As a woman wearing my hair buzzed at 8mm, I experience exactly the same when it comes to people giving their opinion about it all the time. I´m either caring too much about being stylish and looking special or not caring at all because I don´t want to deal with long hair which is funny because I used to have very long hair down to my hips fore more than 10 years and just wanted to donate it. Why can´t everybody just wear their hair the way they want to? I don´t get it.

      WORD!
The people, who really are too busy caring about appearances are the ones, who constantly comment on the hair styles of other people. What's their problem? They just literaly have to turn themselves around about 90 degrees and their life is as beautiful as it was before they saw someones disruptive hair choice. Seems like, we both don't get it and probably never will.

You can... but buzzed hair for women is just bad. Hell, not many men can pull it off either. There comes a point where you are just lying to yourself about whether it looks good or not. 99% of the time having some form of hair style of at least an inch will always look better. Even a pixie cut looks better on women than being almost or nearly bald. When the 90 percentile of humans share the subjective opinion that women look better with longer hair, there is some sort of objective reason for it somewhere. Whether a man looks good in long hair or not depends entirely on their appearance as a whole and mostly the quality of their hair. But with care can be pulled off. Being bald almost requires having a well groomed beard and fairly big muscles to pull off for men. Perhaps its because it tends to look sickly and so you need to exaggerate the health of your body in other places to balance it out. Women tend to not have that option unless they take hormone therapy / trt or roids.

Ya'll can take some tips from us women who have long experiences with the upkeep of long hair; 30 mins before shower, wet your hair a little bit and apply the conditioner like a hair mask ... Let it sit for 20-30- mins and then wash. In that way, you don't have to wait too long in the shower for the conditioner to work.
Plus i find that the conditioner sits better on semi dry hair; in the shower, it tends to run on wet hair and half the amount of your product goes down the drain.
Instead of water, you can also apply some oil and then the conditioner (The oil can be applied up to 2-3 hours before).
AVOID conditioner on the roots because it will turn your hair greasy faster and pile lots of chemicals on your scalp, causing lots of hair fall down the road.

I get a lot of comments of me wanting to re-live my hippie days. Or, "When are you going to grow up?" (answer : NEVER!) When I was a kid in the 50's and 60's my parents made me get a buzz cut. This was the trend for young boys at that time but I HATED it! When long hair became popular for guys starting in the late 60's, I felt liberated! Although employers rarely agreed. Now at 70, an important reason I grow my hair long is BECAUSE I CAN!!!. Many guys my age no longer have hair to grow.

  • @pinkapotamus9266

My son is 18 and has grown his hair out for the past 2 years ( it’s to his shoulder blades) to donate to a wigs for kids charity- I love it on him and hope he always keeps it longer. Personally, I have long hair and agree with most of these reasons to hate long hair! But have to add- getting it caught in the seatbelt or trapped under my husbands arm when we’re sleeping and I roll over...ow! and with the wind- wearing lipgloss or even chapstick makes it even worse. And my personal hatred is the hair wookiees that get left in the shower! You both look great and you can still go to the barber shop for a shampoo, deep conditioning treatment, scalp massage, and trim to keep your locks lush!

You know MOST women prefer short hair (that's why it's so popular amongst men). Also no women is gonna randomly compliment you for having short hair the same way I wouldn't randomly go up to a woman and compliment her hair. Women may be complimenting you because they love that another man has better, longer and more lucious hair than her even if they may not find it attractive. They wanna know what products you use in your hair. That's like if I see a really muscular woman at the gym, I will compliment her for her hard work and ask her for her workout routine even though I really dont find muscles attractive on women.
Even when I had long hair, i would have women come up to me and ask what products i use in my hair etc. However literally everyone finds me to be much better looking with short hair. Most men say they became more attractive after cutting there hair.

Okay, no. Wind is fun, and is much more fun when I have long hair. You seem to be under the impression you have control over your hair - for me that has always only been an illusion. My hair does its own thing. And if its will and my wishes collide, it'll get braided. Which happens often, I admit. But still, wind is one of the fun perks of long hair.

