Our VRF Grab Bags (GB) videos are compiled from content from our cameras as Mods and fans spot something neat while watching our cameras. In the GB you will, of course, find a variety of TRAIN content, special trains, maintenance, steam, diesels, interesting rail cars, cool paint schemes and more. You will also find fun people, city events, boats, planes, cars (sometimes going wild) and nature. Thank you for taking the time to sit back and enjoy these highlight reels that we call "Grab Bags"!
Oh my. That Paradise, PA clip was fantastic! That horn exchange was amazing and in the snow made it even better. Great stuff!
When were HHP8s running on the keystone corridor!??!?
@Trackside_Fox_and_Funtime_Fox amtrak is making them the new cabcars so it was a test run for compatability purposes.
That was cool - vintage and higher-tech. That train was awesome-looking and still rockin' the tracks!
That’s awesome seeing a hippo cab car on the train of my childhood route
Also looks like they put the SP 6 Chime back on 475, such a lovely whistle!
Goodbye Adirondack Scenic Railroad F-units. Sad 😥 to see them go due to management parking them in a spot and not securing them and the copper Thieves rapping the wiring out of them. Many volunteers hours were put into those units and mismanagement stupidity sent them to their graves.
At least they made their way too Lake Placid for a trip or two. Goodbye 👋 girls...😢😢😢
Nice lash up with the BC Rail EMDs on CN train ,saw the EMD exports come through on Roanoke cam yesterday, good catch in Paradise PA,lots of good trains in the snow!🛤🚂
The BC Rail units were GE C40-8M's.
15:20 Had an MKT hopper next to the MP...
I guess lots of people in La Grange have butterfingers or dropsy.
Between the horn/whistle exchange, the earthquake, and Packer railfans representing, it was a fabulous grab bag. Great job VR!
Steam whistle every time baby! So nice! Lagrange might not have the best drivers but they are nice people!
Love Virtual Railfan!
Big Time Horn Salute to those two people in LaGrange! That was really cool of them to pick that mess up.
I can't believe that she came back the next day and retrieved it but didn't bother to stop and pick it up. Bravo to the heroes who did!
1:57 Around 1968/69, in Belen, several trains would wait, together, on the ready tracks just short of the overpass. Then, Santa Fe went into a decline and you would only see one at a time. The creation of Amtrak meant Belen losing the passenger rail. Within two years, Belen lost nearly half of it's residents as three of the six of the hotels closed as did a number of restaurants. The merger with Burlington Northern in 1995 breathed new life into the railyard. Also, Hollywood filming 20 movies/TV shows in Belen over a decade pumped much needed money into the town as Belen had a number of run down buildings and that appealed to Hollywood.
Interesting, thank you.
9:28 before the engine came to Western Maryland. She was kept at my hometown local railway museum.
Wonderful grab bag! I think everything railway looks better in the snow!
Those meets at Paradise were amazing.
8:19 are we not gonna talk about the fact that an HHP8 is leading a train in 2024? I get it’s an NPCU but it’s still hella cool
Give it a month or 2 and they will be leading on all or almost all of the keystones. They will be put in service once the standards have been met and are ready for action.
A Penn line MARC I was on in late 2023 was using a few of their HHP-8’s still, also was using a couple of Amtrak’s old HHP-8’s (might have been this one) and also was loaned an Amtrak ACS-64. Not sure why, but maybe had something to do with the high diesel prices and shortage on the eastern seaboard then.
I agree, but my problem is that I think so many Engines are cool, lol.
2:13 CN/BC Rail C40-8 and C40-8M’s in 2024 wow
Double wow! Triple wow!!
It's always La Grange lol
Since when did Amtrak assign HHP-8s to the keystone corridor!!!??? If i knew that i would've set up camp outside!!
8:51 very impressive catch lad.
When I pulled that file into the video editor and previewed it, one of those "everything around you is tuned out" moments happened. I knew I had the cover slide, but it hard to convey the real beauty of it with a single picture. I am so glad that many here know we play with words a little, but when we say "Do not miss...", you believe us. That means the world to us. So glad you enjoyed it.
