This is the Mollymauk moment of the campaign for me in more ways than a significant and permanent character death including that campaigns player coming back as a new character to the table with a just as interesting take on their characters themes; (both of Sam’s characters struggle with purpose) but this is also the moment Ashton truly became the Ashton who wants to finally say something to a god, that Chetney stopped taking things for granted and started pulling his weight, that Orym was convinced he needed to talk to Dorian more than ever before it was too late, that Fearne truly lost someone she cared about for real, that Laudna internalised her helplessness around what happened to Bor’Dor and Imogen decided she was against Ludinus no matter what he said now. In short just like the Mighty Nein this was the episode our chuckleducks became heroes godammit.
@@DreamEngine707 sometimes it takes a big loss to see the path more clearly. I think for the Nein it was the combination of Molly dying and them find caduceus that put them in the right track For the hells fcg was all the needed to find their paths, finding Braius a equally lost person showed them there’s more then one perspective of being lost whether it’s good or bad
@ ZodiacBandit you are exactly right but as much as people complain about how Campaign 3 “has no plot” (they are wrong it’s “ backstory npc’s discover the Big Bad’s thanos plan and then spend 86 episodes doing their best to stop him while failing upwards) this was the episode that made it clear for me what each characters arc truly was.
FCG's death was the first time i cried watching CR, I came close a few time near the end of c2, (Caleb saying to Frumpkin "You're not my cat, my cat is dead" and him visiting his parent's grave)
Death of Vax was a little crazy cause of Raven Queen and her THING. But Molly, I really took it personally, that death crushed means always when i watch this part of This episode I'm crying. But with FCG, well it was a little like Matt didn't see it throught properly and the fight was going in a verryyyyy bad direction and even Matt expression was like "shit, I am gona kill them and i don't know what to do to avoid it", and when FCG decided to sacrifice himself for Matt it was like salvation, a way that he as a DM avoid TPK and he took it. But FCG himself decided about it.
I assume that Sam's unexpected real life break from Critical Role had a lot to play in the timing of FCG's demise as well as the awkward visit to Aeor without him. Much of the story was probably planned with an intent to include FCG. He may have ultimately sacrificed himself (he was always quick to volunteer it), but I don't think it could be delayed any longer unfortunately due to real life circumstances.
@@dragoonjefy1981 absolutely that affected things but I’m sure if fcg didn’t die then aeor would’ve been pushed back and maybe the fey realm stuff would’ve happened first who knows
I think Matt mentioned the original way he was playing to write FCG out was going to be some sort of flare on Ruidus knocking him out for a unknown amount of time
One thing i wish we could see would be one of the hells having an interaction with Fcg's coin. One of the only things we after his sacrifice was when they were in aeor fighting dominox.

And “What side was she on?”)
@ZodiacBandit to Matt it’s jokes to people who love Letters it’s truth that is what F.R.I.D.A. thoughts will be as well as a huge group of critters heckling (in a loving way) Matt
Matt said in a 4SD after the death that they could search for info in aeor and potentially find out stuff. But obviously with how the world is ending the players don’t feel like they had the time to do that. Depending on how the campaign ends maybe they could do a search for Grog type episode where the remaining members of BH travel to aeor and try to uncover its mysteries which simultaneously sheds some light on our metal friend. If not then it’ll probably get relegated to a comic or something (which IMO would be disappointing)
Shame we never got to see fcg with legs. I remember them getting legs made for them while in wildemount but they just never got back to them to collect
I can't help but agree to an extent. Losing out on an entirely different side of Aeor and the god connection with FCG is something that makes me sad. Heck, FCG was actually THERE, and so was Devexian. Not only could they have found/known about tech that could have helped Bell's Hells, we might have even been able to pop one of the blue bubbles! Imagine telling an Aeorian wizard that the gods are about to perish, but it may cost the lives of everyone on Exandria. What would their perspective be? Is talking to one worth risking Ludanis getting an ally? We'll never know, unfortunately.
I feel like FCG’s missing coin could be something Matt could use/spin to be something that could tie FCG back somehow, probably not back “alive”, but perhaps maybe the coin could be a key or something to a memory orb that contains FCG’s past….but who knows 🤷🏻♀️
