'm waiting for my husband to have a work trip. That way I can pull out all my yarn and catalogue it all. You probably already know this but Aran and #4 weight are the same. Just like DK and #3 are the same.
It looks very pleasant now, Summer. Good job❣️I watched your video until the end in two parts! I began early this morning, then spent the day with my grandchildren, and now I finished it. I looked forward to seeing it! 🥰
i made it till the end lol your room looks beautiful .you did a awesome job it looks very tidy and orginaized . you have a lot of beautiful yarns love your channel been here a long time i just dont comment often lol
Hi, Summer! I watched all the way to the end. You did a great job organizing your craft space. As long as you are happy, that's what counts. Good luck on your summer projects. - Paula
Finally, a yarn stash as big as mine. Every time I see the videos where they just take out one tote and fix it I think to myself, I halfway too much. 😆
Hi Summer. Watched your whole video & at first I felt too overwhelmed to start organizing MY craftroom. But this has inspired me! Your space looks great. Fun video. Thanks for sharing. 🧶❣️
I love your area. All my yarns I had to put into large plastic totes and they are being stored in my she shed. Eventually my she shed will be finished and will be my craft area. Sewing, crochet, and scrapbooking will all be out there. Honestly I have probably 3x the amount of yarn you have. I'm working on Christmas gifts already cause I work on a couple of projects at a time. I chose to put ban on me buying any yarn til I start having some empty totes. Lol. You did a great job on your area.
I am so happy to see someone else who feels the need to use up what they have. It took everything in me not to go to Hobby Lobby for clearance, but I need to work on what I have!!
I have been making more since it’s summer too. I’m a substitute teacher. I did cave and go to Hobby Lobby because someone wanted something made with cotton. I don’t have a huge stash of cotton so I went 😞. I only spent about $25 though and I’m currently working up about half of what I purchased.
Hi Summer 👋🏼 I watched to the end. Very nice job on organizing your yarn space. I am like you, I feel I have way too much yarn 🧶 I need to use what I have. Hopefully 🙏 I can stick to that agreement with myself 😆 Blessings 💜💜
Great job on your Area arrangement. I had to laugh when you held up that screw😅. That is me. I even have a baggie with odd screws, tacks, nails lol whatever I can't throw away. Love ya girl 🤗
Love the redo! Thanks for all the great tips and examples. I especially like you foregoing the warehouse sale. Like many of us, I also have scads of extra yarn. We moved last year and now yarn stores are a trek. And though I have made things and donated. I still have too much yarn! Ha! You have inspired me to get better organized (I have always done mine by color) and use up my stash! Thanks again for a great channel and wonderful content!
Thank you for sharing. I think all the open shelves is great. I can not do that because I have some Cats and kittens (I love more then yarn). That being said I have all my yarn organized in clear large totes. Separated by type, color and thickness. I also have 2 totes of what i'm going to and am working on. just sharing in-case others have the same issue. God Bless everyone.
Looks great you did great. I feel your pain, i recently sorted my yarn. I was ashamed of how much yarn I had that i knew I would never use. I did get rid of a lot of yarn and extra hooks . Created zones with space limits, if was too full made myself declutter items not being used. Made a commitment to myself, only buy what i will use and everything has to fit in my cube wall, no bins. I left a cart for projects and a small 3 drawer cart for the scraps.
Loved watching your video. It has reinforced in my mind that at some point I simply MUST be something with my yarn! From on teacher to another, well done for using some of your vacation so successfully 👍🏼 Jinny 🕉
If you feel good in your space now, good! I tackle one area at a time - this month it's hooks and stitch markers. Once that area is cleared, I'll revisit my cotton yarns. For me, small bites work best. Congratulations on getting through the hard part!
Love it I have absolutely no space for yarn 🥺I have a very small home and I just wish I had an empty room available to make it my yarn room one day I have a bag of yarn but I limit my yarn because of the space not fun
Must be something in the air... I cleaned and reorganized my yarn room Friday. Found a use for the pretty Crochet Society boxes... I cut off the tops and have my donut yarns in them and sitting pretty on a shelf. Thinking I might frame some of the tops with the motivational sayings on them. I don't think you can ever have "too much" yarn, just yarn that might be better off in a new home, lol. Anyway, you area looks great!
Summer why don't you pick an accent colour (main) and use your remnants and do a scrap blanket? Oh how I'd love to try those yarn cakes bit expensive in UK but I keep an eye out for sales x
I feel your pain when you look in project bag and forget what you were making. I started taking copy of picture of my project in bag of future project. The original copy of pattern and notes I put in plastic sheet protector in a binder. Helped me a lot. When I get a bag of assorted left overs I usually use them for donation hats to my grandchildren schools and other schools in their area. Any small bits I use on plastic canvas for bookmarks or small scissors Hope this is helpful. Enjoye your podcasts. 🤗
Great Job! It looks so nice!! I need to get mine organized! It is a total disaster! And I have way too much too and need to put myself on a yarn buying ban until I get some used. Happy Birthday to Brandon! God Bless!!