  • @mrfaolan
    @mrfaolan 4 года назад +9

There is still a lot of discrimination towards long haired men. The trends defined by the fashion industry can become a dictatorship and I think it's important to bring this subject up more often to educate people and help shape the trades and the industry into being more accepting and socially sustainable. I had long hair for about 10 years from the early 90's - to early 2000's and the amount of discrimination and preconceived ideas I had to deal with where unbelievable. I am a portrait and fashion photographer and decided to start a photography project dedicated to long haired men called #LongIsBeautifulProject precisely to fight negative stigma against long haired guys and to help bring back long hair into the fashion trends. I think it's important that photographers, magazine editors, TV and Cinema directors, modeling / talent agencies, etc - are aware of this issue and try to shape these industries into being more sensitive and acknowledge the fact that their decisions can affect a lot of people's lives. Long haired guys should appear more in the media and I think that what you guys are doing is awesome and very positive.

These are all true! I have been growing my hair over the past year and a half. Its shocking how people will just walk up and tell me to cut my hair! I'm not one that likes attention or standing out. That is one reason I let my hair go. I always wore my hair very short. I have psoriatic arthritis and the psoriasis in my head is bad in spots and was visible for a week or two after a haircut. So I decided to grow it out longer and people started with sometimes rude comments and the usual when are you going to cut your hair. One guy who happens to be my homosexual brother in law who I have been very supporting of in a culture that sometimes doesn't had the nerve to ask me why I decided to change my look to dirty hippie! (My wife who is the only one that I care what thinks assures me I don't look like a dirty hippie.) I've also been hit with the line MEN should have short hair!

I'm just starting to experience some of these issues. Had a short cut (#2 around sides/back, ~1" on top) and just let it grow. Currently 14 months in and sort of wish I could hit the barber now with all this downtime to even it out. The hair on back of head is sitting about 3-4" further than the front so while it makes my hair look longer in general, it also looks a bit unkept. The worst part is the front/front-sides are just shy of good length to all be in a ponytail or bun so I have these goofy bangs that dangle when trying. Mostly means hair is worn down, wind messes with it big time. Happy overall though, hair's about 8" and starting to garner comments (mostly good, a few "hippie" comments starting to come out).

    • @MrSunshine251

Exactly the point I'm at now. I had a short hair cut, though a bit longer than yours, and it's been about 12 months since my last cut, save for a couple of weeks ago when I got the wispy bits around my ears and base of the head where the hair doesn't grow any longer. I need about another inch or so of growth on the front before it'll stay when pulled back into a ponytail. I'm enjoying it though. It's the longest my hair's been all over ever - I used to have long hair 6 years ago but it was an undercut. Think I'll re-evaluate once I get to another couple of inches of growth and see how I feel!
      Keep going mate!

After shampooing skip the conditioner in the shower and go for a small amount of hair masque instead. Then when you get out of the shower use a leave-in conditioner and comb it through. Either blow dry it or let it self dry. That I only do if I don’t have to go out for a couple of hours.
That’s the only three hair products I use, shampoo, hair masque and leave-in conditioner. Sometimes I might use a an oil on the ends or a leave-in spray for further conditioning. No hairspray or other crap doing damage on my hair. To be honest I have way more beard products than stuff for my hair.

Always when people ask me about why do i have long hair or why i shouldn't cut my hair i simply answer : why you do have short hair or why you don't grow your hair lol , and they never ask about my hair again xD i just don't know why people consider short hair as reference

  • @Shane7492
    @Shane7492 2 года назад

One of the reasons I hate long hair is when you decide to grow your hair long, the transition phase from short to long hair takes soooooo long. For a beard, no big deal, but the head hair is a real struggle getting through that phase.

LOL. WIND !!! I have considered MOVING to a less windy city because of this! .. Once i was jumping rocks at the beach.. the wind came along, I couldn't see, missed the next rock, and crash landed, hurt my leg and hip, but bruised my ego even more! Now there's a hairtie on my wrist at all times.

