When I worked as an engineer for URS (United Research Corporation) the company was selected by the U.S. Army to provide Rotary Wing Flight Training at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) in Fort Rucker, Alabama. We trained every one of the pilots and mechanics that were assigned to helicopter duty. Those were some really fine men and women. I enjoyed every minute of my career there.
I'm still pleasantly pissed!😂. Flew H46/H3 & H1's in Navy (CC/RS...CSAR). Gave 46s/1s to Marines (parts?). Pissed at the 4 blades/weaps/upgrades the Marines got for the Hueys! Yes, cryin in my beer!😢😂😂😂. One saving grace for me though...Roped out at 80ft/80kts to quick-stop, locked off & slung 80ft/120kts, in launch & turn, was parallel to helo, 400lbs in tow. Yee haw!!! And yes...I will jump outta an H3, full gear from 50ft/50kts into ocean(cement) again!!!. Have fun and be safe outhere me-hardy's😊.
As the list of conflicts where helicopters were employed was crossing the screen, my thought was that in most of those conflicts, the side employing helicopters lost. I'm not writing that use of helicopters caused the losses, but taking notice that their use didn't lend significantly to winning.
They contributed greatly to the survival rate for our wounded and they contributed greatly to the survival of the ground troops. I hope you and I never meet.