I have the same problem I have more yarn than I know what to do with and I have donated some but still have way too much and I keep seeing everyone doing hobby lobby clearance and decided I am not even going in to hobby lobby and not even bee tempted!
I have a yarn collecting problem. The hardest part is deciding the how. Color, fiber, balls, skeins, cakes. One you figure that out it gets easier. Until you need something and tear it apart then change your mind and put stuff back where it fits :). I think we have all been there!
Your craft area looks great. I have way too much yarn myself. I have no clue where to put it all my room is a disaster area. I work 6 days a week. Planning to take vacation soon and going to tackle the yarn. You are giving me motivation thanks for sharing..🙂
I made it to the end! Thank you for sharing your reorganization. It motivates me to go through my stash. I was wondering if you could share what you use in your amigurumi doll necks to give them support? The item I was using is no longer available and I need to find something else that works. Thank you!
It all looks so good, I really appreciate that you have shared this Summer. You have me thinking about my yarn now. This is a smarter way to sort what I have. (I love that you crocheted on the pickle jar!) I also love your sense of humor. I have been working on my craft room off and on. This really helps me.
You did a great job organizing your yarn stash! I did a small reorg myself and I put a hard stop on buying more yarn. I'm getting crochet society and Wacky holiday yarn club from J Hook Crochet but other than that no yarn purchases.
If the worsted 8 is Hershner's, it just means they are 8 ounce balls of worsted weight yarn and worsted 4 is 4 ounce balls. LOL, yes I made it to the end. It looks great, very organized. I go through mine a couple of times a year and it makes a huge mess too. It's the best way to see exactly what you have. Enjoy your newly cleaned and organized space 😎
Of course I watched till the end! Thanks for sharing this. You gave me some helpful ideas. And you gave me hope! I have a bigger mess than you did, and I don't even have a RUclips channel. Part of my problem is that my yarn is in under bed bags (2 beds) and totes and bags, so I can't even see what I have. And I just went to Hobby Lobby clearance...3 times in 2 stores! But I have figured out where I can put a shelf unit, and that should help. Your results look great, and you have inspired me to tackle mine, so thank you! I love your channel.
If you ever feel the need to purge, you know how to contact me. 😁 love how organized you are. What happened to the Star Wars box? I made it to the end my friend!
Watched till the end. You have done a great job. I know it felt overwhelming. But you did it. I don't need to buy anything. I may need to go on a yarn diet. 🤪😜 Happy birthday to your hubby. 🥳 Have a great day. 💞💞💞

Glad you are now organized. Donating is a great idea! Looking forward to what you make! Thanks
I made it thru to the end. What a super job you did. I bet you feel so relieved and proud of yourself! ✌️✌️

This video is so refreshing, especially with all the Hobby Lobby yarn hauls right now. Thank you!!!!!!
BEAUTIFUL !!! An organized craft space makes for a more creative atmosphere. Happy Crocheting 💙
I am impressed that is some commitment of hours, we made it to the end with you, well done!
Loved watching tis video. Made me laugh when you said "what have I done" lol. You did a great job. I really need to sort my yarn too, you've inspired me!

You made me giggle with the “GoGo’s”! The Herrschner’s worsted 8 is just an 8oz ball of worsted yarn 🧶. Great job tackling such a big project!
Hi, Summer! I watched all the way to the end. You did a great job organizing your craft space. As long as you are happy, that's what counts. Good luck on your summer projects. - Paula
Watched all. Aran is a equal to our 4 wt. Looking good.
Way to go Summer. That is quite an accomplishment. I need to do the same thing with all my yarn as well. Thanks for the inspiration.
Summer yay you did it! It’s really hard tearing everything out and reorganizing but it looks great 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🧶🧶🧶🧡
Finally, a yarn stash as big as mine. Every time I see the videos where they just take out one tote and fix it I think to myself, I halfway too much. 😆
Great job! I always enjoy seeing before and after spaces.
Love it ! As soon as I go on vacation for two weeks I am redoing my craft room.I can’t wait. You gave me some great ideas. Have a great day.
Hi Summer, yep I like how you organized everything. Thanks for sharing!

I watched to the end. Great job on the reorganization. It took me a few days to get my craft room reorganized.
I cleaned my craft room with you. Thanks for motivating me
Thank you for sharing.
You did a great job organizing your yarn, it looks nice, makes a person feel good doesn't it when it's all done, and yep I watched till the end 😀
Nicely done! It looks so good! I love your Summer sign too! I hope to be organized soon too. Have a good one!
And I did make it to end end!
Hey Summer. I'm in process of cleaning up my yarn room too. It's a big job for sure and I may never finish. LOL
Thank you for sharing and good luck
11:36 FYI aran over here in Europe is just our version of your worsted. You can treat them more or less the same.