Love the old locomotives, heritage units & others
8:49 horn-off! How you doing steam train
Tooot toooot
I’m guud cya later
@2:26 Grab your wallet! Uncle Snappy (Snap-On man) just pulled in with a truck load of mechanical jewelry ! ! !
Horn battle with a steam power move in a snowstorm😅great action grab bag
That finale,Snow Shots/ Time lapse= Artistic excellence! Thank you 😇 😊! Cumberland- Gods Country-South!! Thank you 😇 😊!
I really love these videos! Theres so much rare locos and rare occasions on the cameras! Its lucky you have them so we can watch!
Wow! Great catching all the trains, especially the Heritage Units like CSXT1850 in Covington, Kentucky, an earthquake in Hesperia, California, and more, @Virtual Railfan, thank you.
Amtrak HHP-8 Runs Back On Service ?
Wow - La Grange, KY is certainly a busy place! Those two should get a thank you!
475 Wearing That Awesome SP6 Chime!
Two warbonnets on one train? That is pretty cool.
Great seeing the Lehigh Valley in the lead
BNSF 707 and 743 should both be repainted H3. Thumbs up if you guys agree?
I love it when rail fans go out in the snow to get the good shots. Hats off to them.
I guess Austell Ga is spot to see heritage units
I love seeing that Mopac still exists in railcar form❤️❤️❤️❤️
8:19 is awesome 👏
The conrail GP15 units that came through my city had dynamic brake blisters!?
You guys missed the UP western pacific heritage unit at Tucson in the southwest transportation museum! It was at about 1:11 PM or sometime like that! The day was the 6th
The earthquake in Hesperia was centered about 18 miles from there and it measured 4.1 on the Richter scale.
Love the HHP-8/Acela horns
What a beautiful, beautiful, time lapse in Cumberland. Great job V.R.
I was seeing in the Galesburg chat that a DPU had smoked itself on a BNSF train yesterday or the day before. I was hoping to see evidence of that here, but I guess it wasn't caught on camera.
If you came here from the thumbnail 8:19
Wow! Paradise really is Paradise - even in the snow. Great to see the GP15-1 at Cordele and SW1500 3443 at Burlington, thanks VRF.
I think the snow makes it even better
Hi, that is what I meant.@@rockyroller7624
A Great Meet In 8:20 😁
Love The Paradise PA The Toot Toot of the Steam Engine & Amtrak! There Just having an Engine To Engine Conversation! 😂
8:49 wow another HHP-8 being tested
I heard that was a revenue run
11:20 it looks like the crossing gates are down, but there's no train around (that can be seen). I wonder if the earthquake triggered the circuit?
Sad the former Adirondack f units are gone
At 12:23 & 12:35 those 3 old EMD locos served the Adirondack Scenic Railroad in NY for many years, I will miss them!
Fun little duel with the whistle and horn, I'll take the steam whistle ANY day!!
I don't know if that was a duel or a duet in Paradise, but whatever it was I *loved* it!!! I'm really glad that my life circumstances don't require me to speak Mongolian as I sprained my brain just reading those names (gorgeous locos though!), and as usual the beautiful ending caught at my heart. I also thought it was cool that the earthquake went on for a while. Another great one!
I had to pause and replay the Paradise, PA train horn exchange. Awesome on so many levels. What a great catch.
wondering what happeded to amtrak engin #50 havene't seen it for a long time...thanks...
So the HHP-8 cabcars have been in testing for a while, but are they in service now?
The EMD exports for Mongolia, do they have a different gauge there vs the USA standard?
Yes, but mostly because it's different from Russia and China, they don't want them moving military equipment or troops into their country.
👍 EXCELLENT 👌
THANK YOU ...
Excellent Video!
☘️🌷🇮🇳🌷☘️
Oh those F units love them ❤
That blacked out B40 could be a new addition.
