That first checkmate was vicious
it really works on my low rating. u just build hippo, hang out a little bit and wait for your opponent to blunder something. happens every time. dropped almost 100 rating once i started playing it (from 1050) and now got 250 back. love to see more of the hippo
Enjoying this hippo run more than any other speed run you’ve done, Eric. Bravo 👏
Sameeee
This is my favorite speed run it’s enjoyable seeing him demolish what are now strong and advanced players at this stage
Was waiting since last 3 days for this video....... Will wait for another week for part 13. Thank you Eric sir .
GM Hansen for president and hippo for vice
hippo video days are good days
You're so chill bro. Your streams are such a vibe. Keep up the amazing work.
11:00 my man was playing salsa chess.
"i want to close the position so i dont get attacked" lol
11:50 👋 lmao
I’m around the 1900-2000 level and regularly play the hippo/modern setups and I’m excited to see how this speedrun develops at the higher levels. If white knows what they are doing you can just get blown off the board rather quickly😂
yeah even at Lower rating that happens to me some lol you can get such uncomfortable positions in the hippo haha. I always want to make the damn hippo work though lol
it's really not recommended past 2000, especially in 5min or longer games, you'll need skills beyond your current rating to survive the possible positional suffocation, ofc Eric will make it seems so easy but it's really not the way. At this rating you'll face fairly decent preparation against it, and it demands a lot of skills to remaneuver correctly the pieces.
I, as a 2100 player, love to play against hippo cause I already studied some really decent setups against it and how to prepare the pawn breaks. I have a lot more trouble against prepared players on active openings. On shorter time controls its more playable
What a fucking beast! Watching a GM exchange calculation is just straight up chess porn! Love it!
Getting the guy trying to flag by just moving his pieces back and forth to rage quit made my day lol
Eric, I now only play Africa's most dangerous herbivore. Thank you, Eric.
I wonder how long this opening will last 🤔 Can it reach 2500+??
Eric the hard part is after move #10 before that it's a piece of cake! LOL
you make it look easy. Great tunes.
My man love the hippo.
And next, the classical OTB hippo Speedrun!
just makes chess look so easy
Was waiting on this yesterday... Time Management, Brahs! Why the delay lol?
On a rewatch, I understand why the delay. These past 2 episodes is Eric baked as a potato lol, so many mistakes. Still hilarious though.
spankings across the board.
it's almost like hes playing obscure stuff in hope of a challenge
Support these guys
Anyone knows the song @31:31?
I have to... never commented this fast before.
GO ERIC!!!
I know this footage is very old but I didn't know Eric followed the AFL haha
Got me surprised too, thought I misheard him say nfl or something until he said Richmond ahaha
hippo is vicious
damn how can i learn to see that far ahead like at 5:56? had to set it up to see why opponent couldn't take the knight. i guess it's only 3 or 4 moves but still it seemed like you saw it instantly. any tips for working on calculations like that? i do puzzles but idk if that really helps. also like how the guy didn't take it but then blunders in an even worse case. he probably would've taken w/ the queen anyways and been in same spot
play slower time controls to think harder.
The people who just leave when they know they lost instead of resigning....
24:44 His knight was trapped. Just move your king to c7 and then when he goes knight to a6 go king b7 and he won't have anywhere to run, winning the game.
Wouldn't the knight just end being traded? Since Knight would get to c5 which is protected by the pawn. Kc7, Na6+, Kb7, N65+, Bxc5, bxc5
@@brimmed Good point. No idea how I missed that. I guess there's no way to get to the knight then. Even if you push your own pawn on the c file, the knight will just end up on b4 anyway. I guess the best way is to just keep playing while ignoring the knight. It's stuck and therefore inactive anyway.
go eric!
Eric Eric Eric
yesssss finally!
Great
give some music
The feeling some of these players must have. They’ve worked to get to a very high rating, and then get checkmated in under 20 moves by some guy playing the hippo.
Why people at 1800-1900 rating made such beginner mistakes ? As a low rating player, i easily see those moves.
Is Eric on something?
Lmao he's on the hippo
Probably took an edible
That's just raw testicularity my brah in Christ
Why isn’t anybody using c4/f4 breaks against this?
Dont bet against richmond. They are strong af atm. Coming from an Australian
Disregard... The lost to collingwood. Fucking collingwood.
Are points refunded to opponents?
yes
Lets goooo
you didn't finish the hippo against maratchase84, disapointed.
long waietd

Eric OP
first
Who wins between Eric and Aman most of the time? I'm going to assume Eric, but have they ever played live?
@@Drang_Gei Are you just messing around? Or have they actually said that? I'd love to see them go at it. Best of 3!
@@Drang_Gei Yea. They got paired up in Titled Tuesday last year and just quickly drew the game.
