There is a German player called Frank Mill. Today people still ask him about his miss for Dortmund 35yrs ago. Sometimes football fans only remember your low point. For me, I'm always a fan. Thank you for all you did for the national team.

Yakubu is the 3rd highest goal scorer of all time for the Super Eagles. He miss a chance but score so many important goals also. Messi and Ronaldo missed more seater goals also, gyan missed a penalty that could have given Ghana and Africa there first semi-final in a Worldcup, but they never bullied them. Nigeria can do better, I have defended Yakubu anywhere i see any of those rat ranting abt 14 yrs ago, They will receive sense by force. Big respect YAK!!!!

Yak, you missed the goal because you were actively working for your country. Those who do nothing will never make a mistake.
Nigerians should always accept both good and undesired results from their players, after all it's a game.
    We celebrate you Yak.

It's not missing that goal that still gets most persons who are still angry irritated; it's the fact that Yakubu said he will never apologize and he has never.
We see players make less errors and come to apologize and everyone moves on and it's no big deal. But when you are proud like Yakubu, you will have to deal with people who are still mad.

The problem with that miss was that it overshadowed probably one of the worst tournaments I've seen from Nigeria from a tactical perspective. For a majority of those games Yakubu was isolated chasing lost causes while the likes of odemwingi and martins were on the bench. Every game those two came onto the field with Yakubu upfront we looked better attacking, and I'm left wondering why we didn't play like that from the beginning. The game against Korea was a great example of this, we never created enough chances throughout the game as our manager decided employ a reserved game instead of being more brave.

Though I blamed yakubu to a certain degree for missing that goal, I also realize that most players would have missed that opportunity too. But his reaction after the miss was more painful. I also realize that the movement of the ball while in motion and at certain speed at any point in time determines to a certain degree where it goes when you kick it. Its simple physics. However, his reaction also showed he didnt really position his legs well with an aim to score knowing the football event he came for which is the world cup.

It's a very bad miss because he shouldn't even be aiming for that corner in the first instance. As a professional why was his posture set up like that? There were no defenders around him and the goalkeeper made a mistake rushing away. So why does he set up his posture for the corner and isn't actually even facing the goal? It is interesting because when I watched it live and even several years after, I thought it was a bad miss like everyone else that has missed sitters before, but it is actually even WORSE than I thought. Because even if he had scored, it is a weird posture.
He had like 100 different parts of the goal he could have targeted and easily scored in and he chose one of the harder ones for no reason whatsoever. He should not have been aiming for that corner. You aim for the corner when the goalkeeper is central to you. Basically what it means is that Yak was not paying attention to anything going on and was shooting 100% on instinct.
