- Join us as we spend a day in Mainz. We eat a nice brunch and tour the city center. We also go to the Mainz Cathedral and take in it's beauty. We spend a fun day at Gartenschau Kaiserslautern which is a great park near base, and the kids have a blast looking at the dinosaur statues and playing in the playground. We hope you enjoy our fun weekend and many more adventures to come!
Regarding the "staring": Like another YT already said, the German people love to "stare" - and it is really not meant to be rude. I would also look at you and your adorable kids. Moreover, I would also be curious about seeing you vlogging... 😀
Makes a lot of sense when you put it that way. Every culture has its differences so I definitely get it😊! Thank you so much for commenting and thank you also for watching!
if someone ist "staring" at you just smile back and they will smile back at you.
Nice! :-)
1:29 yes, unlike in the US, Germany and other European countries have the "Rechtsfahrgebot" on roads with multiple lanes. Which means you always have to use the rightmost lane unless overtaking.
Exceptions: streets within city limits or if you are in very dense traffic / a traffic jam on the freeway.
Thanks so much I can use all of the German driving tips you can give me 😊🙃
You DEFINITELY got a new subscriber! Welcome to Germany 🇩🇪❤️🇺🇲
There are so many things worth commenting but it was just too much 😁❤️
So glad to have you as a subscriber 😊!!!
I hope, You and your Family enjoy your Time here in Europe :)
Thank you so much! We def are so far!
In a city like Mainz, free parking in the city center is not really realistic.
In this case, "Frei" (free) means that there are still parking lots available in those parking garages. If it comes to parking the word "kostenlos" is used if parking is free (no costs). Some phrases like "Parken kostenlos" or "kostenloses Parken". At some places parking outside the shopping hours or on Sundays is free (more likely in towns than in big cities).
However, if you read somewhere "Eintritt frei" or "freier Eintritt" - this means that the admission is free (no costs). E.g. at some museums or castles.
There is also a day ticket (Rheinland-Pfalz Ticket) for all local public transport covering the states Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland. And also the city of Wiesbaden (Mainz and Wiesbaden are the same local public transport zone - despite being in two different states). Covered are all regional trains, S-Bahn trains, trams, and buses. The ticket costs EUR 25 for 1 person, EUR 31 for 2 persons. Up to 3 children, 6-14 yrs old, are free with this ticket. Children under 6 yrs are generally free. The ticket is valid Mo-Fr from 9am till 3am the next day. On Sa or Su from midnight till 3am the next day.
Also available as Rheinland-Pfalz Ticket Lux which covers additionally also the neighboring country Luxembourg. The price is still the same.
Landstuhl train station has better connections than Ramstein-Miesenbach train station.
Thank you so much for this information!!! So useful and helpful!
Great video! We are always looking for the next city to visit. We would like to see a cathedral soon!
We just went to some caves in Homburg! I think your kiddos would like it!
@@FaithMoncivais I would love that we are so excited about our upcoming trips! I will also follow urs so I can better plan!
@@thecalvocrewtv do you have an Instagram!?
@@FaithMoncivais no we don’t but we are considering creating a family one soon…will let you know if we do so we can follow each other!
Aww man! I grew up in Mainz lived on Finthen Army Airbase. Dad was stationed in Germany 🇩🇪 from like ‘82-92. I went to high school in Wiesbaden. We probably visited every Army and Air Force installation as well as many castles. I miss it so much. Enjoy every moment there with your family. Your children will become so well rounded from this experience living overseas.
Thank you so much!!! We are definitely trying to take it all in! Thanks for watching!
@@thecalvocrewtv 😊 oh! If he hasn’t yet your son should try spaghetti ice, ice cream that looks like spaghetti 🍝😊
@@islandgurl4123 omg gurl he would love that!!
@@thecalvocrewtv yeah it was the highlight of living on base when we would have an ice cream truck come on the base 😊 thank you so much for taking the time to chat. I’ll be watching more or your videos. Oh! If you haven’t heard of it yet you must like into visiting Idar Oberstein. A church built into the side of a mountain and the town to walk around.
Will do and of course girly!!! Thanks for watching!
First of all: Welcome to Germany. The pub "Heringsbrunnen" on the right side (the corner house) at 3:11, is where I meet once a month with friends to smoke pipes, gossip, and drink beer.
How cool! Thanks for the welcome! We definitely enjoyed our time there. Thanks for watching!
Aaaaawwwww! Did you not go inside of the cathedral? 🤤 It's awesome... 🤓
We went in, but only visited the bottom floor I had the stroller so we couldn’t go up any further! I will definitely go up further when I am with my husband in a future vlog! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching😀
Keep it up and across the Rhine River it's the Wiesbaden Army Base therefore you might find your fellow US Military service members in Mainz. If based in Wiesbaden they also have the tendency to visit your base Ramstein Kaiserslautern military Community for the super Bx
It is a huge bx so I can see why!
Actually the western roman empire ended between 470 and 480 after christ, so if this cathedral is around 1000 years old it was build a few hundred years after the roman empire vanished from western civilization. Nevertheless, great and entertaining video and thanks for the upload! I wish you all the best and welcome to germany!
So Interesting! I love historical facts and cathedrals, so thanks for the correction and thank you for your comment!
@@thecalvocrewtv At the time when the Cathedral was build existed the so called "Holy Roman Empire of German Nation". They saw themselves as the rightful successors of the Roman Empire, as did Constantinopel (East Roman Empire). Can be quite confusing. Now on to your visit to my hometown, Saarbrücken.
Welcome to Germany 🇩🇪 😀
We're staring at everyone and everything. It's not meant rude or to make you uncomfortable. It's just the way we are.
I get it now…it definitely was a culture shock at first though 😊! Thank you for stopping by and watching our video, I hope you enjoyed it!
I'm little late but nevertheless, welcome to germany, wish your family an awesome time here. and i have to admit, compare to north americans we stare a lot, but no offense intension, 99% of the time it's pure curiosity. if there is a green FREI at a parking-lot it only means that there are lots available (free) so you don't drive in only to find out it's already full, unfortnatually you have to pay anyways.
We get it about the staring every country has its quirks:)! Everyone has been sooo nice to us since arriving! Thank you so much for subscribing and for the info!
If I remember it correctly there is a grace period of like ten minutes. During this time you can use your ticket as an exit pass as well - without paying. Police uses this feature for driving through and checking plates
American here🙋🏻♀️ We felt weird about the staring at first, but you get use to it! We actually try to make eye contact when we know they are looking at us lol
@@FaithMoncivais I will definitely try that next time haha
welcome to germany..hope you react to yorurs first currywurst and döner..🤘🤘🤘
Thank you!
there are app that translates using the camera in realtime, perfect for menus etc.
Thank u!
I don't think there are too many Afro-American people in Germany, especially in the smaller towns (Mainz is kinda small) there you are something special, so people look at you especially. The big german cities like Frankfurt are way more multicultural, the people behave different there..
That makes complete sense! I can’t wait to go to Frankfurt… it’s def on our list. Thanks for your comment and for watching!
"Mainz" pronounced = mines ;-)
Thank you😊
