8:41 "Have you noticed a recurring theme is players don't notice this bishop at this elo?" Yes... unfortunately I have noticed it, for I am that player.
@@rakhatthenut3815 sounds like a 900 in disguise. actually had a typo in that as well, was meant to say 1150. I love the slow delivery of punishment for blunders. It's like to you give them a moment to realise their mistake and make their peace with god before executing. Ice cold.
I'm around the same rating as your opponents in this video, and I've been having a decent amount of success messing around with the hippo. It isn't always hanging a full rook like you ran into, but I noticed that people do kind of fall apart after a few moves. I thought it would be an unplayable meme opening, but it really is pretty solid (at least at my level lol) and I feel like I'm learning a lot navigating the weird positions I'm ending up in. Thanks for showing us this.
This also shows why low elo players should play longer time controls. Before instinct and board vision develop, you should, almost every move, ask yourself which squares are targeted by every one of your opponent's pieces. Then, which squares they could attack with one move. Can't do that with 3 min.
I'm currently hovering 800-900 in chess and the most that relates to these games and myself are the strengths of your bishops. I think it's quite difficult for people around this elo to understand the efficiency of those bishops and they don't check to see those diagonals.
@31:04 The Anti-Hippo. I'm not willing to say, "Okay you got me." In order to avoid the Anti-Hippo I play; 1.e4 d6 2.d4 e6 or 1.d4 e6 2.e4 d6, and then proceed with the fianchettoes and the Hippo build. I think it is important to have that center established for the Hippo to work effectively. What can you say is wrong with my approach? Am I creating a vulnerability?

Even up to 1400 people still make fundamental blunders within the first 6 moves of playing the wayward queen attack, they always lose sight of c2 often giving a solid D4 push. Honestly it's surprising how lazy and uninspired people just try their same old tricks and fail every time with no ambition to change or learn.
whats up with all the not resigning when obv losing and/or rage quitting, I juust imagine all the Levy fans sitting at their 1000 acc and being like "master said no resign, dobby play on, but when no chance anymore just close tab maybe I dont lose elo that way"
I’m 931 elo in Blitz rn and I swear to god all my opponents are quite a bit smarter. That said I was like 800 last week so I’m definitely beating a lot of them
what is it with the low energy intros and outros that eric and aman record, the guys look like they're being held at gunpoint and forced to read a script!!
Chessbrah, you're like the Road Runner of chess, leaving your opponents in the dust! Watching you play is like trying to follow a game of chess on fast forward, but somehow you make it look like a work of art. I'm convinced you have a secret chess superpower, maybe it's your ability to calculate faster than a supercomputer or your ability to teleport pieces across the board. Either way, keep the speedruns coming, they're a real hoot!
8:41 "Have you noticed a recurring theme is players don't notice this bishop at this elo?" Yes... unfortunately I have noticed it, for I am that player.
we all are that player✊
The amount of times Eric says something like "that's a free pawn" and then ends up getting the queen has me dying lol
bishops are equipped with a propriety cloaking device at this ELO
I am about 1050 and even there they still do 😔
@@neko6803 you said it like 1050 is any different from 900-1000. 'Even there', sure buddy

Unbelievable! 😂
Love the hippo series, so fun to watch all these blunders.

Powerfully odd question

I noticed it too. Dude taking 10 seconds to capture a blundered queen is just brutal.
I've been playing this opening and it's has improved my accuracy from like low 50s to mid 70s thank you Eric and Aman love the content 👊

"This knight... Buddy's gonna have some knightmares"
"Some people like being a pawn" up got me
the bishop is a sniper in this opening!
the first game was the definition of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes"
Dude you honestly make my day every single video. You are hilarious 4:09 😂😂
Loving this series. Thank you so much.
I have been waiting for this video. Thank you Hippo
If Eric decides to never settle down with a fine lass and have a thruple of kids, I can see him being a cool chess uncle in like 30 years.
Ben Hansgold?
Not sure you can stick the adjective "cool" in front of the words "chess" and "uncle"
You don't become an uncle by having kids of your own... 🤔
@@jackbicknell4711 uncles can be cool, chess however…

A guy played a similar setup against danya on his speedrun and got murdered lmaooo
because danya's a GM lmao
“Did I trap your queen,Richard?Where’s that bishop going?” 😂that got me laughing!
Tried this opening at 1600/1700 just after watching the first video and got smoked a few times lol
“Ankit, would you like to taste my berries? No? Ok, i had to ask. The answer is no”😂😂😂 this guy is so funny

thank you so much for this Eric!!!
I love the thumbnail
I'm eating 2000s for breakfast with this opening! Thank you uncle eric

the first Match is a yet another proof why Those who play the Wayward have no idea how to actually play chess.

that game against godwin was so rough watching him lose everything. Nice pun btw, "knightmare". 😆
Instead "he disconnected" you need to say "he broke his phone"" lol
The reaction when opponent blunders is priceless
I'm trying to do this and I'm not anywhere near as good lol. It is fun though. Those snipers are sneaky.
More like "How to hang your pieces, special edition "how to hang your rooks", part 2"
Love this series!
aman has been saying it since his fianchetto speedrun, low elo players can see more than 3-4 spaces lmao
Where do you find these 900's? 700's are much stronger.
Love the background music, omg!
Where are these players when I try the hippo? lol
Can some1 give me link to the stream of hippo speedrun 🙏
Where do u get these ppl eric

those bishops areinvisible at this elo. i play hippo lots at the moment just because of this over powered fact.
30:50.why he didnot eat with pawn ??
12:00 - isn't the queen trapped with h6 g5?
I blame gotham for people at this elo never resigning
Dude also Aman said to never resign in the habits series 😂
Oh no, my Rook. lmao
There were a lot of abandonment brahs in the pool today
Played the opening in 20+ games and not one opponent left any piece hanging 😭
I love this series
Nice going Eric
I love playing hippo in blitz
opponents playing the Botez. respect
Respect the Hippo.
Disconnecting instead of pushing the abandon button is rude, vulgar and in Lichess they don't give you extra points to compensate for that
No brain cells speedrun
bro why was this so funny
The music is nice if anyone could provide the list would be very grateful 👍
I regularly punt vs fiancettoed bishops and wonder why I keep missing that. Longest distance to the dangerous piece I guess?
Salty sesh with at least 3, low-T abandonments. Nice.
