Hi Walkers, today we walk around the Central Station or Hauptbahnhof of Mainz in Germany. Mainz Hauptbahnhof ("Mainz main station", formerly known as Central bahnhof Mainz) is a railway station for the city of Mainz in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is used by about 60,000 travelers and visitors each day and is therefore by far the busiest station in Rhineland-Palatinate. The station was a trial area for a CCTV scheme using automated face recognition.

What a great video. It sure does bring back many good memories. I was stationed in Mainz - 1978-80. Robert E. Lee Barracks. When I had free time I would go downtown to the area depicted in this video. Some of the places I vaguely remember. The "Hauptbahnhoff" has really been expanded and modernized. I noticed a McDonalds. There were no McDonalds at that location. The only McDonalds I remember was in Wiesbaden. I ate there once. We used to joke that you could only eat there on payday. The video brought a big smile to my face. Good memories. Thanks to whoever recorded this and posted on RUclips. As during the time I was stationed there (twice) with the other duty assignment at Frankfurt (1968-69) during both tours, I always noticed how clean the streets were. In this video, the streets seemed to be very clean, as well. I often rode the "strasse" (street car) and rode the train to many German and European destinations. A fabulous way to travel. Thanks again!

I was there 74-76. I remember getting on the bus in Wackernheim to go to the Hauptbahnhof in Mainz.