Hi , your room looks amazing . Congratulations . Enjoy your summer.
I watched it all☺️ job well done, great accomplishment to start off your Summer….. 👏👏👏👏👍🏻
Loved watching your video. It has reinforced in my mind that at some point I simply MUST be something with my yarn! From on teacher to another, well done for using some of your vacation so successfully 👍🏼 Jinny 🕉
Wow you did very well for the amount of yarn you have 🙀😍 👏💐 it looks great and you have inspired me and I made it to the end 👍😍
Nice job Summer, looks great!
Great job, Summer!! Does look so much better😊🧶
If you feel good in your space now, good! I tackle one area at a time - this month it's hooks and stitch markers. Once that area is cleared, I'll revisit my cotton yarns. For me, small bites work best. Congratulations on getting through the hard part!
I should have done that, a little bit at a time! Haha It took almost as long to edit the video as it did to clean things out! Haha
Good work, Summer! It's so "freeing" to get organized. I always feel psychologically lighter after I do it!
Good job! I'm trying to stay away from Hobby Lobby clearance this year and use what I have.
I need to organize my yarn better. 😉
Yarn room looks awesome. You did good.
Great job Summer!! Thanks for the tips.
Summer why don't you pick an accent colour (main) and use your remnants and do a scrap blanket? Oh how I'd love to try those yarn cakes bit expensive in UK but I keep an eye out for sales x
Hi Summer, absolutely loved watching your video. It was good to see how you got all of your yarn sorted, fab job.x
Hi Summer! You did a great job! Loved watching your video
I understand it feels good to finish. I watched to the end.
Yea!!! Thank you , it took forever to edit the video too! 😆
Everything looks really nice , I love it ❤🤗
I feel your pain when you look in project bag and forget what you were making.
God Bless!!
Brandon says thank you!
I have the same problem I have more yarn than I know what to do with and I have donated some but still have way too much and I keep seeing everyone doing hobby lobby clearance and decided I am not even going in to hobby lobby and not even bee tempted!
TYSM for sharing your organizing process ☺️
Hi. Summer. I. Think. Your. Yarn. Room. Is. Great. And. I'm. Sure. You. Will. Have. All. Your. Yarn. Just. Where. You. Want. It. When. Your. Done. Love. Watching. Your. Channel. Thank. You. For. Sharing
I watched to the end. I love this type of video. Thanks for posting.
I made a Jayda In Stitches scrap blanket and I love it.
Good idea
It looks fantastic!
I made it to the end! Thank you for sharing your reorganization. It motivates me to go through my stash. I was wondering if you could share what you use in your amigurumi doll necks to give them support? The item I was using is no longer available and I need to find something else that works. Thank you!
I made it to the end 😀 I always watch. Your space looks lovely.
This is inspiring even though my own stash is a little more overwhelming... I started 'shoving' yarn, too. Lol
This is everything! 😄
It all looks so good, I really appreciate that you have shared this Summer. You have me thinking about my yarn now. This is a smarter way to sort what I have. (I love that you crocheted on the pickle jar!) I also love your sense of humor. I have been working on my craft room off and on. This really helps me.
I watched to the end. 😉
You did a great job organizing your yarn stash! I did a small reorg myself and I put a hard stop on buying more yarn. I'm getting crochet society and Wacky holiday yarn club from J Hook Crochet but other than that no yarn purchases.
Ahaaa😅🤣😂 the stick she used for pointing got me. Screams Teacher. My daughter teaches Kindergarten and does that all the time.
Congratulations!! Your craft area looks great! Don’t throw the smaller yarn balls away…make scrappy granny stitch blankets! They look great!
I haven't been watching any crochet videos much. I did watch this one to the end! Want to come organize my craft supplies?
Looks great!
When I first started collecting my yarn, I had it tore under the bed…moving it to shelves helped me see what I had, so I bought less doubles.
I watched it all and wish I was organized. I can never locate my craft books 🌻
If you ever feel the need to purge, you know how to contact me. 😁 love how organized you are. What happened to the Star Wars box? I made it to the end my friend!
It’s stashed under my table! I need to make those !!! Maybe next weeks project
Watched till the end. You have done a great job. I know it felt overwhelming. But you did it.
I don't need to buy anything. I may need to go on a yarn diet. 🤪😜
Happy birthday to your hubby. 🥳
Have a great day. 💞💞💞
You have inspired me to NOT go to the 4th Hobby Lobby store to purchase more (not needed) yarn. I have enough. Thanks Summer💓💕💓💕💓💕
What a great job 👏❤️🇨🇦
Great job. I enjoyed watching this all the way to the end to compare to what i just did. I also ended up just separating by weight.
I just moved 2 months ago and I am now working on organizing my yarn! You never know how much you have until you organize it all!!! Yikes
I have more yarn than you but you have the organizational options I don't. One day :) Great job!
