I love Amber Glenn for her athleticism but imo, Alysa Liu outskated her in the Long Freeskate but was not rewarded for it in the Program Component Score. Figure skating has evolved into an over emphasis on jumps with too little emphasis on skating quality and artistry, resulting in stiff and unartistic programs. This was characterized with the Russian women. Just one quad and 3A after the other but little beauty in their skating between the jumps. I’ve been watching this event since the Debbie Flēming days and miss the beauty that was once there. Only a few skaters since has captured the beauty of the sport, such as Yuna Kim, Mao Asada, Yuka Sato and Michelle Kwan. And now Alysa Liu who skated with such artistry and beauty her routines will be replayed for a long time. The joy expressed on her face made me realize what has been missing in Women’s FS. With Alysa’s return, the joy is back!