Well it's official now! I'm a grab bag addict 😊❤ I'll need to enter virtual railfan rehab very soon 😮😅 I find myself craving for the latest grab bag video release hahaha 😆 Keep up the great work gang! Always a nice surprise seeing strange and funny things happening on the railways 😊❤
God bless always from Bacolod City Philippines 🇵🇭 🙏 ❤️
I think this Grab Bag is in my Top 5 Grab Bags ever. I really liked this one. Maybe it was the snow. Great job VR!
Expect the unexpected any time/any where.

7:42 I believe these units are going to Mongolia

This particular Grab Bag serves as a great explanation of why, in spite of all the crazy changes in the industry, both good and bad, trains fascinate me after all these decades.
AND THIS ONE HAD STEAM!!!!!! one thing on the railroads (-ways in the UK) that NEVER fails to please! 😀😃😄😁🙂🙃😉😊😆😅🤣😂
I don't know what was in those buckets, but I hope it was really, really expensive, to motivate learning what a tailgate is for. Thanks to the good citizens who picked up the debris.
They don't like making the Indian cry....even later in the video. Nice town
WHY DOES 475 HAVE THAT SP 6CHIME WHISTLE LIKE IN 2021-2022?!
Greeting between father and grandfather technology how do you feel it 😊😊😊
please bring back the camera at Springfield massachuetts
What are the three locomotives in the middle of the train the orange and black ones with no trucks? What are they and where are they going?
The horn exange at Paradise Pa at 8:22 was just awesome. Great video. Have a nice day 😊🌈
8:53. It's that an HHP-8 being used as an NPCU?
Beautiful❄️photos
4:13 thats my home station kinda bummed I missed the race in lol
*Nice Catches*
So much fun as usual...
Get that flatcar some Prozac, STAT!
I guess it is just me but I couldn't see the earthquake. it was reported as a 4.2. Times reported in the news as 10:53am to 4:30pm. Every outlet had a different time. Great Grab Bag.
It was really just the camera shaking from it, it would have been more obvious if something/s fell or we caught startled people.
In the earthquake you could see the camera bouncing up and down
Funny thing I was watching this live video
What are the things covering the exhaust at 0:11 on both engines and I’ve noticed them on many BNSF engines
La Grange folk are the best! 👍
What model were those three f units
In the openning, awesome war bonnets. AWESOME steam and Amtrak the classic meets the future....Penn Central too!. Great video, lots of nostalgia and info. 🚂👍😎
@virtualrailfan please see if you can find the clip of the Union Pacific intermodal that went through Chehalis on the 7th and share it on the next grab bag! The lead unit, though painted in full UP colors, still has the pulsating ditch lights from its days as a Southern Pacific unit, which I find very awesome. :-)
5:22 rodney kantorsky moment
Always nice to see Spartanburg, the least used Amtrak station in SC.
This was an especially enjoyable video. Great job!
The opening shot. To see two red warbonnets in such good condition. Fantastic!
Love those old steam trains and their whistles. Beats a diesel whistle any day.
What were those emd f units?
As mentioned elsewhere here they are ex-Adirondack Scenic.
They were stored in an "inadequately secured manner" and copper/metal scavengers pretty much ravaged them and they are on their way to LTEX (Larry's Truck and Elec.) in Ohio with a ? future.
Just something so majestic about seeing a steam loco in the snow like that!
8:50 Can someone tell me why there is an HHP8?
They’re being tested as Amtrak new cab car for keystone limited
Where are the Adirondack F units going?
Happy new year
More horns!! I jus got one.
12:35 next stop nearest scrap yard
I could smell that at, 7:30.
❤Grab Bags make my day.❤
Bellissimo video e spettacolari immagini ❤
Benvenuto e grazie mille.
Grazie molto lieto 👍
Can get enough of the folks waving while walking the tracks.
Makes my day .
Where did you see that on the video?
The slobs @2:43 who dropped all the junk from their white truck should be fined for littering. All that junk should be secured and not loose waiting to fall out. No excuse.
i lost 3 tires on my rv and 2 on my toad because of a jackwagon like that dumping his tools and nails on the road. cost me close to $900