I'm at the 5.5 year mark presently, the things I haven't liked about having long hair is the maintenance, the migraines, and how it winds up getting in the way when I go to work on pretty much anything.
Not to mention the knots when I would ride my motorcycle(even when it was tied up with half a dozen hair ties or braided)... those knots were MURDER!
At this point, I figure I'm gonna settle on a longer viking style undercut that I can maintain at home. That way I'll still have some length to be able to style(and for the wife to play with), but have a more put-together appearance, as well as be more practical in my day to day life.

I have had long hair for 38 years, I do not even notice most of the things you guys are hating. Granted I tie mine back in bed or on windy days, I also occasionally use a gaiter as a "dew rag". But everything else is insignificant annoyance to me. I however never wear a "man bun". I sink time into bear care why not my hair as well.

I strongly disagree with reason number 5 because I think with short hair you have far fewer options. It is cut into a style and that's how you wear it, day in and day out. Very few barbers/stylists are talented enough to cut hair that can be worn in different ways.
With long hair I feel I have a lot more choice beyond wear down or wear up. For example, I can bring out the natural wave for that wild, rock star look or I can blow dry/flat-iron for a smoother more professional look. Best of all, my hair looks as good in the morning as it did when I went to bed. My short back and sides used to stick up all over the place and the best part of my morning ritual was getting it to look presentable.
    I agree about wind though!

None of these are modern looks so if you’re in a younger generation growing your hair out n you wear one of these n get flamed for it don’t be surprised. That also shouldn’t stop you from doing what you want with your hair tho cuz no one can tell you what to especially with something as intimate as your connection to your hair.

I tend to use less products, in the past with an undercut each day I would use paste to style it. Now I just use more shampoo and conditioner. The wind is a big factor on the Sailboat, oh boy what a mess. The other issue is heat, much hotter with all that hair. When my hair was short (since apparently my facial looks hasn’t changed in many years) seeing people from high school they would recognize instantly, now with long hair 2 years later they walk right by me 😂. The transition from short to long was the hardest part, in a corporate environment you cant wear a cap during the awkward phase .

I have long hair and beard. I never wear it down. It’s almost pointless to have. I rather hide my hair in normal day to day activities. No one wants to see a dude fussing over his hair. One point of suggestion is quit messing with it like a girl. Let it do what it wants.

Just wear a man bun to sleep, and on Windy days .
When you sleep use some type of satin covering so your hair doesn't dry out, and break off.
Men out there,🤴 unless you're in the military, or have some type of job that requires your hair to be short, 💛 stay true to yourself and wear your hair the way you want.

Finally someone is tackling the stuff we need to sit down and exchange ideas. I first thought this was dad & son. Made me realize that my dad never talked to me about his hair on day one after a shampoo. What kind of man was he?! He wasted all of his time teaching me nonsense like priorities and virtue.

I guess I'm just lucky. I hardly if ever have a single person say something negative to me about my hair. Have had long hair for years and years. Now I will say that any time I've cut if all off I've had lots of comments about it both positive and negative, but never had someone have the gall to say to my face anything about my long hair.
Showers do suck though because its inevitable that even if I'm not washing its gonna get wet and take forever to air dry. And I use cheap shampoo and conditioner. Making sure to use the best for my hair type still but I dont splurge. As for getting caught in stuff yeah it happens sometimes. But I wear a sloppy top bun for bedtime and its usually up or tied back when working. And wind loves my wavy/curly mane. Just pumps up the volume.

I can understand the problem with wind but it’s a whole nother level when you have receding hair. Because it’s necessary to style the hair in a way that covers the problem areas. You think you look good and then outside all your effort just goes away after a few seconds. It’s really frustrating !

Actually Point #5 for me is a advantage. Don't like sitting around in the hair salon, waiting until it's my turn, letting someone snip around on my head, making efforts to have some polite conversations with the hairdresser... meeh.
But I have another point to replace it:
Frizz in the neck during winter! Thick clothes or scarfs are sitting so tight, so that they rub on the bottom hair all day long. At the end of the day, there's just one big hair ball in my neck and the attempt to coam through that area is... pure HELL!
